"They are bound to those who trespass and steal from the old ruins. That statue of Sol-Ray Ta'a marked the beginning of the old kingdom and used to be a great temple near one of the largest oases in the Scorched Sea. Many years ago when mages, priests, and the common folk of Anjara banded together to crush the lich king it became a battle ground. The temple fell and it along with the oasis was swallowed by the Scorched Sea. However, I'm afraid its mythical guardians might still haunt the skies and sands around these relics of the lich king," Adhida explains grasping at a crystal, vibrant and violet, she wears around her neck a flash of worry across her beautiful face. "Where did your people last see your relic? Why do you think it's here," the mage then asks changing the subject.

Selinae listened to the conversations though much of it was going over her head. But cults were rarely a positive thing in her experience......her Mum had gotten involved in more than a few knitting circles that had turned toxic and controlling...
Jenna can't really read Adhida. She looks concerned but Jenna can't glean anything deeper than that.
The first day of travel ends and the sunsets lighting the sand on fire with it's brilliant glow before disappearing into the horizon. The night blows icy winds over the barren landscape as the desert quickly looses heat from the sun's absence. The crew makes a simple meal with the provisions Maanai procured and the party is left with thier own company as the captain retires for the evening and the crew that will watch the skiff overnight take the deck above.
"Surprisingly smoother passage than before," Maanai comments as they adjust their mask after straightening the scarf covering their neck and head.
"You were dying the last time you were heading out into the Scorched Sea," Adhida exclaims frowning. "I should have never let you go with Maitland....or honestly, honestly I should have gone with you. I could have prevented..." she trails off as Maanai interrupts her by holding up their ungloved hand.
Upon first glance in looks unhuman, the flesh is whole but badly scarred as if by fire or acid! Whatever is was it was highly corrosive!
"I made my choice and paid my price. I only want to restore the faith I lost from my family, " Maanai explains reaching out with their hand and Adhida takes it.
With tears in her eyes she puts Maanai's scarred hand on the side of her beautiful face.
"I am so glad you came with us," Adhida adds. "I...I wouldn't know the first thing about leadership," she adds as Maanai heartily chuckles.
"I think Riw or Leela could teach you a thing or two I couldn't," Maanai says nodding at each party member. "So," they then begin again. "Our crew seems capable enough but I'd sleep easier knowing at least one member of our party was on watch for each shift," they explain gesturing out over the party. "Do I have volunteers? The ship will continue to travel but at a much slower speed," they add. "Plenty of opportunities for the desert to...get curious about us," they add.
In response to Adhida's previous question, Leela sighs deeply and replies: "The relic I seek is the crowning treasure of my home temple in Lyrengorn, dedicated to my goddess Selune. I was charged by my order to seek it and the Myriad, the thieves who took it. My inquiries led me to a port and ships headed for Anjara, and it was there I met Professor Maitland. I joined this expedition so as to jointly assist Maitland and inquire further where the icon and the thieves may be."
She looks up at the sky and whispers half to herself. "I fear I am torn very much in two. I am not able to search singlemindedly for the temple's treasure, yet I am also distracted from effectively protecting my colleagues on this journey as I promised to do."
Leela looks to Adhida again, shaking her head and smiling a little. "My lady, forgive me my woolgathering. My small worries are nothing in comparison to the struggle we face to regain your family's rightful seat."
In response to Maanai's interaction with Adhida, Leela clutches her amulet and reaches forward as if to touch Maanai's scarred hand, but steps back before doing so. She recollects Maitland's words about their curse not being able to be healed by those who attended them, possibly being made worse, and visibily refrains from offering healing assistance.
She is a little shocked at Maanai calling her a leader, and a reply bursts from her. "My lord...! I am no leader, I assure you. I aspire only to be a healer and protector." She looks down and changes the subject. "And protect I shall... by taking the first watch tonight. I can also assist by sharing the Goddess's gifts of sight in the darkness and alertness with whoever takes the second watch."
"I guess I will take the fourth one" - says Riw a bit later, still admiring the sight they all have watched a few minutes earlier - "I only can teach you how to fight without magic, but I will do it with pleasure if you wish!"
He turns to Manaai: "If you feel the need, please tell us more about the curse you and Maitland were hit by. If we plan to return to the same place, we must be prepared for everything."

"Yes... I am sure we can help each other, as the Goddess wishes." Leela smiles gently in return.
During the evening or the next day, Leela keeps an eye out for an opportune moment to catch Maanai or the captain to chat with them about the same.
The hours pass on watch without incident. It isn't until Riw watch when the wind picks up as the sun crests over the desert revealing a wall of sand headed straight for the ship! It's massive nearly blotting out the Sunrise!
"Sand storm coming," the first make, a silvery aarakocra, shouts slipping down the mass from the crow's nest and landing gracefully on deck!
Captain Vanya shows up on deck moments later.
"Take in the sails and batten the hatches," Captain Vanya shouts next as the crew moves about the ship, like a well tuned instrument working in harmony with one another. "Better go below-deck unless you've got something to offer," she then shouts at Riw as the wind picks up blowing sand everywhere as she fashions some goggles over her eyes and a scarf over her beck!
OOC Skill challenge! I need each of you to think of a separate skill to offer aid to the crew or ship to weather the storm. If you use the same skill as another party member your DC will increase! Please discuss via game PM!
