Orion speaks up and say "tie the rope and piton to an arrow and see if you can hit the mark, sounds like a good idea. If not we will have to go down it is worth a shot."
Sol will take an arrow and tie one end of Brin's rope to it. "Can someone tie off or hold tight to the other end so we don't lose it?" And she will aim for the hole in the golden nugget, take a deep breath and lose the arrow.
Brin ties off the other end of the rope to his quarterstaff and holds tight to it.

You distractedly grab the rope thinking about the engravings and swing ahead. It is a smooth ride with your feet on the little knot at the end. You are just to the other side and are ready to let go....
Suddenly your feet slip and you go slipping down to the edge of the rope. Your hands are cut and bruised. You clung on to dear life as your hands grab the knot.
The rope is 10ft long. You have to go up. You climb 1ft with each dice roll. Roll 17 d6s. With each roll more than 3 you climb up 1ft. With each less than 4 you slip down 0.5 ft. After 17 rolls roll with disadvantage (format roll1, roll2) in sets of 5. This will continue till you cover your 10ft or slip down into the abyss and who knows what awaits you there. The whole result will considered. For example, if you climb till 10ft but the last roll moves you down 0.5 ft then you will move to 0.5 ft.
OOC: Not completely sure I understand the instructions, but here goes with the rolls. I'll roll the 17 first, then go back and edit post to calculate and follow other instructions if needed...

At around 10 feet below the standing level a thick blanket of fog lies. Nothing below it is visible....

Karney is distracted by the engravings on the walls. These look familiar.
After examining them, he will secure his gear, weapons and shield firmly to his body and prepare to cross.

The rope swings wildly to one side put with a slight twist of the body you are able to cross safely.
You grab the rope as it swings back, jump ahead and with a perfect spin land right on your feet, gracefully as an elf.....
