It is not meant to capture all the nuances of real life, this is very true. However, it is a setting by its nature traditionally less constrained by such nuances rather than more constrained.
More flexibility is less constrained by the nuances of real life, not more constrained by them.
Other than that, I am not sure what you are responding to here? Perhaps I misunderstood, but you seemed to be making the argument that someone who is spending the entire day studying (justifying +2 int) would have no time left for working out (+1 str). However, again, that implies that the background should only give the +2 int total, which is not the case. In fact, RAW, someone with a Guard background can have +2 int, +1 str for background stat mods.
So not really sure where you are coming from here?
You have misunderstood because that was, in fact, not the argument I was making. Bafflingly, the exact opposite of that understood argument was used by me when I referenced myself in my sarcastic response. You are creating from that an entirely separate argument that you are hoping that I take up and defend. What is that practice generally called in argumentation?
Maybe this is some supporting evidence that it is not productive to try attacking someone's fairly obvious joke as though it was some serious, intentional argument ready to be defended in a battle of internet wits. The words are right in front of you however, and if what serious arguments I had offered are not enough for you to gain understanding, then, simply put, I do not have confidence that I have the competency necessary to deliver you an argument that you are capable of understanding. Or perhaps you really just wanted to have that argument and were simply using my post as a convenient springboard? Either way, I decline to defend arguments that are not mine, so I recommend you find someone else to spar with.
Stat increases from backgrounds make perfect sense. A person who spent their life smashing rocks with a hammer is going to be a lot stronger than the person who spent their life in books.
No, it doesn't.
My Warlock was part of a mercenary band a Sell sword, his bacground was Soldier, and due to his RACE, he had the needed +2 CHA for a Warlock
Now if i wanna keep my character the same way, He's suddenly with a +2STR/DEX and no CHA bonus.
Making Backgrounds the Ability bonus origin, makes little sens, They simply moved the AS bonus from race to Background, making it even less Customisable, evne tho they constantly are about "customisation and representation"...
Yes you can have a custom background, IF YOUR DM ALLOWS IT, people seem to forget that NOT all DM/tables are made equal..., and if you have to depend on your DM's goodwill, then 50% of the time your are screwed, i've seen people been banned cause "the ranger is too OP at lvl 2 with its Hunter's mark!!"

"Normality is but an Illusion, Whats normal to the Spider, is only madness for the Fly"
So just take a different background and spin it as a mercenary. Savage Attacker is meh on a Warlock, so why not just pick something like Charlatan, Noble, Wayfarer, etc. and either spin that into the backstory you want or just ignore the connotations and just use the stats from it?
You could have conversations with your DM requesting that grace, change your character to the appropriate mechanical needs and just call it a day, or you can just continue playing 2014 rules. Three fine options.

I would be genuinely surprised to find a DM who makes you convert your 2014 warlock to 2024 mid-campaign. It would be so disruptive compared to just finishing the campaign with the 2014 PHB characters. But from what you're describing it sounds like you're beset by a fickle, tyrannical DM, so maybe you just need to find a new group?
Comparing 2014 PHB to 2024 PHB, the claim that moving ability score increases from species to background somehow makes characters less customizable falls flat. In 2014 the ASIs were proscribed with no ability to customize at all. You were stuck with the ability score increases proscribed by stereotypes in 2014, while in 2024 you get to use the included backgrounds to customize any species to play the class you want. Just assign your standard array (or point buy or rolled) stats in whatever way you feel best accentuates what you're going for.
I'm a little curious about why you felt the need to capitalize "race." It's a weird thing to be insistent about. Switching to "species" when we're talking about these make-believe fantasy peoples isn't an imposition, after all. I rather like that we get to jettison a bunch of real-world baggage from our fun-time escapism.
