New DM here, I've been prepping for my first session of D&D with some friends for end of this week. I've been going through the Handbook and DM's Guide and revising how spells work.
I'm a bit confused as to how many spells a character is allowed depending on their spell level.
So my players will all start at lvl1, I've looked at the various class tables to see how many cantrips per spell level and how many spell slots will be avialble to them. Thats all nice and clear, but whats not clear to me is if I'm level 2 for instance and I become level 3, where is it that states how many new spells I can learn? I've only found one table, I think for the fighter class that has an additional colum for 'Spells Known' that sits next to the 'Cantrips known' colum, and thats exaclty what I need. But no other class table seems to have a 'Spells Known' colum.
Not all classes have a Spells Known list because they, like druids and clerics, know all of their spells, and can prepare an amount of them stated in the Spellcasting section of whatever given class they are. They usually prepare them at the end of a long rest, meaning that they can change all the spells they can cast after every night.
Artificer, Bard, Fighter (Eldritch Knight), Ranger, Rogue (Arcane Trickster), Sorcerer, Warlock, and Wizard all have limited spells known. In each of their class pages, there should be a table that lists their level, proficiency bonus, etc. Once of the columns should be spells known. The exception is Wizard, whose spells known are limited by what is in their spellbook.
Cleric, Druid, and Paladin know all spells appropriate to their level.
After delving futher into the Players Handbook I'm starting to pick out these paragraphs that cover these things. Thanks for your summaries! Its making more sense now,
Regards,
-Peter

Is there something super obvious I've missed?
All your comments are much appreciated, thankyou!
