Hi there! First post hoping for some assistance. I’ve googled and pinterested and attempting homebrewing into exhaustion. I’m looking for ideas for a Headless Horseman to run as the BBEG after my players complete their current Curse of Strahd run.
I’m going to move them onto a forest area where trade caravans, travellers and small settlements along the main road are being slaughtered. My adventurers will be compelled to investigate because reasons. It’s this Headless Horseman looking for his head. If they find him/trigger him and defeat him, he’ll just regenerate the next day. Can only truly be defeated by finding his real head/skull and interring it with his buried body. I’ve got all the RP parts in order. I just can’t find a stat block or settle on design of my own that feels right. I’ve even found the perfect mini to use for him, painted him up and ready to go (even though the party is only 11/14 of CoS complete).
Can you guys point me in the direction of your favourite Headless Horsemen stat blocks or ideas for MM, VGtE or MToF creatures to reskin? I’ve thought hard about just reskinning a Death Knight, but the party won’t be anywhere near CR17 by then. I do like the Vorpal Sword/Axe, Parry reaction and Flaming Pumpkin (mini fireball) that seems common across all the homebrews I’ve found.
I’ve only been DMing since the start of this campaign, going on a year and a half now for a party of first time players at the start of this campaign, except for one guy whose going on 20yrs experience. Thanks for your patience.

Thanks mate! I’ve seen two of those and definitely like elements of each. My main problem I have with homebrewing creatures is getting CR/balance right. I’ll keep trying though. Thanks again.

Comet Lord Miniature can hook you up, my dude! I got both the stand one Headless Horseman and the Nightmare Mounted version. Each download file even has multiple versions and stances you can choose from!
After originally trigger happy purchasing a steel mini from a military TTG company and a mounted mini from reaper that I intended to clip the head off, I ended up being unsatisfied with both of them. I did lots more research and as I was about to give up, Comet Lord released this guy. I have been an avid Patron ever since. As a side note, check out the rest of their gear too, possible the BEST Tortle representations I've ever seen

Heroforge is a definite go to for ANY minis in my point of view also. However, if you're looking for a pumkin headed one specifically, Cast'n'Play also have one called Halloween Warrior too, which is pretty cute more than sinister or unassuming. And just for prosperity, if you only have access to a FDM printer, Rocket Pig Games have a pretty good Headless Horseman file too, but I can't find the link sorry.
I specifically wanted a headless, non pumpkined, version. So more of a Dullahan (sans spine whip) I guess.

What mini did you use? Link by chance?

If you are looking for a less sinister version the options to make a pumpkin headed one exist on heroforge.
