[You’re orange, the Maurezhi is grey, corpses are marked with an X, the ghast corpse is the white X, Techi is purple, Sly is red, Xarkris is yellow and Eggo is pink! You can obviously share a space with a corpse, but I thought I’d start you on separate squares to them and mark the corpses where they died, just to remind you all where they are.
Also for the sake of ease in small corridors and cramped rooms, and since Bilyur is Small to begin with, I’m going to give him the option to choose to become Medium or Large when he shifts to werebear form. I know it isn’t RAW but I think that will allow him to make use of his abilities far more without getting stuck or being restrained by space!]
Just need Bilyur’s initiative and somebody to release the fiend before combat starts! Although unchaining the Maurezhi is an action, it doesn’t cost your turn as initiative won’t begin until it is done!]
Bilyur tentatively steps forward and unchains a single link in the coiling gold restraint, which quickly fall way as the Maurezhi bursts into action, moving in ferocious, leaping movements, as if its dancing to the rhythm of some invisible, uncaged songbird. It doesn’t attack however, instead pirouettes around, taking joy in each moment to extend a hand towards the southern doorway, all of your minds buzzing with a swarm of elation as the fiend cries ‘Rise! Rise! Join in the slaughter and ecstasy! Our time is now!’
To your horror, you look to where the Murezhi is pointing, and see the quartered corpse of the ghast begin to squirm, the burnt tendons weaving the parts of the body together until the resurrected undead’s form has been fully repaired and it lifts itself to its feet. Its vile tongue wraps around its split face whilst its toothy mouth spreads into a grin, and mutters ‘I knew death was no concern with you at hand, my liege! May death come quick to these fools!’
The ghast has been revived at full hit points, and joins the initiative [16 + 3 = 19 so a tie with Eggo, roll a d4 and whoever gets higher will go first, the ghast got 2. I’ll post a status, initiative order and updated map tomorrow]
[Oh, and Techi got a 4 + 2 = 6 for his initiative too, before I forget!]
[No sorry, should have said but the Maurezhi is just dancing about on the spot, it hasn't actually moved, the movements it is doing are flavour!]
Eggo and the newly rebirthed Ghast move at almost the exact same time, but the undead just seizes the initiative as it moves back into the room. Techi gasps and lunges ahead to snag it with his dagger, leaving a small stab wound at the small of its back, but the ghast keeps going. [Techi: Opportunity Attack: 12 + 4 = 16 to hit with his dagger, 5 piercing damage]
The ghast then arrives at Bilyur's side, raking downwards with its claws, and although Bilyur feels no pain due to his werebear blood, the magical effects of the attack still can set in. [Ghast: Action: 18 + 5 = 23 to hit with its claws, no damage and Bilyur succeed on a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or be paralyzed for 1 minute. If he fails he can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of his turns, ending the effect on himself on a success.]
What's more, the overpowering reek of decay is still very much active around the ghast. Bilyur finds it nauseating, but the Maurezhi seems to revel in it. A buzz appears in all your minds as the fiend applauds its thrall, telling it 'Well done! Well done! What a wonderful stench! We must add to it with the odour of our enemies organs!' [Bilyur is subjected to the Ghast's Stench: Any creature that starts its turn within 5 feet of the ghast must succeed on a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or be poisoned until the start of its next turn. On a successful saving throw, the creature is immune to the ghast's Stench for 24 hours]
Eggo is up!
Initiative Order Maurezhi: 23 Ghast: 19 Eggo Lass: 19 <- CURRENT TURN Xarkris: 16 Techi: 6 Sly: 5 Bilyur: 3
Wait... Why am I standing next to this thing? wonders Eggo Lass to herself. In a flash of silvery mist she teleports away from the situation down the hall.
Eggo repositions herself to a safer spot in a puff of smoke, and then fires a pair of crackling bolts of magic formed by eldritch blast. The first blast hits and the fiend's form is obscured for a split second by a flash of raw energy and light, but as that flash fades you see the second make contact with the Maurezhi's now outstretched and open palm, and be crushed between its claws, fizzled out painlessly. As she runs around to reposition, she can still hear the fiend calling and buzzing in her mind, mocking her with senseless threats and boasts.
It is now Xarkris' turn!
Initiative Order Maurezhi: 23 Ghast: 19 Eggo Lass: 19 Xarkris: 16 <- CURRENT TURN Techi: 6 Sly: 5 Bilyur: 3
Bilyur just manages to fight back against the paralyzing magic of the ghast's claws [and the Stench when it comes to the start of his turn] Xarkris then casts Hunter's mark on the Maurezhi to gain an arcane advanatage over it, and his first attack slices down through the fiend with an edge of added effectiveness which helps against the Maurezhi's non-magic weapon attack resistance. [I'm going to use the 2024 version of Hunter's Mark if that's alright as I feel the 2024 version is much more streamlined, as the 2014 one leaves a lot unexplained, like whether the attack also becomes magical for the sake of overcoming immunities and resistances, or if it's just the added damage that's magic, or none of it at all, but the 2024 neatly has it do force damage instead, which I think works quite well]
Techi then hears Bilyur loud and clear, calling back 'I'm running short on magic myself so I'll fend off the ghast while you focus on the fiend!' He then throws his dagger at the undead, which is facing away, but misses abysmally as it hits the wall with a clatter [Action: 3 + 4 + 7 to hit with his Dagger] However, this is merely a distraction to use some of his innate magical mastery to invigorate himself with another burst of power to continue forth. [Bonus Action: Expends two Sorcery Points to regain a 1st level spell slot with Flexible Casting]
Sly is now up!
Initiative Order Maurezhi: 23 Ghast: 19 Eggo Lass: 19 Xarkris: 16 Techi: 6 Sly: 5 <- CURRENT TURN Bilyur: 3
Sly grasps the disparate tangles of magic around Bilyur with her bare hands, focusing them through her crystal. She knots them together, streamlines their function, and then pushes them towards the monk, speeding him up even further.
Bilyur benefits from the following:
Speed is doubled
+2 bonus to Armor Class
Advantage on Dexterity saving throws
Additional action on each turn. That action can be used to take only the Attack (one attack only), Dash, Disengage, Hide, or Utilize action
When the spell ends, Bilyur will be Incapacitated and have a Speed of 0 until the end of his next turn, as a wave of lethargy washes over him.
Attack the Maurezhi five times with unarmed strikes. (16 to hit for 6 damage, 15 to hit for 10 damage, 9 to hit for 12 damage, 20 to hit for 5 damage(No more opportunity attacks, and a critical hit for 10 damage. (DC 15 CON save* as well as a DC 15 DEX save**)
*Against Stunned. On a success, its speed is halved and the next attack has advantage.
**Against prone. On a success, there is no effect.
Sly enhances the speed of her gnome companion, leading to most of Bilyur's magically hastened attacks to strike the fiend, and although the Maurezhi is resistant to the punches, they still manages to leave quite a mark. It then manages to just pull through on both the affects Bilyur tries to impose on it. [Stun Save: 15 + 1 = 16, Prone Save: 17 + 3 = 20]
Following the barrage of blows, the fiend looks about and identifies Sly as the main source of magic within the room. It steps towards her, out of the shackles around its feet [Meaning both Bilyur and Xarkris can make opportunity attacks against it], and then suddenly clutches at her throat with a clawed hand, before dragging her a little closer, her mind filled with its buzzing message of 'I can tell you are of fiendish descent. You could be a worthy thrall if you let go of some of your...personal grievances.' Without warning it then clamps down with it's needle like teeth on her neck, and searing pain is not the only thing she feels, as she notices a slight dreg of her personality be sucked out into the fiend, and whilst it's a numbing sort of sensation, it also feels oddly soothing, as if some of her worries have been taken away with it.
Maurezhi: Multiattack: Claws: 14 + 6 = 20 to hit, 9 slashing damage and she must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or be paralyzed for 1 minute. On a failure she can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of her turns, ending the effect on herself on a success. [Along with a DC 10 Concentration save for haste if she isn't paralyzed] Bite: 17 + 6 = 23 to hit, 17 [+ 8 if she's paralyzed since it would count as a crit] piercing damage and her Charisma score is lowered by 2 [With a DC 10 Concentration Save for haste if concentration isn't already broken] Raise Ghoul Recharge Attempt: 2
Following this assault, the ghast simply disengages from Bilyur and steps around to position itself between Xarkris and Bilyur. Both of them have gotten used to it's stench by now, but poor Sly hasn't, meaning that at the start of any of her turns within 5 feet of the ghast, she must succeed on a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or be poisoned until the start of her next turn. On a successful saving throw, she is immune to the ghast's Stench for 24 hours.
