I got access and got a code a week or so. I cant post any pictures of it because of the TOS but it looks really cool and works great already. Going to take a while to find all the tools and get used ot them.
@KyProRen ... you did not have to click the link that's on you and not Xalthu at all. The end of Fall is still over a month away its actually marked on the calendar you might want to consult one some time. As for Xalthu reminding that he does not work for WotC and why he was reminding you gently i might add that users should be respectful to each other. I think he was a lot more polite than i am. It has been a longish day for me and i am not feeling polite tonight. You are posts scream of rudeness and entitlement. It is not any more attractive than me being a raging B!@&* right now.
Well first and foremost this is rather rude of you, secondly the closed beta for Sigil has already begun. It started just after the official release of the PHB.
A select number of accounts that signed up for the closed beta, meaning it’s nothing more than a private playtest to get feedback on the functionality and features that might need improvement, got trial keys and a download link after signing and agreeing to a type of NDA( non disclosure agreement) that prevents the trial user from talking about anything that has to do with the beta.
We probably won’t see and open beta till march after the MM is released and worst case a full alpha release ( multiple platform versions ) till possibly 2026.
So with all due respect, I think you should be a bit more careful with posting, and realize that if constantly posting the same links that only direct one to the sign-up page of the trial does nothing to address the question.
If a person has no clue, then ether advise the other to send a message to a Mod or Admin for further information, or simply state they don’t know.
The only thing the "NDA" and the email i got with the codes mentions, is that youre not allowed to post any images or visual media of the beta. Im pretty sure we are allowed to talk about features and other things in it.
Quote from email:
"We're still in development, so you're seeing things that aren't ready for a wide audience yet. We need your help keeping Project Sigil confidential. By playtesting, you—and any friends you invite—agree not to capture or share any visual media, including screenshots, videos, or livestreams. After all, we'd hate to ruin the surprise! The full terms and conditions are below."
It's interesting because the signup page doesn't indicate any chance of getting a code - it says you'll get one - yet there are people with codes for over a week now...and others (myself included) that haven't heard anything at all. It's possible they're doing it in stages...but it seems odd to me.

There's plenty of customization in the VTT already. For now, you can mostly just play with the premade one-shot that is already there. It really looks like adding costum campaigns and building maps will be pretty easy and straightforward, kinda like Game Master Engine on Steam.
Wonder if voice chat channels will be available for when a session is running so players and DM’s can live chat on the app, or have to seek a 3rd party service, other than possibly text?
Experience with other games is that none of them have the time and expertise to write a good voice chat, so even if there's an integrated voice chat, you'll want to use a third party service.

How easy is it to add a homebrew monster or create a custom map? Kinda curious there.

The VTT seems tied to the DnDbeyong database, so costum monsters seems easy to add from your own homebrew list. the only problem is that you probably won't be able to add custom minis and have to choose an existing one. You can't build maps or change existing one too much just yet, but it looks like it will be pretty easy in the future, with a library of different assets you can put down to build a map. Right now you can move some things around, put down fire and some other elements
For what it is worth, I just listened to this video from someone who got into the alpha to playtest it, and he seems to be saying that the fall playtest may be pushed back due to not being quite ready yet. Here is the timestamped part of the video https://youtu.be/zEhu77Zz91w?t=65. I did send in a request for clarification about 2 weeks ago, but would be nice to see them verify this.
There's still most of a month left, and even if they don't make it, failing to meet a goal is not necessarily a lie. Software development is not exactly a simple endeavor, projects fall behind.
It is a CLOSED beta. You not being invited doesn't make it a lie.
It's a closed Beta...with a form that uses language of certainty that if you apply,.you will get the invites.
That said, part of the issue may be that they've used idiosyncratic American terminology. Despite being fairly fluent in American parlance, I was not aware until this thread that Americans consider fall to end on winter solstice. For me in Britain (and I daresay in other countries too), autumn ends in five days, and winter begins the day after. We actually have winter months, spring months, summer months and autumn months.
When speaking to international audiences, it would be better if they used more explicit and clear terminology. For example, if they intended a loose timeframe, they could have said before the end of the year, which we would have understood quite easily. Instead, many people have been expecting it to be out and playing by the end of this month.

Building on the above, they never said you will immediately get the invites. Nor did they say that everyone would get access in the fall - only that they would start the beta in the fall.
Staggered rollout of beta invites is industry standard. Part of beta testing is trying to see if your system can take the stress of all the users - which means finding the breaking point. To do that, companies need to slowly increase the number of players to see when the metaphorical camel’s back starts to break so it can be reinforced and pushed further. If you go zero to everyone, you are likely to break the system quickly, without learning where that breaking point actually was.
Wizards did not lie or mislead people - they did exactly what they said they would, exactly in accordance with how thing of this nature are typically tested.
Now, could they have been a little more clear that this was not an instant rollout? Perhaps - after all, by this point they really should know a significant element of their player base has the volume, manners, patience, and entitlement of Veruca Salt.

Honestly, they’ve probably just thrown up their hands and decided since there’s no pleasing or reasoning with the hostile portion of the audience they just won’t bother. By most impartial and reliable accounts the 2024 rollout is going well regardless.

Actually, fall in America falls on the equinox of Aug. 22nd
Acshually, we weren't discussing when fall started, but when it ended. It also begins at 22 September (autumnal equinox) going by the astronomical season which is what people were discussing in the thread, 1 September going by the meteorological season which is what people in Britain call the start of Autumn (often translated to fall). There's also a third solar season which starts 1 August, which no one seems to have talked about.
and yes the closed beta is already underway. Only a handful of people that signed up for the closed beta have gotten emails about it, and are limited in the ability to discuss it.
Yes, and by giving the impression to some audiences that it would extended to them by 30th November, it's caused frustration.
( we know WotC will keep a tight lid on information about it until they want the info released)
The fact that so little is being said is a testament to that fact, and a more general public beta test may well be coming after the holidays.
Maybe. That's not the point - the language used lead some to believe in good faith that they'd be given an invitation before 30th November. Even more problematic is that even taking the astronomical meaning of the word fall, they were told they'd get invitations before the holidays. I'm hoping it's a bit of carelessness with respect to the language regarding fall rather than a delay or, worse, them changing their minds.

“When it begins” can be “immediately when it begins” or “after it begins.” Both are acceptable readings of the phrasing. Clearly Wizards did not mean the “immediately” (or they did originally, but were so overwhelmed with signups that they had to change their plan - also very, very common in software testing).
As I said, they could have communicated better - there is some ambiguity in how they wrote their message and they have a player base that loved conspiracies and grinding axes. I don’t really see why it is a big deal - folks will get their keys eventually and a slow rollout is going to result in a better final product and better experience when folks finally do get beta keys.
Call me old fashioned, but I would rather wait a few weeks or months and have something be done right than get upset and try and take to the forums to spin ambiguous writing into some kind of “they lied!” conspiracy.
I received my beta invite as well. For obvious reasons I won't be saying much more than this until the NDA is lifted, but I've been working with one of my regular groups to get a one-shot in the books when Turkey Day is less of a barrier.
