By chance has something like this been implemented yet? I know this was on the roadmap but I am unable to access the roadmap now since it is being moved and I don't know if something like this was added. Do I still need to use the workaround in the meantime?
So, as people can see this has been ongoing since 2018, my $2.99 monthly sure hasn’t gotten me any results or response. Great job! Still end up just writing it down on a piece of paper like old times, totally negating what this app is supposed to do. Money well wasted
I have homebrewed an additional spell slot... through a feat that grants an action that allows you to cast an extra spell at the level the spell slot is for, and refreshes on a long rest. Again, not ideal, but I *functionally* created an additional spell slot.
Make it public and share it then, because you're the only one on this site who has claimed to be able to do it.
*edit* It seems when asked to put their money where their mouth is, the conversation ended. The point still stands, these options should be available and accessible, but they aren't. Good talk.
Actually, if the programmed it to mimic the Boon exactly then they cannot publish it because that would be copyright infringement/plagiarism and would be rejected by the moderators.
I have functionally added a spell slot through a feat as well, but not bothered to publish it because I hope to not need it forever. But, if you are interested:
Create feat from scratch named “Boon of High Magic”
Add the following to both the snippet and the description and SAVE.
You gain one 9th-level spell slot, provided that you already have one.
Add a “Spell Action” to the feat called “Cast 9th level Spell”
Activation Type: Special
Reset Type: Long Rest
Add the same description as above to the snippet (you can skip the description here)
SAVE
Then go in and re-edit the action to add a “Limited Use” of 1. Then simply re-save the Action, re-save the entire feat. And done.
I hope that helped.
Sorry for the notification probably, Sposta.
But as a reminder for everyone: here is how you can functionally create an additional spell slot, and be able to track it in your sheet using the app. We have the technology. This was already covered and dead in this thread, so it'd be nice if people stopped bringing this up.

It's ridiculous to say to stop bringing up a feature that we want to have, and that would make this platform better just because a work around exists. I have used that method of tracking an additional spell slot, and it works. But it would be even better to have it as an actual spell slot instead of in a different location on your sheet.
Hi Devan, I am aware of the workaround and I was not bringing that up but I hope it helps someone else looking at the thread. It was official on the roadmap that this would become a feature and I would like to minimize the amount of workarounds used so my players have a more friendly interface. I was just asking if there was any update on the official feature as the roadmap is no longer active.
I am here 3 years as well. I have been paying for a master subscription and I could care less about the dice skins DDB seems to be focusing on. Is there a chance that this feature would ever be implemented? If the answer is no, then at least tell us that. The silence is infuriating.
I am here several years later, trying to homebrew a magic item that grants additional spell slots, and havent found any way to do so.
No magic item grants additional spell slots, so you wouldn't be able to even grant it from an item anyway. What you *could* do instead as a workaround is give the Item a charge like a Wand of Magic Missile for example, and give it the description "You may spend a charge of this item to cast any of your spells of X level or lower as though you spent a spell slot." or something to that effect.

Just as D&D Beyond doesn't give dates or timelines because it only leads to disappointment when priorities and etas shift around, they also don't flat out take possibilities off the table for similar reasons. There is always the possibility such a feature may be added; for example the Generic Features System is something that the team is very excited about and will hopefully support epic boons. One such boon I believe gives you an additional 9th level spell slot, so there's a possibility that you may be able to add spell slots through the GFS. This is not a guarantee of any sorts, just a possibility.
As mentioned, there are work arounds available in the interim,
I appreciate that folks at DDB are working hard to get features for us. I have purchased most of the books released and will continue to support them because in spite of my problems with it, this is the best digital toolset for 5e.
The features released over the last year or so seem incremental to me and have not added to my ease of use of the product. For example, I have not used any of the inventory upgrades which they have done because it really doesn't change how my players play the game. The two features I have been waiting for since release are 1) Custom Classes and 2) Customizable spell slots and they have consistently deprioritized these features over what feels to me are not very impactful features.
We all know D&D 5.5 is around the corner and if they are going to slow roll releases until then, the least they can do is to tell us so.

This thread. literally has already explained... how to do customized spell slots. They just take the form of charges via either Actions under feats, or item charges via items.
as for custom classes, that's probably not going to happen because *literally infinite possibilities* exist with making homebrew classes that cannot possibly all be accounted for and mechanically codified. you have to make do with subclasses. and, as a tangent to that... *I literally* don't see what other classes can even be added to 5e because most of the niches are filled, and those that aren't can be filled with subclasses instead. But that's not the point of this thread, and so I digress.

It's really unfortunate that I'm not the only one salty about them still not implementing mechanics from the core book as they should exist, so we have to rely on these bootleg workarounds.
It's also probable that there will be additional modifiers added as part of that implementation, that will do what you want here.
It's been almost a year now and the "General Features System" has come and gone. Please enable homebrew or otherwise to make additional spell slots as they are a part of the core Dungeon Masters Guide. It's a little ridiculous that development mapping has dice skins ahead of actual mechanics from one of the main books.
Spent about a 1000 bucks on this app…and I’m only one of 1000’s who have. I think you can afford to put in some lines of code. Do the thing this thread is asking for please.
Playing a Wizard, I was granted an additional first level spell. and since this hasn't gone anywhere. I just assume every morning that I cast Mage Armor.

I do still wish that this worked in the way that you wanted to... where actual spell slots would just appear.
Very much agree...
