How about using a Frog (or possibly a Giant Frog if you feel extra special) familar for stats and and saying it looks like a "baby" Tarrasque? Its too young to have all its special powrs and if it dies...it dies.

Historically, or rather mythologically, I believe smacking it in the face with a holy symbol is the tried and true method of befriending the Tarrasque. You may also need a spray bottle filled with holy water.
Also considering its a gargantuan thing and living in the earths core doesnt give lots of nutrients. Hungry boy, some random person comes up saying "Be my friend!" the tarrasque would gobble em right up!
Who said anything about “quoting a number?!?”i never tell the players the DCs for anything.
I agree that DC 25 is way too low, that’s why I suggested a series of DC 30 checks.

i guess no one explicitly said a number would be given. but why roll if the math won't work out ahead of time? 🤷🏼
I presume that a druid with a penchant for pets would have taken proficiency in Animal Handling. Right? By the 4th-Tier of play when they’re actually likely to encounter the tarrasque their bonus to that skill would be at least +10, if not up to +12 depending on if they read the right book or not. On top of that the PC can get easy access to additional bonuses like guidance, or advantage like either someone offering them Help, or simply casting enhance ability. That doesn’t include other bonuses like from magic items such as a stone of good luck (luckstone), spells such as charm monster or dominate monster, or feats like Lucky or Skill Expert. At that point, hitting a DC 30 isn’t only possible, it’s actually not even all that improbable. I’ma assume that the math is gonna work out by the time it becomes relevant. Saying they need a series of success, say 3 before they roll 3 failures for example (like a skill challenge), seems totally reasonable to me under those circumstances.

If taming the tarrasque is your One True Passion, I think it's reasonable to expect Skill Expert, for a +17 at level 17. Just adding guidance and enhance ability and you're at 87% to make a 30.

That’s about what I was thinking. I hadn’t run the actual numbers, so thank you.
Never, ever make the rolls possible; if you do that it only guarantees they'll succeed and you've got to balance all future encounters for the players riding around on a CR 30 pet tarrasque 😝
I'd have it immediately eat the druid, and you can see how they feel about it if they make it out the other end. 😈

Makes sense, it is pretty low

I agree, taming a tarrasque which can erase gods and stuff is going to be pretty hard. DC 30 may be too generous even.

Probably more than a spray bottle.

unhappy at the way in which we lost individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?
tell them you don't like features disappeared quietly in the night: provide feedback!
Because it's meant to be difficult! It's a tarrasque! they're able to kill gods! I think that deserves highly difficult skill checks.

If I was DM I’d say you need a Nat 20. Probably 2 Nat 20s. Anything above 30 though makes it tolerate you.
