Avery will ask "You wouldn't to happen to have any type of warrior friendly magical armor or anything at the Arcana would you?" He is in search for better armor.
Theldrin greets Morley enthusiastically as the party returns to the Unearthed Arcana, but then tries not to look too overly excited. He looks around the store for items of interest, at first checking on prices for any potions or wands available for sale.
Xanrym is able to learn much from his talks with the worshippers of Fharlanghn. Was there anything he wanted to know in particular? Or perhaps we can wait to see if anything comes up that he would know about later.
Xanrym also gets a good look at the Thieves' and Slum Quarters of the city. They certainly are downtrodden places, but are not as bad as Vinme made them out. All while exploring the city and telling stories of the Grey Chain, news starts to spread of this burdening adventuring company.
If the three of you head to Unearthed Arcana, Morley will greet you with happy recognition, "Come in! Please! The Company of the Grey Chain."
He is very interested in the dragon's blood, not so much in the harpy feathers. He offers you 30gp for the blood and 5gp all up for the harpy's stuff.
As you have visited him well in advance, he could probably procure the magic items you want if you give him a couple weeks and have the money to pay.
(Basically the way we're gonna handle it is this: Morley has access to any common magic items, each costing 100gp. He has a few Uncommon Magic Items on hand, and can get you stuff ordered in within a couple weeks for 400gp. Everything else will take more time to get in, or maybe even will take a mission to get, and will cost even more money.)
Avery looks around the shop for any magical splint, or half plate, knowing full plate would be a rather high price. "I could always head to the Citadel in the city and check in with The Watch. Perhaps they have something they needs to be done if we need some extra coin. I could look into my old company."
Theldrin selects two Potions of Healing and gives Morley 200 gp. "Thank you, I hope to purchase more soon but think this will suffice for now," he says with a smile, before adding, "Would you happen to have any recommendations on affordable yet comfortable... and ah, secure accommodations in the city?"
(OOC: will wait for DM confirmation but if normal pricing is available, then Theldrin will purchase 2 Potions of Healing for 50 gp each and 1 Potion of Greater Healing for 100 gp)
Xanrym is able to learn much from his talks with the worshippers of Fharlanghn. Was there anything he wanted to know in particular? Or perhaps we can wait to see if anything comes up that he would know about later.
(OOC: Nope. Whatever Xanrym learns could just help to explain future successful INT checks later about weird facts and local history across the Flanaess. Or feel free to use it as a plot hook to get the Company of the Grey Chain involved in its next adventure or to introduce new PCs or NPCs. It seems like people in the World of Greyhawk would pay tribute to multiple gods. I think Xanrym would have the strongest affinity with Fharlanghn, especially after his clerics raised Toska from the dead. If the Company eventually travels around the region, I can imagine Xanrym checking in at the local church of the Far Horizon, carrying messages from other towns, learning the local news, etc. Xanrym would probably also revere Boccob and/or Celestian (for their association with knowledge and magic) and maybe eventually Heward if Xanrym becomes aware of him. )
Xanrym also gets a good look at the Thieves' and Slum Quarters of the city. They certainly are downtrodden places, but are not as bad as Vinme made them out. All while exploring the city and telling stories of the Grey Chain, news starts to spread of this burdening adventuring company.
Perfect! If the Company is going to be in and around the City of Greyhawk, Xanrym would prefer for jobs to come to them so that they don't have to work too hard to find new work. The treasure from the naga cult won't last forever, and Xanrym doesn't know of any dungeons or temples near the Free City that have not been plundered already.

He is very interested in the dragon's blood, not so much in the harpy feathers. He offers you 30gp for the blood and 5gp all up for the harpy's stuff.
Xanrym will check with Theldrin, but as long as the wizard doesn't have a use for the dragon's blood, Xanrym takes that deal. (The remaining 3 members of the Company would split the gold: +10 gp for Avery, Theldrin, and Xanrym.)
Xanrym would rather keep the harpy stuff than part with it for so little. Perhaps they'll eventually discover a formula for crafting a magic item related to darkness, shadows, or even charm effects using feathers. For now, he'll just keep them as souvenirs. Sometimes, when he's telling the story of their fight against the harpy, maybe he'll show the audience one of the feathers..."finally, the harpy, Araphise, laid in ruin on the floor of her lair, her giant wings, black as the shadow over her soul. And I plucked a feather -- THIS feather -- from that very monster. The dreadful creature had allied herself with the cult in exchange for the fresh prey: men whom should could befuddle with her enchanted song and then eat out their hearts while they still lived!"

That sounds fair. Xanrym thanks Morley and admits that he only has enough treasure to afford one magic item. Once he decides, he gives Morley his top two picks -- in case his top pick is simply unavailable -- and checks in every few days to see how the search is going.
Theldrin gives Xanrym a nod to go ahead with the sale of the dragon's blood. He hasn't had time yet to research its potential uses but is happy for the party to sell something to Morley he's interested in.
Avery - As for armour, Morley doesn’t have any. But if you were to bring in some of your own, he would be happy to organise a delivery of either Mithral or Adamantine armour. Either of which will cost 400gp more than usual. As for job givers, you have access to both the Citadel and contacts to your old mercenary company. Which one will you reach out to?
Theldrin - Yep healing potions cost less.
Xanrym - (So did you decide on the item you want or do you want some options?)

Avery does have chain he can hand over. He'll reach out to his old company to see if there are any jobs available
(Sorry I phrased that wrong. Avery can sell his Chainmail elsewhere for half price and then buy adamantine or mythril armour from Morley for the full price of the armour plus 400gp. Not sure how much money Avery has but you can look up all that stuff in the PHB.)
Theldrin will also purchase a Find Familiar scroll (100gp) and the components needed to copy the spell (50 gp), as well as two uses of the incense needed to cast the spell twice (20 gp).
Xanrym - (So did you decide on the item you want or do you want some options?)
Xanrym decides to focus on things that'll make him more a more effective scout. He can rely on Theldrin to be their "proper wizard," but other than his eloquent words and his affiliation with the Citadel of Eight, the unique things that he brings to the Company are his skills as a tomb raider: sneaking around, disarming traps, and opening locks.
Xanrym asks Morley to track down one of the famed Cloaks of Elvenkind that helps its wearer blend into his surroundings.
If Morley is uanble to find that item in the next couple of weeks, then Xanrym would be interested in purchasing either Boots of Elvenkind or something that would give him Darkvision, like Goggles of Night. (The need for a lantern or Light made it difficult for the Company to scout ahead in the dark tunnels of the naga cult's dungeon!)
Xanrym plans to stay in the Free City for a couple of weeks while they figure out what the Company of the Grey Chain should do next. A few things that he spends his time during that first week...
As the first week drifts into the second, Xanrym starts to shift more of his time to quiet study at the Great Library and even the Grand Citadel (using the letter of recommendation). While he waits for Morley to track down a magic item for him, Xanrym spends his days doing research, initially just doing some background reading for their adventures in Orlane: histories that mention the region around Orlane (especially the Dim Forest and the Rushmoors) and anything he can find on spirit nagas, harpies, and troglodytes. If he's going to write an actual book or epic poem about their adventure, he doesn't want to get anything wrong or simply repeat what has already been said. In his research, he especially looks for anything that might tell him who "The Undying King" refers to. He's not sure whether the name is connected to the naga, the necromancer Garath, or the location in or around the Rushmoors. But he feels that there must be some thread to pull to start unraveling the mystery.
Xanrym - Investigation: 15, trying to find information about "The Undying King." (OOC: Not sure whether that's the right skill. I figured it's some INT skill.)
Xanrym is also happy to talk with other sages and spellcasters, if they'll talk with him. He's not a trained wizard, like Theldrin, but he realizes that he should take his study of magic more seriously. He doubts that they would have gotten past the harpy and the naga without his Calm Emotions spell. He starts researching other spells that could prove useful in the future. Otiluke and Jallarzi may be too busy to take an apprentice, but maybe their existing apprentices will talk or at least make introductions to other scholars in the Free City.
(OOC: That's mostly just some narrative cover for aspects of the rebuild of Xanrym's character with the 2024 rules.)
Morely agrees and within a couple weeks produces a Cloak of Elvenkind for Xanrym for 400gp.
Xanrym happily buys it!
Xanrym delighted with the cloak's fine construction and compliments Morley, saying that he believes Morley to be "the best magical quartermaster in the city!" He pays for the cloak with most of his share of the gold and jewels from the naga's and harpy's treasure hoards. Xanrym discreetly brings the payment to Unearthed Arcana over the course of a few different trips so that he isn't seen carrying a big bag of treasure through the streets!
Once he takes possession of the cloak, Xanrym says, "I'll certainly have to bring the Company of the Grey Chain back here after our next big job." He mentions that they company may come across other magical or exotic creatures in their travels. "You know, we almost felled an owlbear in the Dim Forest a few weeks ago." He asks Morley for a list of ingredients that Unearthed Arcana would be especially interested to acquire or that they're always looking to buy.
Xanrym thinks that it would be better to know what Morley wants to buy instead of just bringing back random parts from the monsters they happy to encounter. Besides, Xanyrm hasn't figured out what the Company's next job will be. Now that they've been in the Free City for two weeks, he's starting to feel restless to get back out on the road. If they can't find any other work, maybe they could just do a simple "fetch quest" to acquire some exotic ingredient that Unearthed Arcana wants.
Xanrym checks with Theldrin and Avery to see whether they'd be ready to leave town if the Company lands a new "job" soon. Xanrym isn't above accepting simple work as a guard escort, but he'd prefer to see the Company doing "heroic deeds" like they did to free Orlane of the naga cult. He checks with the priests at both the Temple of the Far Horizon and the Church of Saint Cuthbert to see whether they've heard anything that sounds like a job (someone who could pay for their services) or a rumor that could viably lead to some treasure. He also starts checking daily at the High Tower Inn to see whether anyone has sent a message to the Company of the Grey Chain. Whenever Xanrym tells of the company's adventures, he is sure to mention that people can leave messages for the Company at the High Tower Inn, where they'll be sure to go whenever they're in the Free City.
(OOC: I've marked off 28 gp from Xanrym's character sheet for the "couple of weeks" that he's been staying at the High Tower Inn.)
