Just wanted to share what I've done, in anticipation of running it for the first time.
A 6 year old I know is desperate to try D&D as it's her father's favourite activity, but I knew she wouldn't be able to follow the main game. I decided to do a bit of a mix of card game and board game to create something that she might better engage with. I've removed some of the complex maths work, such as the adding numbers to the hit roll, or damage dice, just so she has less maths to do.
All actions are on cards, so they can be easily accessed rather than ready through reams of paper, and each thing has a visual component, so for example, there is a picture of crossed swords and the type of dice which needs to be rolled, or a picture of a wand and a number in a circle to say it will use a level 1 spell slot. The character sheets are then totally visual, with the set number of hearts for hit points, or wands for spell slots, which can be crossed out as they are used.
I've decided to do it based on Disney, being as that is what she is most into, so Elsa is a sorceress, Anna a monk, Christoph a ranger, and Olaf a bard.
I'm hoping this approach will help her to join in with something that is important to her father, whilst having fun...wish me luck!
