I wanted to create a custom Crossbow Bolt of Hill Giant Slaying and used the Arrow of Slaying template, but the homebrew section insists that I pick a weapon type. So I picked Crossbow, then go into the customization and remove the weight.
Any idea if there's a workaround for this or if I'm doing it wrong?
The impression I get is that they are doing it wrong.... they should have a separate category for ammunition.
Yes! That's what I was thinking as well. I just wasn't sure if I missed the ammunition selection somewhere in a dropdown.
Any idea in how we can make suggestions to the Roll20 powers-that-be? Not that I, in the slightest, expect them to read it, much less respond, but I like to think that I did all I can to try and effect positive change.
Homebrew ammunition is currently not supported. It is planned for a upcoming update (along with many other things).
Any idea when updates occur and if it's in the next update?
I love your homebrew spells and feats. I've been thinking of maybe giving one of my players a Ring of Feats; I think using one of yours, like the shield one, would be a unique twist.
I love your avatar. Reminds me of my old-school days playing AD&D and THAC0.

Contacting Roll20 won't help, they're a separate company and since they're separate and a competitor to D&D Beyond, I sincerely doubt they can assist.
The devs of this site, D&D Beyond, are already aware of the issue and it is planned to be fixed, albeit a low priority.
You can create homebrew ammo in the character sheet by creating custom items to track the amount of arrows and custom actions for calculating attack/damage when using them. This does the same thing as is actually more customisable and easier than using the homebrew tools. This is why it's low priority to implement this as part of the tools - because you already have a way of achieving the same result directly on the sheet.

I’m glad you like them! And the avatar too!
They are redesigning the creator tools, the homebrew creator that we use is the same system they use to implement official materials, we just do not have admin privileges. Ammo (among other things) will be part of that overhaul. DDB does not give estimates on timeframes.
Just as a side note, I tried attaching a feat to a magic item, it doesn’t work. 🤷♂️
