I am looking for help with mechanics for a Siege. My players (4 level 12’s) will be leading an army to siege a castle that’s has been taken over by cultists. They will be able to determine a plan of attack, instructing the rest of the army of what to do and how to proceed. I currently am thinking about having a crew using a battering ram to take down the front door. Having ladders they can set up to climb up the battlements. A sewer they can trudge through to sneak inside. I am looking for another option or 2 on ways to get in. I am also looking for mechanics to make each more effective. For example the battering ram they may have to fight some guards by the door, or arrows be launched at them while they are slowly knocking the door down. With the ladders maybe arrows attack them as they set up the ladder, and then have to climb up (pretty easy DC to climb it but maybe another harder check to hold on if they get hit by an arrow?) Any feedback and improvements would be greatly appreciated. I’m not very considered with time I’m anticipating this entire siege will take the better part of 2 sessions.

Unless backed by large amounts of magic, castles aren't really effective defenses against high level D&D characters. Wooden structures can be trivially razed with Fireball, stone structures do a bit better but Conjure Earth Elemental or Move Earth or Passwall or Transmute Rock are still plenty to render them irrelevant.
