That’s basically just the same thing we already have. If that’s all it’s gonna be, they might as well not bother. The whole point of a Psionicist is to have a completely different mechanic.
There should definitely be a Psionic Class, full class, without spellcasting as their key ability.
They could have psi points. I don't like the psi dice mechanic, but everyone seems to disagree with me, so it would likely have that as well.
Wanna make another bet? I’ll bet you a weak of Homebrew scutwork that if you give the PsiDie as it exists a chance for, like, 1 adventure (not a whole campaign, just an adventure), that you will realize it doesn’t suck. Take a character from level 3 to say, level 6, just enough to get a taste of both tiers. If it hasn’t grown on you by the end of it, you can dump a whack-ton of homebrew you don’t feel like making and I will figure it all out to save you the work.
I don't want to make a bet, I'm fine making homebrew around a mechanic I don't like, and still would like to participate in the homebrew you have. I will probably like the mechanic more than before if I do try it out, but I can't really playtest it right now. I don't have any games that I would like to alter in the way of adding UA like this, so I'll just take your word that I'll like it more.
No betting on opinions, that's not something you can have a control group on.

I was thinking more of going back to a more AD&D psi pool. Where you have a certain number of points to use, abilities take a certain number of points to activate and in some cases points to maintain. Every time you use the ability you would check off the appropriate number of boxes, like the spell slot boxes. That's what I was meaning. Not using it like checking spell slots for using psionic like spells.

But it’s the same thing though. Just like Spell Points or Ki.
I'm not sure what you mean that it's figured out. There's still no psionic class and a bunch of subclasses are getting archived. So I'm confused about what content has been figured out? Who knows, the updated UA content may go the way of the cuckoo too. Anyways, I wast just throwing out ideas of how to make a full psionic class. I know that there's a current system for the subclasses, I'm just not confidant that it will stick around.
If WotC stops trying to fit the square block into the round hole, they could totally make it a class.
What I mean by that is they want to make psionics fit into the magic casting formula. Spells, spell slots, the works. If they stopped trying to make psionic abilities spells, and get away from treating it as a caster and let it be it's own thing, they will probably have an easier time getting it to work.

If this is true, then they should flush psions all together. We do not need another magic system so people can be different.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.

Yeah, what do you mean? Psions does not fit into spellcasting, and should not be forced that way.

Yeah, what do you mean? Psions does not fit into spellcasting, and should not be forced that way.
They fit nicely into ki however. Psions do not need another system. The fact is, you all WANT another system, you do not NEED another system. Half of you will never be happy regardless of what WotC does.

You’re right, I don’t “need” another system. But I am a customer willing to pay for one just like many others. WotC wants our money. One would think it would be a mutually beneficial arrangement.

They literally just made a new mechanic with the PsiDice. Don't say "They don't need a new system for it", because literally everyone disagrees with you, including Wizards of the Coast.

Literally everyone agreed that Mystics were great and just needed some tweaking too, right? How'd that work out?
The fact is, you guys in the psion community, as a group, can't agree on what you want, so WotC will ultimately fail regardless of what they do. The half of the DnD community that hates psions will be mad regardless of what they add. Half of the psion community will be mad because they aren't getting their own personal vision of what psions should be.

I don't think that half the D&D community hates psions. I don't know anyone who hates psions. They hate how they've been represented in 5e, and how broken they've been.
There's a simple fix for this: Make psions balanced.
Then, 90% of the D&D community will be happy. The same thing happened with Artificers, who they also had to make new mechanics for.
You know the "Use this once a long rest, and it recharges when you expend a spell slot" abilities? They developed those initially for the Artificer.

1) Thy Mystic was janked, it needed more than a “tweak” it needed a ground-up overhaul. 🤔 like maybe a nifty all-in-one die system that is actually reminiscent of the old Psionicist!😃🤯
2) As long as whatever they give me turns out that Psionics=/=Spellcasting, I will be happy with it. That is my only criteria, that it be different than Spellcasting.

Personally I don't think a psion as a full class is necessary. But then, class based systems in general aren't my favorite, so what do I know?
