Im a new DM and my player has a Druid Circle of Stars, and he wants to use this in a way that im not prepared.
He says that this feature from Tasha will modify the original "Find Familiar Spell", and he will not use the stats of a bat, for example. He says that this features sumon a fey, not a bat of type fey.
So, im confused.
He is wrong?
PS. He wants to use Pixies 1/4 AC as the familiar, because is the lowest fay he find out.
No. He is wrong. He can expend one use of wildshape to cast the spell find familiar without the components. He can still only summon the creatures listed in the spell description. No pixies. It says in the description that they are ‘fey spirits’ but this is just because they are summoned and then disappear when they get to 0 hit points or the time is up.
It also specifies "Fey" because that's an additional limit on the original Find Familiar, which allows your familiar to be of type Celestial, Fey, or Fiend.

You gain the service of a familiar, a spirit that takes an animal form you choose: bat, cat, crab, frog (toad), hawk, lizard, octopus, owl, poisonous snake, fish (quipper), rat, raven, sea horse, spider, or weasel. Appearing in an unoccupied space within range, the familiar has the statistics of the chosen form, though it is a celestial, fey, or fiend (your choice) instead of a beast.
Wild Companion says that it is always fey instead of celestial or fiend.
So this is what Wild Companion / Find Familiar does in actuality:
