Most of the non-animated dice are "just recolored" basic die sets. Every last one of the metal dice is a basic recolor of the same skin, as one example. Some folks just like blue more than red, and now they have that option if they're a subscriber.

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy....
Also I think its kinda.....just ok I guess? Like blue is fine and all but why not just let you pick the color on the die of healing? Why release it as "new" die when its just a recoloring of another one?
I think I noted in one of the recent surveys that the rewards for subs were pretty meh, and certainly not why I sub. It's a nice little extra though.
Fair enough then if its been brought up....I just thought it might be mentioned more but maybe I am the only one disappointed which if so I can just forget about it.

I mean you're totally right that it's lame, but I feel like it's such an obvious attempt to do very little work for a bigger pay off that I can just roll my eyes at it and move on.

So yes, if you wanted to complicate a freebie, you could have subscribers "pick their potion"; but red colored healing and blue colored heroism potions are reflective, so to speak, of the colors of those potions as described in the DMG. I imagine you'll see a lot of dice re-skins in the free dice department. I'm hoping October is some sort of bone snapping die, which will be like the pulpy bloody dice from a while back, reskinned black and white with a snapping instead of splatty sound.

For me at least I would prefer they mix up what they hand out each month....I don't even use the die so getting 10 different copies of the same die is pretty much like getting nothing.
I would love if they started to make their own magic items or character portraits though! Especially if they commissioned DDB users who were already artists to make portraits.
That's actually a fantastic example of why DDB's kinda screwed on this one, Optimus. I don't ever use character portraits anymore save as a strictly temporary placeholder; I upload my own or leave it blank rather than use one of DDB's small handful of pregen characters. And I'd be downright annoyed at magic items; I can do those myself without any worry, homebrewing magic items is easy. Sheet shinies I can't do myself, and at least dice do things when you push the button.
Everybody has different things they'd prioritize, and nobody will ever agree on what to do first. Remember all the kerfuffle with people going "why are you wasting time on bags? Who needs to know where on their character something is? Just put everything in Equipment and assume the character finds a place for it!"?

Fair but why not experiment with different stuff?
You might find something else people would be willing to pay for.
I personally prefer to not use any of the newer ones. I use the “old school” dice that were only available to subscribers during the alpha test phase. Those are already too slow for my preference, anything more animated is slower. Frankly, I don’t want my D&D character sheet flashing and sparkling at me. As a DM I prefer players not use any animated frames either. If I have to go onto someone’s sheet for any reason and that darned thing starts sparkling at me when I don’t expect it it gives me a darned headache. The more animated stuff gets the less it feels like D&D to me and just starts feeling like a video game. (If I wanted to play a video game I wouldn’t be playing D&D. 🤷♂️)
I used the "old school ones" and now the gravestone ones. For me it is also readability as my eyesight without glasses is quite bad and I can read those perfectly fine without them.
The gravestone ones also have that feeling of weight to them :) and the number lights up after the roll making it even easier to read.
For all the dice I would love for them to roll abit faster or let us chose the animation speed. They often land on something I need to klick next or are hidden under the floating dice results on the rest. So all in all it slows down the gsme when you have to roll more than once in a row.
I like that they do different things each month and also like the animated portrait frames.
But as some already said for free its cool stuff as I would be subscribed either way.

This is something I don't care for about the dice either. It's like I think they should code the dice to travel along the sheet to like the character portrait area, like treat the sheet as dice tower for the animation but have them land and resolve on a part of the sheet that isn't necessary for play.

Is it just me or is the subscriber die (Dice of Heroism) this month just the Dice of Healing recolored to blue?
Yes.
And?
