I am attempting to make a Shortsword, +1 that instead does 1d8 Force Damage, and uses intelligence instead of strength or dexterity. (Upgraded versions of this would be is a +2 short sword at 1d10, and a +3 short sword at 1d12)
I used the "Replace Damage Type" to Force, and that recognized, however the "Dice Count" - 1 "Die Type" - d8 was not. Is this intentional? Is there no way to change this? If so, would it be possible for an update to the system to allow for this? And also how would I make it use Intelligence instead of strength or dexterity (and not affect all equipped magic weapons by using the Battlesmith artificer's line, Bonus - Magic Item Attack With Intelligence)?
The replace damage type modifier is for changing the damage type of the base weapon only, none of the other settings will have an effect. For additional damage the modifier you want is Damage -> Force, then you can set your dice count and type like you expect.
As for swapping for Intelligence; I'm not sure if that's possible. To do it for a single attack most similar features use an action, but we can't add those to magic items. Otherwise you'd have to add whichever modifier Battle Smith uses to gain Intelligence scaling on magic items, but that would affect all magic items. I could be wrong though, I'm not familiar with all the modifiers.
Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.
PS- I wrote that FAQ as a comunity resource for people, so if it helped at all, even just to save you the struggle of trying to make something work that doesn’t, please vote kindly towards it in the poll. I’m hoping maybe they’ll pin that thread if it gets voted highly enough. (If they pin it then it’ll be easier for folks to find their answers faster.) Thanks.

Essentially, to all of these questions, it seems the answer is "You can't". That's sort of frustrating. Thanks for your help.
Sorry I couldn’t bring better tidings, but at least you have your answers.
