We recently released 'Legends of Runeterra' unofficial content on D&D Beyond, and we are thrilled with the enthusiastic response we have seen from the community. This content will be available on DDB until Monday, August 10th.
As with other content that gets removed and archived, existing characters using this content at the time of removal will be unaffected - but you will not be able to use it for new characters or to add it to existing characters after that date.
We will continue to explore ways to bring new and exciting content to D&D Beyond in the future.
Is there a reason the temporary nature of this partnership (and the end deadline of how long the character options would remain accessible) wasn't mentioned in the initial announcements and such? (Or did I just miss that information in the original announcements?)
Will there be a way to purchase this content to keep it available for use in our libraries?
Indeed, what he said!
Homebrew section, you can copy the subclasses and creatures. Still don't know why DnDBeyond doesn't have an Archived option in the character creator considering the sheer ammount of UA that comes and goes. As for why the Runeterra content is being removed... why and how can we acquire it elsewhere? I myself will be saving what I can via the homebrew system but for everyone else...
But... why? Chiming in with the rest here, the content seems well made and usable. Does Riot Games not allow you to use their artwork beyond that point? I'd love to have this permanently available and would also be willing to pay for it.
Yeah, it would be nice to have some transparency here. I'm just so tired of being fed tiny little bits of info. I want to know! I'm a huge fan of D&D and DnD Beyond. It would be nice if we could move past this cloak and dagger nonsense to get some real communication.

It was not mentioned in the original announcement, no.
Yes, circumstances have changed. While we intended for this content to be available indefinitely, upon review, we are not able to do so. We take full responsibility for the miscommunication and apologize for the inconvenience.

See the above line - that is as transparent as we are able to be. I highly-value transparency (which is why I answer most any question thrown my way for 30 minutes most every week in Dev Updates), so I assure you no "cloak and dagger" is intended.
Can't things like this (as well as unearthed arcana that ends up not being published) be turned into content available in the Homebrew options?
Yes, for sure. The mechanical options - such as subclasses, magic items, and monsters - minus the setting/lore information can be shared as public homebrew after the archiving. Keep an eye out on the homebrew section at that time.
I'm not sure what any of this is: but it sums up why I am hesitant to 'buy' anything from DndBeyond... The books I own are mine. I fear buying content that YOU don't own, but still are 'selling' to me. Seems like a scam.

Purchased content isn't relevant here as this is specifically about a specific free content that was made available as part of a cross promotion. Your argument here isn't relevant and is only here because you want to dunk on D&D Beyond.

Nothing was brought though these were free items.

Not everyone is used with handling homebrew tho, out of my group of friends, I'm the only one that has managed to get content through the homebrewing systems properly implemented, and even then, I have my mistakes. Why not leave the Archived section avaliable?

think that might be an over-simplification. the paper the book is made out of is yours, the intellectual property inside the book is still not yours.
btw - there's nothing stopping a person from buying a digital product, and copy/pasting it onto their computer. that's pretty close to buying a physical book, although with a bit of additional work. i have the entire bilgewater setting in a fairly-decently formatted pdf on my computer...because the move is absolutely no surprise at all. IMO, no one should be surprised by this move even with the statement it would be free forever (which you should never believe from anyone). look at all the stuff they provided free in the last 4 months. the only difference is they stated up front it was for a limited time....but really, it shouldn't be a surprise with an obvious 3rd party involved....which i think is really a 4th party?
also not sure if the whole 'well, they're no longer giving me this free stuff which proves i shouldn't buy anything' makes the most sense - at least not to me.

With public homebrew, you simply browse to it and add it to your "collection" - then you can use it for your characters. No building on your part required.

Awwwww, but the content is so fascinating!

This seems really bizarre. Is there a reason it's going away?

this appears to contradict previous statements about this content

did circumstances change?

That's really dumb. Why can't I access the material from the library? This whole service doesn't seem worth it anymore.

nothing like saying free stuff isn't worth it.
