Nacesa -
Near the outskirts of the Gavanderan Realm stands the town of Necesa. What was once a profitable import for the kingdom is now a burden, as soldier after soldier of the Queen's Guard has been sent into the city, only to be slain by a creature known as The Cadaver Collector. The creature appeared three months ago, wreaking havoc on the city. Most citizens were either slain in the initial onslaught or have escaped, but some do still reside in the safer sections, where the beast does not roam often.
This is where you come in. Advisor Marren has tasked your group to enter the city, determine where the beast came from, and destroy the creature all while protecting any remaining citizens. It will not be an easy task, but the reward of surprising the final step of your training to be members of the Obsidian Stand is well worth the risk. The city is full of items and people who may help in your tracking and destroying of the creature, but who knows what other horrors lay within Nacesa?
I'd be interested in a one-shot. What are you looking for in an application? Any restrictions to run with?
Character Name: Draanel Class: Ranger (Fey Wanderer) / Warlock (Undead) Race: Goblin Background: Far Wanderer Backstory: Goblins have forever struggled to amount to much, incessant in-fighting, insatiable appetites for choas, general lack of decorum and anything resembling social order. Certainly with the goblin race, life expectancy is not measured in biological capacity. Draanel despised the anarchy, she was one apart from her kin, and sought out something more than she saw her life to be in the warrens of their homeland. Oftentimes she would sneak off and hunt game in the woods, rather than the random travellers and caravans that others of the blood seemed to prefer. One such day when making her way through the woodland Draanel happened across a strange creature, though humanoid it was woody and smelled of plant. Draanel stalked it for some time, trying to work out whether it would cook over a fire, or be the fire itself. Whilst contemplating the decision she watched as the creature passed by one tree and simply vanished; for all her skills the goblin could see no trace of it's passage beyond the tree trunk. Though it troubled her she didn't ponder the thing too much, that thinking was something only the strange magickers of her clan tended to do.
Weeks passed, and in the same area of the woods, Draanel noticed the creature again. This time, thinking of nothing more than her own need for an answer, she chased the creature and again it disappeared into nothingness She was thoroughily vexed, and soon found all her time and effort was being devoted to hunting this creature. She rarely returned to the warren, living off the land and trapping the area in the hopes of catching the woody thing. More often than not her traps caught rabbit or deer, which at least kept Draanel fed. Almost thinking her little mind had been addled and mistaken, she encountered the creature again, but this time there were three of them, flitting around in the forest. Draanel didn't think, she just shot one with an arrow, before beginning to chase them down. As they began to disappear, this time Draanel was close enough to grab hold of one, and the world changed entirely.
Time in the material plane passed, and at some point Draanel returned from the feywild a changed soul. Her skills developed, and now she kept a little bit of the wilds with her at all times. She sought out more places where the planes converged, and would spend time living and hunting across two worlds. She may well be the scariest goblin alive, striking fear into the hearts of her foes and huntung them down. Her latest trip to the wilds though brought her in contact with a fearsome creature not of the mortal planes, and they struck a deal that would forever change her again, and now her prey would truly know fear.
For now, she is back in the material plane and has heard of a monster near Necesa. She has travelled there for another hunt, another beast to slay and power to be claimed as she sends the offering to her patron.
(As a side note, I'm happy to tie in with The_Mathemagician if we're both selected, as the Feywild link seems to offer a collaboration point)
Backstory: Arix was very weak, so they learned magic through very hard and frequent studying. They heard of this beast, so they wanted to fight it to see how destructive their magic could get, while getting the potential respect from everyone else as a hero.
Question: What are the rules for ability scores? And what content is allowed?
The Circle of Hedgehogs Druid Beholder/Animated Armor Level -20 Bardof the OIADSB Cult, here are our rules.Sig.Also a sauce council member, but it's been dead for a while.
Any base Ability Score calculation you want (point buy, standard array, ect.) then level up accordingly to 9th level. Any official 5e published content is fair game. I'm also willing to accept a bit of Unearthed Arcana if that is desired.

The Circle of Hedgehogs Druid Beholder/Animated Armor Level -20 Bardof the OIADSB Cult, here are our rules.Sig.Also a sauce council member, but it's been dead for a while.
Albert was born in Rotterhauge from a poor numerous family. To get by, he enlisted in a pirate vessel with the only thing he really owned at the time: an old halberd inherited from his grandpa. He was not really a standard pirate: apart from singing gross songs out of tune, he does not use rapiers, guns and the like but, indeed, a halberd; he does not grow moustaches, sideburns or goatee but whole beard So they mocked him and found nicknames for him. He was known by the crew as "Albert with the halberd and a whole beard" but, since it was a little too long, the pirates switched for a simpler HALBERT with a very pronounced H, or, in the end just HHHHHH or HAAAAAA, even the mute kitchen boy was able to call him. Albert liked these jokes and answered back with many others but it was confusing to say the least. Anyway, the pirates mocked him less when they found out he grew indeed very competent with the halberd, not only in fights but also as a cook: he was able to open coconut nuts with one blow, chop big fishes etc... Eventually he left the pirates because one night they were about to fish a whale: they finished the harpoons and they took the halberd out of Albert while he was sleeping: this was outrageous for him. Once ashore, he sent them to hell, bought a new halberd, he craves for adventure.
DESCRIPTION: Albert is in his thirties, ugly face with some yellow teeth, bald, a whole unkept beard, quite short for a human but with broad shoulder and taurine neck. he is muscular but quite fat but it is clear that at the moment he is a little out of shape. He is always up for fun, parties and even dirty jokes
Ok, I'll probably run up a background and fill out the character tomorrow. As there is another fighter / barbarian application I'll run up something else I wanted to try at this level.
Robin heard of this beast, and was interested in it from an academic standpoint. Now that she has been asked to actively go in and hunt the thing down, she is very excited to get some first-person experience with whatever it is.

Character Name: Keir Greenley Class: Ranger (Gloom Stalker) (8) / Fighter (1) Race: Swiftstride Background: Far Traveler Backstory:
Keir grew up in a small Swiftstride clan. there were 4 families who travelled together from settlement to settlement. They stayed for a few days, to a few months over winter, offering their services to the locals. Some places accepted them with open arms, others looked on them with suspicion, but none refused them because their services were always needed.
Keir was 6 when his father disappeared. The clan was travelling through a low marshland. One evening they set up camp, and the next morning 3 of their group, including Keir's father, were nowhere to be seen. There were no tracks, no sign of struggle, they had simply vanished. Rumour spread of creatures in the swamps that had swept in to take them. Keir noticed that his mother never took part in those rumours and she would often sit on their wagon and look silently into the setting sun.
As an only child, Keir was forced to step up and take responsibility for their families share of the work. This expectation from a young age turned Keir into a very serious person with little time for humour. As he reached the age of maturity Keir started to look at the world anew. His mother still looked on wistfully and under her breath, he could hear her whispering to her lost husband. "I know you will return to me," she would say as she tugged on the necklace she never removed.
Over time, the rest of the clan cared less and less for the pain that she was going through and Keir felt more like an outsider. He felt evermore comfortable roaming the woods and the swamplands they passed through then travelling with the carts. Travelling through the woods one day the clan was met by a fur trapper who took him under his wing and he spent several years with him, learning the trade, learning to survive and exploring the world.
Character Name: Rakim Treebearer Class: Warlock (The Archfey) / Bard (College of Glamour) Race: Satyr Background: Hermit Backstory: (Not sure how much detail @CDShark wanted here, so I'll just put the bare bones, and I can send them the rest if they wish)
Rakim was born and raised in the dangerous environment of the Feywild. It is there that he learned to make deals and agreements with more powerful creatures to ensure his own survival. That didn't mean he wasn't building up his own skill, however. While nowhere near talented enough to earn a reputation in the Feywild, Rakim found a way to smuggle himself onto the material plane, where his skills in both bargaining and performance soon began to become known. While his abilities were never related to fighting, he had traveled with a few adventuring groups before, so when Advisor Marren asked him to not only join a group that was attempting to clear Nacesa of The Cadaver Collector and offered to make him a full-fledged member of the Obsidian Stand, the satyr took one look at the benefits and agreed.
(My idea behind Rakim is to have his patron be multiple different fey creatures that he made deals with from his time in the Feywild, as opposed to one singular creature. His Warlock abilities represent small skills that he weaned off of those that he bargained with and have lingered until now. If that doesn't work, I can always rewrite/compromise so that the backstory fits into the homebrew world.)
Build: The idea behind this build is to be built around short rests (Pact Slots + Bardic Inspiration + Fey Presence + Enthralling Performance)... With Gift of the Ever-Living Ones and Song of Rest, there should be plenty of healing, and between Mantle of Inspiration and Buffing/Control spells, he should be able to comfortably sit in the backline causing chaos for the enemy and offering a significant amount of mobility to the party. The other theme of the build is enchantment and illusion spells. Because Rakim is from the Feywild, it makes sense that those are his two most common schools of magic, but he took it to the extreme and only learned spells from those schools. Fortunately, his build still looks viable because of the number of awesome Enchantment/Illusion spells there are, but if the party decides that they would rather have a more traditional spell list, then I can alter it (with @CDShark's permission).

Yep, this weekend is fine. Will you post a link for the campaign on here, or are we just running off a thread? Also, I'm not sure how much gold is reasonable for a lvl 9 to assume earning... especially for a goblin that spends part of her time in the feywild...

Fair point about money. I guess it depends on how well your character is with money or if they even care about currency. I'll get back to you all on that. I've only run games here off a thread but I can look into campaign link if that's a preferable way to play.

“The mark of a successful DM is when you have caused more player deaths with doors than dragons, demons, or devils.”
Looks like we've got the number I'm looking for. Let me know if there are any questions. Will likely start this weekend unless there are detractors.
Since we are starting at level nine, do we get access to any additional equipment? Especially magical items? Or is it just a starting equipment?
Should we have gotten a PM if we were selected? Or was everyone that applied selected?
If it is the latter, then starting this weekend sounds good!
If it is the former, then good luck to all who were selected! May the dice ever roll in your favor.
