I know it seem's early but my I offered a few ideas to my players and they all liked the idea of a month long short adventure that is cannon to the current campaign, so I have to start planning early! Since I'm still new to DMing I'm looking for an adventure already made that I can fiddle with. However there is A LOT of Halloween content out there and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed.
I was hoping I could get ideas of good short halloween adventures, or one-shots that I can turn into a longer story, that has been played and is known to be enjoyable. I'm looking for something that can genuinely spook, even scare, my players. Not a zombie slash fest. Something story based and intriguing with an eerie feel, but can still have some good fight moments too. I was thinking of something involving a haunted village or being trapped in a very large mansion, but I'm open to any ideas.
Edit: My players are fairly new, and will be level 7 by October.
Edit2: An Idea I had and wanted opinions on, but thought making a whole new thread would be bad.
A village where horrible things happen every night, but the next day everyone act's like nothing happened. Sort of like a scooby doo movie situation, except the townsfolk just have their memories taken so they don't remember the horrible events, some of them could also be possessed just for funsies. It can all lead up to the Death House from Curse of Strahd, which is causing the horrible events.
With this in mind it could have things like strange creatures that attack, people be brutally murdered, kidnapping, ghosts and madness, and then at a certain point in time no matter what is going on everyone passes out, then wakes up in the bed they last slept in with no memories. The PC's would all have to make a save and anyone who fails doesn't think anything wrong has happened. This could create a ticking clock sort of situation where every night spent there is guaranteed to be bad and the longer they take to figure this out the more likely someone is to get kidnapped or killed. The Death House could be either unassuming at first, and later they are told about it by the ghost children. Or, it could only exist at night, not being there during the day. So they can only try to get in by avoiding all the danger and leaving towns people to be hurt or worse.
Curse of Strahd fits the gothic horror theme of Halloween. Death House in the back of Curse of Strahd is a good one. Alternatively you could run a series of Adventurers League one shots from the Curse of Strahd season.
Ghosts of Saltmarsh, which is a series of mini adventures, also fits the horror theme.

I think Curse of Strahd might be a bit too long for just the month of October, most of my players are fairly new as well and we take a while to get through some sessions, but I have been considering using just Death House and plopping it into a creepy village with some other one shots to combine into 4-5 sessions.
I vote Curse of Strahd as well. You don't play it in it's entirety but, it does offer a lot of creepy content and encounters. It would make a great base.
"I was thinking of something involving a haunted village or being trapped in a very large mansion." This is Curse of Strahd in a nutshell.
Critical Role had a great one shot a while ago called the Song of the Lorelei, about a family of Werewolves who return to their ancestral home.
I feel like most groups probably don’t deal with Lycanthropy a lot with their PCs so maybe this would be a good opportunity to allow them to all play werewolves or vampires, or other monstrous characters.

Death House is a mini adventure in Curse of Strahd that would only take a couple of sessions. You can find it in the appendix.

I thought Death House was a lot smaller then that. I might be fine with just that then. I don't want to run the full Curse of Strahd module for a few reasons, the bigger one being they wanted this halloween event to be cannon in the current campaign and I'm not sure they would be able to get through the whole module in one month. When I run Curse of Strahd for them I want it to be the full experience so I don't want to have to cut details out to fit it as just a halloween event.
