When I first got on here, I did a little exploring. Quickly flipping through all of the different magic items to give me ideas on a frame of reference for what is too powerful or just right. It's an amazing first hand experience, but when I switched over to the monster tab to look for my most favorite monster, the displacer beast, I couldn't find it. Please don't neglect this wonderful creature (and others that may have not made it in the app yet) so that I can use this app to effectively terrify my players.

Except if WOTC is supposedly working with the developers, then their copyright content should be available. There truly won't be any point in using these tools if there will be missing content.
I hope they do allow them to, but for now They're going by The OGL1.0A I believe.

As far as I know Both fantasy grounds and Roll20 are now "supported by WOTC" but they still have to abide by the document above. I don't see any reason why this would be different. However, I HOPE i'm wrong!

If you look at the image for the aberration category, it's a beholder, yet the beholder is not on the list. So... I would assume if they can use the image related to the monster, they should be able to use the monster as well?
The SRD is the basis of Phase 1. That's free material available to everyone, but does not include the exclusive to D&D monsters such as Beholders and Mind Flayers (there are more, but those are two of my favs). I high suspect Phase 2 will include subscription fees or pay once access to the missing spells, items, and monsters as well as full rules, races, classes, etc. For now this D&DB is just a way of browsing the SRD. It is still incredibly useful if somewhat limited.
Could this be an effect of the SRD content being free, and the content Wizards of the Coast keeps out of the SRD being behind a pay-wall - just like with the SRD (you can download it and even print it out if you want, no charge) and the Monster Manual (costs money, has the "missing" beholder, mind flayer, displacer beast, slaad, kuo-toa, and so on)?

I mean if they made all content free, how would they continue to make money? I this is why they have the additional purchases on all the other platforms. I'd say, AaronofBarbaria is correct, they have to promote their content in order to keep providing it. So, while we'd like it all to be free, it just isn't something i see happening in the nearby future. Afterall, we want WOTC to continue to produce quality work right? :D so we have to give them that $$ for the good stuff.

I tend to agree here. I saw the missing monsters quickly as well, and I figured it was just because this was beta, and they weren't going to add every single monster right off the bat. But if it's actually a licensing thing, then that also makes sense. While I'd hope that WOTC wouldn't ask us to pay for the additional information (again, for most of us who bought the books already), it does make sense for them to sell it. Otherwise anyone with internet access could have free reign of all the information in those books without having paid for them. I just hope it's not going to be subscription based.
Ehhh...but I already bought the books...so if I have to repurchase all the materials, I'll just forget beyond even exists. I hope they have a way to get the materials you've already bought...but I kinda doubt it.
If it is an inexpensive subscription, that would work. Much of the "free" information displayed currently in DnDB is already all over the web. This may be a sleek and nice way to display the content, and as such will draw people in, but it isn't alone. If it becomes subscription only with a high price, it will have to offer a lot more than just "content" to justify the monthly expense to most people, imo.

Beholder was the first monster I searched for and it is missing as well.

the Displacer beast is Copyright material and can not be listed on here. Sorry man, but WOTC has its rules.
The beholder also is copyrighted.

You can get them on roll20.net and fantasy grounds, But you have to rebuy them https://marketplace.roll20.net/browse/bundle/3/monster-manual/#h-Monster Manual
I imagine that's how they will work here as they didn't point codes in the book so they don't know if you bought the book or not.

Check out my D&D blog: www.wellmetrpg.com
It most certainly will be subscription based just as D&D Insider was.
