Your breath weapon counts as both lightning damage and fire damage for the purpose of overcoming damage resistance and immunity. If a target has resistance or immunity to either one of those damage types, your breath weapon counts as the other against that creature.
I think not having any resistance ever to the breath weapon no matter what would be a little OP. I would probably go with a percent chance of the breath being a majority of one type or the other when used and the resist would be based on that. Roll a percentile and under 50 is fire, over 50 is lightning for that particular use. Or you could use it just a flavor thing but it will count as one type every use.
You know, this is what I like about this site in general; you post a question, everyone gives an answer, and it doesn't devolve into a trashfire of screaming and taunting like Reddit. On Reddit, you post a question, you get downvoted into oblivion. Here, it's just jolly co-operation, all the way.
Yes, this website normally has good, constructive discussions. Not many do seem to have that. Enworld has moderators, but the discussions almost always seem to devolve into verbal fistfights.

It would count as fire damage.

You might be right. Maybe the damage gets split 50/50 between the two damage types (odd number is users choice) every time it is used?

Or just split the damage dice in half and have one group be fire and the other be lightning.

"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
How would you handle it when they have an odd number of dice? Dealers choice, or the odd die is determined randomly?

Either way. One die difference is not an especially big deal.

It's a beautiful thing.
Unlike Reddit, this place actually has moderators.
A functioning moderator team makes a huge difference over the tone of a forum.

Not to say things never devolve around here, but it is more the exception than the rule.
Edit: Spelling (gorram autocorrect 😒)

I think you mean *devolve, not revolve. (Sorry)

I love the discussions on here.
I was thinking of making a purple dragoborn with blasma breath who's an oathbreaker.
Purple dragons actually have plasma breath
