If you can't watch that, however; West Marches essentially takes a massive (10-infinity) sized group, and allows them to play in a sandbox world with a different smaller group (2-8 players) every time they play. Players set up parties to adventure in a massive sandbox world. They do what they want to, when they want to. And you may experience different kinds of games with every adventure (heavy rp, heavy combat, in the middle).
What I love about West Marches is that you do not have to commit to playing every game. You pick and choose, and find times that suit yourself. You can also experiment a lot, without the weight of a set in stone party, you can join at any point and you don't need to worry about there being too many people involved.
This sounds like something that might be better off posted in the Looking for Players & Groups section of the forum. Let me know if you want me to move it for you.
I wasn't sure where it would be best suited if it wasn't an actual recruitment post, but yes if you think it is best suited there I would appreciate it =)

Character Backstory: I was born in a town called Feldredth, a town located across the sea on a different continent which had a mixed population of high elves and humans. I don't remember much of my life in Feldredth other than being stuck indoors learning about the history, magic, and religion. The other children taught along side me seemed to grasp concepts much faster than I could, and I remember some began to learn their very first spells under the school's guidance. The only memory I had outside of the lecture hall was after Feldredth had been attacked by hordes of undead. I watched as the mages at the school stood guard against the endless wave of zombies and skeletons only to die and be turned shortly after. I ran passed burning buildings trying to find my way home but the path was cut off. My only option was to run far away from the town, and that's precisely what I did. I eventually found a small settlement called Black Hearth, where most of the citizens were human. They gave me a place to stay as long as I helped harvest crops , and after awhile I grew comfortable in this new village. I enjoyed travelling around and resumed my education of magic whenever I could find tomes and components. I seemed to understand the arcane better while travelling because I was able to cast simple incantations with very little practice. Eventually a small band of adventurers came to Black Hearth searching for a crypt of some sort, and I decided to follow their group to the crypt. As I entered, I could see carvings along the walls telling of so much history and information that I had not come across in my books, and that's when I got the inspiration to explore the ruins of ancient civilizations to gain access to the forgotten knowledge of the past. On my travels, I discovered my talent for necromancy. It seems odd since my home was destroyed by the undead, but perhaps I can use this gift to prevent it from happening to anyone else.

Character sheet is filled out, just let me know if anything has to change or if this is adequate. I'm fairly new to 5E, I just picked it up last September with a group of friends. The only problem is we don't play enough. I have a lot of free time right now, so I can be a pretty consistent player however that may change at any point. I'm also on the Pacific Timezone, but I can be on at late (or early) hours right now.
EDIT: Added a mysterious 1 to my STR by accident, it was supposed to be 9 not 10
would be helpful to have a timezone for this and also where does the term west marches come from? the first time i heard it was the stream with JP running a show called the west marches...
*I have played eve long enough to know not to click links from people but i finally did it
I'm curious, would people be interested in a West Marches style game? If enough people are, I would love to set one up on discord.
If you don't know what West Marches is, this video by Matthew Colville explains it better than I ever could: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGAC-gBoX9k

Question - timezone and platform you'll host this on? Seeing if I can work time in to throw myself into something else.

Wary the wizard who focuses on homebrew, for he can create nightmares that you wouldn't even dream of
I live in New Zealand so in theory, NZT. BUT I intend on having multiple GMs who can cover different scheduling.
If you love a character, you give them pain, ruin their lives, make them suffer. Maybe even throw in a heroic death.
Have you had any luck in getting enough players? I've been looking for a West Marches game with a NZ time zone.
