I am creating a Sorcerer Subclass and cant figure out how to add an additional known spell from his standard choices of spells (ie at level 1 can pick 3 instead of 2 spells to prepared list). This would work similarly to how the divine sorcerer gets 1 cleric spell on creation which can be changed for any spell in the cleric list, but I wanted to select it as any available 1st level spell.
Apologies if this is already answered somewhere, the solutions I have found seem to be for other known spell issues.
You can’t quite do it properly, but you can fake it to an extent. They would have to choose their additional spells in the builder instead of from the character sheet. Attached to a subclass feature you would use the Spells section and add a choice of spells. Instead of listing a specific spell (or spells) in the “Spell” field you would set up the parameters they would have to follow for their spell choice. Like this:
That👆setup would allow a PC to learn:
any 1 spell of their choice from the Sorcerer spell list
of a level that they could cast as a full caster
using Cha as the casting ability
the spell would require a spell slot to cast and could potentially be upcast
would not count against their number of known spells
and the could choose it at 1st level (provided this was a 1st level class feature)
Thank you. I did see that but couldn't see where it went into detail about increasing the amount of known spells. I've been trying to do it by creating a feature and then within that using the add a spell option. I am able to add a specific spell to always be known but not able to figure out how to just increase the "known" number from 2 to 3.
Or do I need to just change the spell within the features every time I want to change it (which would only be applicable once per level up). I was hoping to make it easier by just having the additional known on the spells section on the character sheet though.
Thank you. Guess that answers my response to the previous poster. Seems an awkward workaround for such a simple +1 to a stat but I guess they didn't want it to be too easy to just learn every spell possible with a simple tweak.
I read your FAQ when creating this so thank you for that as well.
The reason there’s no easy way to increase spells known is because WotC never designed anything that does that, so DDB never built anything that does that. Hence the jank workaround.
I’m glad you found that FAQ helpful! If you really want to thank me, please go vote in the poll attached to it and like/upvote/“thank” that post too. (Upvotes/likes are called “thanks” on DDB.) That will help raise visibility for the FAQ so others can find it more quickly and easily. I would genuinely appreciate it.

Thank you for your help.
You have to make it into options and then make it 1st level, there is a lot to go through with that, But maybe please refer to this link At Subclass & Races FAQ, at No. 1 How do Trait and Feature Options work. And at the Spells and Feat FAQ, No. 2 Feats Spoilers. (A Homebrewers’ “How-To” FAQ* - Homebrew & House Rules - Dungeons & Dragons Discussion - D&D Beyond Forums - D&D Beyond (dndbeyond.com)).

Looks like this has been broken. The fields "consumes spell slot" and "counts as known spell" have been removed. Any solution?
