Ellyria is a magocracry on high, a living in a city in the sky. Dominating the heritage kingdoms of the continent of Embera below. The mages from Ellyria have become benevolent masters. The seek more power which is exhausting the intricate Spell Weave that gifts magic to all.
You are an adventurer answering a job board in the small lakeside city of Whitehaven. A crossroads of sorts half way between Lahiri, the kingdom of halflings, and Arorosa, the gnomish kingdom, on a lake rumored to be the home of a terrible beast. "On the ground" spell casters, outside the divine based magics, of any kind are now extremely rare. Arcane magic is mistrusted with Emerbains hiding their children from the reaping. Arcane talent is cultivated by Ellyrians. The reaping, lead by the mages of Ellyria, happens in all the lands of Embera. The mages from Ellyria seek out magic user manifesting any talent regardless of age and heritage or social standing and they are quickly taken to the city in the sky for training.
The Spell Weave is in crisis. The elders from all races of Emberains believe it's near the breaking point. You and your party will discover just how close Embera is coming to disaster.

Name: Ander Brightwood
Class: Monk
Race: Half Elf
Ability scores: 15121581416
Flexible and concise backstory: Ander was left at the door of a monk temple as an infant. He was raised by the monks in their temple. He was trained to fight and to live the way of the monk at a teenager and was forced to complete one final trial to spar to the death with another young monk. He refused but the other monk attacked him. On the urge of death Ander knocked out the other monk and ran. He escaped the temple and ran down the mountains. He ended up in a town and found refuge in a tavern. He thought about his past as he drank a flask of ‘Nargels’ wine. He decided to become an adventurer using his abilities for good and to gain the things needed to take down his temple.

Name: Sutha Myev
Class: Ranger (Beastmaster) - focus on casting and using her companion.

Backstory: Sutha grew up on the outskirts of her tribe due to her mixed heritage. No one wanted to associate with the half-blood out of fear of her possessing magical abilities. Always seeking to prove herself, Sutha would often go hunting for ever greater prey to prove herself to the tribe. One day the hunting party she was traveling with stumbled deep into a swamp. While they were sloshing their way through a large alligator attacked them. Unable to track the beast in the water, they were outmatched until Sutha dove under and grabbed the gator's tail. The last the tribe thought they would see of her was the beast swimming away dragging the stubborn half-blood. Sutha managed to not only best the alligator with her bare hands, but she managed to befriend the creature. Upon returning the the tribe she found them to be no more accepting, thinking that she had used some strange magic on the beast. Seeing that no matter what she did, the tribe would no accept her, Sutha set off with her new friend, Truk, to find somewhere she would be accepted.

DnD Experiance: I've been playing dnd for around a decade since starting with my dads old AD&D books and playing most every edition since. Also some pathfinder experience. A lot of pathfinder.
Best DnD moment to date: My players reaction to a session I ran of them exploring a wizard's tower and fighting an Allip at the end. It was the first big boss fight I ran and it went so well.
Worst DnD moment: I look back on this fondly it was a bad time. During high school another player decided to assassinate my character. My next character was built to be able to return the favor if needed since the DM was encouraging PvP. I think our characters killed each other over 7 times and kept getting res'd. Kiori
Druid (Moon) - focusing on summoning a spirit and shifting and after combat healing
Goliath
Backstory: Kiori grew up in the slums of (insert large city). Trying to get out of poverty, she joined the city watch. There she befriended an older shaman who aided the watch in investigations by speaking to the little animals of the city. Kiori had a knack for making friends with the vermin and the shaman offered to train her as a druid. Using her newfound knowledge, Kiori became one of the best detectives in the watch and specialized in the hunting of fugitives using her animal friends along with her ability to follow a suspect as any creature within the city. One of her hunts lead her out of the city and down to Whitehaven. There she lost the trail and has been a little lost, not wanting to return without her target.

Backstory: The vedalken fishing village of Nargels, found along the shores of Bras d'Or, has never strove for fame or glory despite its peoples’ natural inclinations towards creativity. The Reaping purposefully dulled the Bulvezer family’s quick wit for generations. Despite this, Kara’s parents watched with growing concern as their daughter grew proficient in both crafting and animating her inventions with sparks of magic. In an attempt to keep her arcane proficiency hidden, they sent her to the Kingdom of Arorosa, in the hopes that she would blend in and become lost amidst other gnomish inventors. Running low on coin during the journey there, Kara has stopped by the job board at Whitehaven to try and raise some funds so she can continue her path to Ararosa -- and prospective safety.
How long have you played DnD?: 5e: roughly 1 1/2 years. Before that: mostly 3.5+ Baldur's Gate video games and sequels / spinoffs
Best DnD Moment: Being the DM to the first DnD campaign my young children ever played, and getting to witness them finish it, celebrate, and ask for more. Brought tears to my eyes, it did.
Worst DnD Moment: VTTabletop: my bard character had died, and the DM asked me to roleplay out his final thoughts before death, after which I was to retire the character (too low level for resurrections, too late for revivifies). Another player in the campaign who didn't like me OR my character talked over / interrupted my closing monologue non-stop and joked with the other characters about the bard dying of "an STD" (the bard got his brain eaten by a mindflayer while sleeping, but the player in question's character failed the medicine roll so couldn't tell in-character). This was short lived, as the player in question got chastised by the DM afterwards, that player and I eventually made peace with one another and still play together, and I managed to resurrect and properly retire that bard character 3 levels later. At the time it happened it was pretty disheartening / angering, though.
WARNING: I don't usually post on weekends. I participate in / DM tabletop games for my friends and family on Saturdays and Sundays and need that time "off" from the forums.
NOTES: I took 3 light crossbows + bolts as starting equipment, sold all of them for half price, and bought at full price a variety of mundane items. 2 levels of starting gold with her background is 20 gold coins, as a reference.
Forgoing the background-supplied starting gold for the roll. Keeping the starting equipment and still doing the trades though :) 8 x 10 level 3: 12 x 10 (level 3)

Some good questions via PM so I'd thought I'd share here. I'll post more as they come in.
Q: I had a few questions about other races in your world. What is it like for half-orcs, orcs, Goliaths, or underdark races (dark dwarves and gnomes)?
A: I wouldn't say they have any more stigma than say solely because of their race but that being said underdarkers still have sunlight sensitivity however that's something I will stick with it makes sense for them being raised below ground. I'd say besides the half <insert race> get much more flack than say a drow or an orc. They aren't inherently bad. Mixing races is a taboo for sure because it seems to produce more magic users weirdly enough. Also because magic users 'bring down the 'readers' within the reaper mages' which have in a fashion have become the bogeymen of Embera who steal magically talented children.
*sidenote the mage city of Ellyria has been in the air for 150 years so well over a generation of humans, dragonborns, orcs etc.. The races with average lifespans.

Class: Fighter 1/Barbarian 2 (Subject to change if you would rather have no MC) (Intending to only take Fighter levels after this. Would like to go Rune Knight)
Race: Goliath
Ability scores: 101110161415
Backstory: Vormag is a members of Tribe Stormheart— a nomadic tribe of Orcs, Goliaths, Humans, nargels, and other races that roam the lands Embera. For as long as it has been documented, the Stormheart Tribe has posed the ancient art of rune carving and use this magic to create and then imbue mundane items and weapons to trade with others. Vormag is the son of Thedram Stormheart—chief of the tribe. By nature Vormag has been expected to learn the trade of his people; to become a rune carver so that he can one day take his place as chief. As of now, Vormag still has not mastered rune carving, and should he not, his younger brother Kahn will take his place and Vormag will have nothing. At the suggestion of his father, Vormag set out to explore the world in the hopes that adventuring might bring his power to him. Now in Whitehaven with nothing else to do, Vormag finds himself looking for a job to sustain himself. Personality wise, when interacting with others, Vormag comes across as a gentle giant. He is kind, but not very smart and has almost no knowledge of the world around him other than his tribe.
Time zone: CST. Should be able to post at least a couple times a day.
Experience: 3-ish years at this point. Pretty much only played 5e.
Moments: Best: Started watching/listening to CR over the pandemic around May of last year. Got through C1 and caught up to C2 by the end of August. It helped me get through some hard times and definitely helped me to become a better DM and player. Worst: As a new/inexperienced DM, I created an extremely unbalanced combat encounter for a party of low level characters. It led to a TPK— the group was not very happy (I like to think I have improved from that).
Gold: 3x10= 40 7x10= 60 Total: 100 gp.

She then changed her focus from dance to battle with a scythe (reskinned great axe) throwing herself into trying to protect her new family and anyone else from the reaping and worse.
How long have you played DnD? 30+ years. Skipped 4e. A little more than a year in 5e now.
Best/worst DnD moments to date. Best: Playing 3.5 as a spiked chain wielder, my character regularly teased the rogue about her consistent nat 1s on stealth while having in often turned back on me as I would trip myself with my chain in combat rolling nat 1s to hit... Worst: Attempting to DM with a no longer friend in the group who had to have his way in the game period.

Flexible and concise backstory:
Sef grew up in a city, living on the streets. He barely has any memory of his parents, and has no idea what happened with them. On his own, he learned to keep out of sight and 'acquire' what he needed to get by. He did not like to think of himself as a thief, but he knew that was what he was.
When about 8, he met a man that lived in the city that would pay young urchins for information or to even go be his eyes and ears certain places. Over several years, Sef did many jobs for this man, who was very impressed. At about 14 this man gave Sef a position of sorts. He put him up in a tiny room above a tavern in a run down part of the city. This man seemed to have an office of sorts there as well - though he clearly lived elsewhere. Sef was given some training in writing and history, and at times asked to help with copying various papers, deliver message, and continue to go out and surreptitiously gather information.
After more than 4 years of this, one day the man did not show up when expected. It was a few days later when a small pouch and note showed up unexpectedly in his room. The pouch held a few coins, while the note indicated the man was in danger and Sef should quietly leave the city. It ended with a code word that let Sef know it had indeed come from the man, followed by the word nargels - which meant nothing to him.

How long have you played DnD? Started with Basic D&D then AD&D... many other systems in between (and skipped quite a few editions.) Getting into 5e a little the the last year.
Best/worst DnD moments to date. Specifically D&D, the best was probably a campaign where our group was being followed by an unknown creature that was nearly unbeatable. It could be "killed" but always would regenerate. A great deal of the play time was running and searching for clues about the creature. Worst was that eventually with college, moving, and jobs we never got to finish the campaign.

He is thankful for how his parents tried to keep him safe and will do anything he can to keep others safe, even if it is a nargul.
How long have you played DnD? Around a year and a half.

Born in a village of a couple dozen, he was the talk of the town, and not for any good reason. Anything that could make noise, he made noise with it. The villagers made a vow to keep any and all 'instruments' out of the village. Until one day, Byrensol came across a fancy little trumpet. And when he played, he fell in love. The sound this brass beauty made. O, everyone needed to hear it! He danced around town, playing the trumpet to his hearts content, soon dancing to the edge of the village and frolicking out of town. The townsfolk were both relieved and sad. Those last few moments of music was actually pretty good...somehow...

Best/worst DnD moments to date. : I once one shot a monster and pretty much cut an entire encounter in half. For worst, a couple of people I played with via virtual didn't bother to read fighter rules, and the dm was fairly new so he didn't know either. Long story short, read your abilities, it makes everyone happier.
Character concept: Almost forgot, but picture a mix of Viegar(League of Legends) and Shy guy from Mario. Large light-blue overcoat that drapes over and completely obscures his face, save for two glowing pink eyes and a brass trumpet that's almost as tall as him.

Name: Kathrine Westridge Class: Cleric (Peace) Race: Variant Human Stats: Ability scores: 131013121610 Flexible and concise backstory:
Kathrine grew up in a small farming village. Her young life was spent tending the fields and doing chores around her home. She was a cummly young woman and was sought after by many famlies of the area to become wife to their eldest boys. It was a foregone conclusion that she would marry one of these boys, when she was of age, and that was that.
This all changed the day the priest of Eldath (Or whatever other Peace Deity is in your world) came to the farm. They were just passing through, but wished to place the blessing of Eldath on the farm. The priest was young, only a bit older than Kathrine herself, and was a strong-willed woman, though with compassion for those around her. Kathrine was quite amazed by the priest and stayed up late speaking with the woman.
It was not long after this that Kathrine found herself moving to the temple in a larger city, several days ride from her family farm. She studies there, learning the tenants of Eldath, and how to call upon the divine gifts Eldath offered the faithful.

3. Arion is a relatively young cleric of Corellon. He is descended from ancient elven nobility, but his family is no longer considered such. Even so, he is proud of his lineage. He grew up in a small cottage in the forest, learning how to forage and fend for himself with the guidance of his parents. He was once walking in the forest, following a nargel, when he fell into a lake. He surely would have drowned if he hadn't been pulled from the water by a luminous figure. He didn't get a good glimpse of the figure, but he thought he saw silvery skin and the edge of a feathered wing. He took this as a sign he would be needed as a servant of the divine, and began studying as a cleric. He heard there was a potential job here that might involve smiting evil.

Ruz has been a member of a gang of thieves/robbers since he was quite young. He was made to feel important to the gang, as his changeling abilities gave the crew its edge. He could infiltrate escorts for bankroll wagons, and get the upper hand for an ambush, turning blame towards whichever poor sap he had replaced. The crew taught him to swing a sword, but he had a natural knack, excelling with every weapon they could put in his hands, with a leaning towards swinging them two at a time.
It all seemed great til it came out that the crew was finally starting to feel the heat... word had gotten out about the changeling. Ruz overheard them talking about turning him in for a reward, laughing as they talked. Ruz knew it was time to leave and to find a new face. To -be- someone else.
Now, he’s still a skilled cutter, so he’s looking for work that will give him a chance to change his rep before the law catches up to him. He knows enough to know you can only delay the inevitable.
Ruz detests being alone, however. Cant stand it. When left alone, he feels all the pressures and insecurity by the heap. He has gone so far as to pretend to be his own friends, just to hear what others might say about himself when they don’t think he’s around.

2 levels of starting gold with her background is 20 gold coins, as a reference.Forgoing the background-supplied starting gold for the roll. Keeping the starting equipment and still doing the trades though :)8 x 10
level 3: 12 x 10 (level 3)
(I just realized level 1 starting gold would exactly be your background starting gold, so derp)
Item Buy / Sell record:

Am I still banned from your PBPs?
Worst: As a new/inexperienced DM, I created an extremely unbalanced combat encounter for a party of low level characters. It led to a TPK— the group was not very happy (I like to think I have improved from that).
Alton Thorngage- (Klein’s One Shot String Adventure)
Holden Stonefist-(A Tale of Mercenaries)
Fenrick Wolfsbane- (Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden)

Yep, because you won’t give me a second chance. And every time I private message you, you leave. So I’m asking here.
Please move on. Plenty of other DMs and games out there. Best of luck with future adventures!

I would be interested in joining:

A lot of apps are similar in class or race. Make sure you're reading other submissions. I want a balanced party! Thank you.
Also don't forget healer classes!

Name: Kathrine Westridge
Class: Cleric (Peace)
Race: Variant Human
Stats: Ability scores: 13 10 13 12 16 10
Flexible and concise backstory:

How long have you played DnD? 20ish years.
Best/worst DnD moments to date.
Best: Running a homebrew game on this forum.
Worst: Same as best, though a different game. Might have included nargels...
The dice warning came up from me removing an extra ability score that got mistakenly put on at the top. The one in my application itself did not change with this update.
1. Wood elf Cleric
2. Ability scores: (putting in reply)

8: About 2.5 years
9: Best, the final session of my first long campaign, worst, my first time DMing (and playing)
Gold:
260
EDIT:Sorry, thought I had included the character art. I really should stop applying when I'm half asleep.
Q: Rolling 2 levels of starting GP
A: The gold would be your class level. An example of a rogue you would have 'earned' per level 4x4d x 10 per level.
Example:
Level 2 7 x 10 = 70
Level 3 11 x 10 = 110

Also no homebrew y'all. Plenty of available materials to build your PC with, thank you.

Ruz - Changeling - Fighter (champion) - Criminal
still working out the nargles/details

art is in the character sheet. I’ll try to have it all together by late tonight or early tomorrow.
14 + 14 + 15 x10
my mistake, starting gear + 2 levels, got it. Ignore the last roll
