I know this is a minor use request, and there are workarounds, so I don't expect it to happen anytime soon, but is there a way to add a counter of some kind for Arcane Ward? I get that you can just get around it by adding temporary hit points, but it can be easy to lose track of if you're also dealing with temp hp (especially if you use false life), or you can custom create a creature to add to the Misc Extras section, but it would be nice to have the Arcane Ward in at minimum in the Features section, if not also in the Other Actions section.
Unless this is coming in an update around the time that Tasha's is released, Seconded!

You could do it as homebrew one of two ways, Either as a feat, or by making a homebrew copy of the Abjurer.
As a feat, simply make an Action that has “limited uses” to represent the shield’s HP. You would need to set it as “Reset Type” = Special; and a limited use at no level for Int mod, and then 19 more “limited uses” that add +2 each for levels 2-20.
As part of the class feature, add a second action to the feature. The original action would be “Activate Arcane Ward” and track the 1ce/LR criteria like it already does, and the other would be “Arcane Ward HP” and use “limited Uses” to track the actual HP the same as the feat explained above.
it would be nice to have the Arcane Ward in at minimum in the Features section, if not also in the Other Actions section.
I explained a way to do what exactly what you requested.
Since DDB hasn’t changed it because of any of the last bajillian requests for the exact same thing over the past 3+ years, I highly doubt that they will. I figured I would tell you how to do it yourself instead of leaving you swingin’ in the breeze. Lemme try again since you seem to not have understood:
Create Homebrew Subclass using “Abjurer as template
Edit the Arcane Ward Feature.
Edit the existing action so the name no reads “Activate Arcane Ward“
Edit the “snippet” for the action by deleting the following ”The ward has {{(classlevel*2)+modifier:int#unsigned}} max HP, and takes damage instead of you until it reaches 0 HP. Whenever you cast an abjuration spell of 1st level or higher, the ward regains HP equal to twice the level of the spell.”
SAVE.
Add a second action to that feature using the following information:
Name: Arcane Ward HP Counter
Activation Type: No Action
Reset Type: Other
Snippet: “The ward has {{(classlevel*2)+modifier:int#unsigned}} max HP, and takes damage instead of you until it reaches 0 HP. Whenever you cast an abjuration spell of 1st level or higher, the ward regains HP equal to twice the level of the spell.”
SAVE
Re-edit the new action and scroll to the bottom and you will now se an new section labeled “Limited Use.”
Click “ADD LIMITED USE DATA”
Input the following information:
Number of Uses: 4
Operator: + (Addition)
Stat Modifier: Int
Level: 2
SAVE
You will immediately be presented with a blank Limited Use entry. Input the following information:
Number of Uses: 6
Operator: + (Addition)
Stat Modifier: Int
Level: 3
SAVE
You will immediately be presented with a blank Limited Use entry. Input the following information:
Number of Uses: 8
Operator: + (Addition)
Stat Modifier: Int
Level: 4
SAVE
Keep following that pattern a total of 19 times (2nd - 20th levels) until your last one looks like this:
Number of Uses: 40
Operator: + (Addition)
Stat Modifier: Int
Level: 20
SAVE
You will immediately be presented with a blank Limited Use entry. Click “cancel,” and you will be redirected to the action again. SAVE
Then, go to the main section for your new homebrew, adjust the name to “School of Abjuration (adjusted)” so you will recognize it.
Copy/Paste the description from the original to fill the “Short Description” and “Description” fields for your homebrewed subclass.
Click the main “SAVE CHANGES” button under “Basic Information.”
Then, check your handiwork at following my instructions on a character sheet. It should look like this:
My tone was intended as helpful, light hearted, and snarky. It was not my intention to be taken otherwise. I am not upset. Do what you want, it’s your Character Sheet. I did not miss your point, however I believe you may have missed mine.
Your request for the feature is far from the first, folks have been pointing it out for more than three years. Either DDB has decided not to fulfill the requests, or WotC (the company that actually publishes D&D) has told them not to implement the change. Either DDB adding that action as I explained would violate their contract with WotC, or maybe something else is preventing it. I honestly don’t know. What I do know is that I have publicly explained that homebrew workaround more than once, and if I can do it, so could DDB. They have not. 🤷♂️
My initial explanation was rushed and working purely from memory of the homebrewer. Sorry for the confusion. The second set of instructions to implement the Ward the way I listed for the subclass would basically be the same instructions for the feat. By explaining one, I explained both. I chose to explain it via subclass since that is cleaner as it keeps things better organized, and doesn’t require a feat being clunkilly added on when the subclass would be a permanent thing for you and your friends to use.
You stated that you have a workaround monster that you find less than ideal. You specifically mentioned wishing that it was listed under both Features, and Actions. That homebrewed subclass workaround I described would place both directly attached to the specific subclass feature to which it applies, and under the specific Actions section you requested by name.
The “adjusted” version of that subclass that I made to add to that character sheet I linked above took approximately 8 minutes to create. And that was using my phone. On an actual computer it would probably have been faster. It honestly took longer to type the instructions than it did to create the homebrew. In fact, your reply to my post most likely took longer to write than the homebrew would have taken to create.
So while I am not upset. Do what you want, it’s your Character Sheet. What I am is confused:
Since you have been informed that you will likely not see any activity from DDB on that for a very long time if at all;
and since you could have exactly what you want in as little as 8 minutes;
and since you have received details instructions on exactly how to achieve that goal;
why not?
As I said, do it however you want to, it’s you character sheet. I’m just curious.
Wow. Just..wow. I have never seen someone so angry and frustrated that their request was so thoughtfully and helpfully answered. Anyway. Thanks for the tutorial. I will use this.

According to the most recent Dev Update,* they will be starting work to accommodate “Class Specific Special Rules and Exceptions“ sometime next quarter. There may actually be an official fix for this (maybe, possibly) at some point in the next 6-12 months (ish, give or take), so keep your eye out for it.

I'm not sure you're still around. But do you know of a way to make this counter to be set to be the same as the maximum HP of a character, or set the counter to start from 0? (I'm trying to make a class feature for a homebrew) Thanks in advance for any input.

I’m still around. Sorry, no. As far as I know there’s no way to do that because there’s no way of knowing in advance what their Max HP will be, and no way of linking them directly. And there’s no way of making a limitless counter that counts up. Sorry.

Amit occurred to me after thinking about it is that, while you can’t predict how many HP a character will have at any given level because you don’t know: if they will roll for HP or take the average, or what their Con modifier will be at any given level, you do know how many Hit Dice they will have at any given level, at least from that one class. So what you could do is simply set it to the average of their Hit Dice, so for example, a Wizard has a d6 Hit Die, and the average of a d6 is 3.5, rounded down to 3. So you could set your number to 3/class level for a Wis, and it would at least be a progression based sortakinda on their health. Sorry, that’s the best I can offer you.

I saw someone make a request.
I knew from first hand experience that the request would go completely ignored by the people of whom the request was made.
I felt bad for a stranger and stopped to lend a hand despite the fact that I was busy and in a rush.
It was made clear that the instructions I gave were ambiguous.
I left clearer instructions.
I was informed that my tone was taken to be offensive.
I apologized for my tone.
Instead of any thanks, or even just a general acknowledgment, I have received nothing but scorn and condescension for my troubles.
Look to your own tone.
I don’t often have cause to say this, but I regret trying to help.
