What is the relationship between these 2 races like? I've heard conflicting information so if you know which edition it comes from and if it's been retconned over the years please reply with that as well.
I have very little knowledge of Forgotten Realms lore as I prefer other settings or to play in a homebrew one. Plus I've only been playing since the tail end of 4e.
I know of a campaign setting where a Paladin order converts, though a magical ritual, their specific Human members into golden "dragonpeople" - identical to Dragonborn. Order of the Dragon d'Or.
One of such converted members (under suspension by the Order) tried to parlay with a White Dragon who didn't have any favoritism toward the (now) Dragonborn.
So as I often state, "Go nuts." Stranger things have happened.

Human. Male. Possibly. Don't be a divider. My characters' backgrounds are written like instruction manuals rather than stories. My opinion and preferences don't mean you're wrong. I am 99.7603% convinced that the digital dice are messing with me. I roll high when nobody's looking and low when anyone else can see.🎲 “It's a bit early to be thinking about an epitaph. No?” will be my epitaph.
I love this idea! I was considering some mystic / forgotten history of my race to allow me to become a better paladin fighting for a more robust awareness and reduce class bais!
dragonborns were created by a ritual performed by wizards or hags the ritual included a dragon egg and through the ritual dragonborns were created.
That's Draconians.
Dragonborn in 5e came from Abeir. They were created when Io was cut in half, and the two halves formed Bahamut and Tiamat, and the drops of blood formed the dragonborn. At least, that is one of the stories.

It's purposefully not defined in exact terms, so that each DM has the ability to make adjustments to suit their own story.
The official detailed background for the Forgotten Realms can be found in the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide:
