((Sorry, over half the time I read and/or post I am on my cell phone and not really in a position to be drawing a map or such... Shayne is going to be perpetually lost.))
((This is not a problem. He's a city kid in the woods. It's not so implausible he's become a wee bit disoriented.))
((Oops that's my bad. I had reread the thread about the stone and thought it was this southern path. I too play on mobile, exclusively, so I have a tendency to rely on memory. Seems that is failing quicker than I thought. However, I am happy to take the "Eric uses his woodman skills and is navigating by using the stars" approach. Even if it is daylight.))

((See that junction near the K in Darkling Wood? That's the party's present location. I placed question marks over all the trails you have either found but not explored or found but only gone up partway. No precise scale will be given, but it was six or seven miles from Rillford to the place where the wagon trail led off west into the forest. Consider all distances on this map approximate. It's an aid, not a close description.))
(Yay, map! Turns out, Alyna was wrong all along - I though north is Rillford. We are in the middle on the crossroad, right? Above the letter "k"?))
Alyna was never so deep into the forbidden woods before either, of course. In the middle of the day and in the company it still did not feel so bad, though. ""That way," the girl waved south, "is toward the home, right? Not sure after all these turns. The miller could try to go this way... If he was going by himself."
Perception: 18 (She is looking for a friendly animal too, not only anything out of order)
"If he's anything like me, he was lost and turned about after the second or third turn," Ketch says looking around the woods. He calls out on occasion, shouting the miller's name. "What? If he's just wounded or fallen or something perhaps he can answer..."
Xylys is going to keep a map. "Our starting point, the Cart is C; Path to the immediate south, P1 goes to a fork, F1, which splits into two paths P2S and P3SW. The path to the Big Clearing, BC, is P4 and it splits into P5NW and P6S. P6S ends at a T with P7N and P8S. respectively. This is a rough waty of keeping track and we can update and modify as needed." He looks at every one and grin. "I am a heck of a cartographer, yes!"
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
Looking around, Alyna finds a squirrel watching the group from a low tree limb. The little rodent chatters and runs around the branch, peeking at her upside down.
Well, squirrel would have to do (and who knows, may be with that enchantment on she would understand what Xylys said about maps too).
If the squirrel could hang around for the next ten minutes, Alyna tries to concentrate on the spell and talk to the little rodent (or search for another one first if that one runs away.) Same questions - whether or not it saw a human around in the last few days, and if there was anything interesting happening around at all.
It tells Alyna about some 'very good water' that can be found up the north trail, where the trees grow far apart and the ground is bumpy. Go any further that way and the trees give way to grass and open places, where the hawks hunt. Hawks! Dangerous for squirrels!
The squirrel tells her a large open place with berries and running water--not as good as the northern water but still sweet to drink--can be reached by going south. This clearing is closer than the high places and open fields of the north.
(The squirrel won't remain the full duration, although Alyna was about to get it to linger by feeding it some of her rations. You can attempt a second perception roll to spot some other creature before the spell runs out.)
"We should go talk to the hawks, maybe... Birds of any kind would likely have seen a bigger part of the forest, more likely to have spotted something?" Shayne suggests.
"What about you,?" he asks, kneeling down and petting Fammy. "You feel like flying?"
Shayne pauses, eventually gives his cat a bit of a smirk. "True, true... Alright then, just keep your eyes and ears open, eh?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Information was fully shared, of course, and Alyna did not see the need to keep squirrel around any longer. However she liked Shayne's idea about birds.

Perception: 13 Anyone to talk to?
Alyna hears a flute-like birdsong, and, daring to go off the trail a short distance westward, soon finds a thrush perched in the branches of a maple.
"Danger in that direction," Alyna pointed south-east and after the heavy pause added without much enthusiasm: "Shall we go and check if that is what got the miller?"

The squirrel hasn't seen any humans around, no.

The little bird proves talkative...

It warns her that danger lurks in the southeast...
But even as Alyna asks what sort of danger, the spell ends and the bird, spooked by the sound of her voice, flies away to the north.
