I would love it if we could add homebrew equipment and non-magical weapons. I have a player that wants to fight with chains. We're customizing a whip, but we can't change the damage type or damage die. Also would like to add some items for alchemy and poison crafting. Some can go under magic items, but it would be so much better to be able to add these things in before a session with players instead of having them add an item and then customizing it.
Also, just start with whichever weapon already does the right damage and use that
I have done chain weapons 4 ways:
A whip with the damage switched to bludgeoning and added versatile so it could do 1d6 w/ 2 hands
as a Quarterstaff w/ added reach
as a halberd with the damage swapped to bludgeoning
As a double-bladed scimitar with reach and bludgeoning
I usually make alchemy/herbalism//poisons as potions
You do a lot of good work helping out with homebrewing. I look forward to working with you on the wiki when the next homebrew revamp is released in a decade or so.

You can change the type of damage:
Modifier: Replace Damage Type->Subtype: [Desired damage type]

Are you changing it as a magic item?
Yup. If you go here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/homebrew/creations/create-magic-item
Select a Whip, +1, and then add the following Modifiers:
Modifier: Replace Damage Type->Subtype: Bludgeoning
Modifier: Weapon Property-> Versatile
Then re-save the entire Homebrew using the main [SAVE CHANGES button under Basic Information. (Or it won’t take effect yet.)
You will end up with a +1 whip that does 1d4 bludgeoning damage when used 1-handed, and 1d6 bludgeoning when used 2-handed.

Ok. I would rather it be mundane, but I'll have to undo some of the magic item versions and rebuild them as common magic items.
Remember, a common magic item will still register as a magic item in the system for stuff like infusions, etc.

Yeah. I know. Just trying to have more non-magical items. Customizable without overcoming resistances.
