Hey all!! I am working on a subclass for warlock and I wanted to publish it to the general homebrew pages. But it says:
This homebrew Subclass has data mapped to it that is licensed content or private homebrew. This typically occurs when licensed or private homebrew spells are linked to the Subclass.
Can anyone tell me what may be causing this? I have looked into the expanded spell list as well as the bonus cantrips the class earns, and neither are outside of the Basic rules, Tasha's or Xanathar's. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Below is a link to the class itself if you wanted to take a look prior to me trying to publish it.
I also get this message and have not yet found an answer to how to bypass this block. I already have a character that I created but even though I have enabled homebrew content for this character it will not let me add the subclass I have made. I know this doesn't help but at least you know you're not alone in this regard.
You can only add spells from the System Reference Document (SRD), which is anything from the Basic Rules and Elemental Evil Player's Companion. Spells from any paid source such as the Player's Handbook, Xanathar's or Tasha's Guide etc. are all considered licensed content and we currently cannot release homebrew with any kind of licensed content.
It's incredibly annoying, as I wouldn't mind if people without a player's handbook or whatever can't add my content until they get it, or if we could offer free fallbacks for any licensed content.
Depending upon what your exact goals are there may be possible workarounds; for example, if you create an Additional Spell List in a sub-class feature, you can add licensed spells to a sub-class' spell list (for the player to choose for themselves) without preventing publication, and you can mention these spells in your descriptions using the tooltips without issue (e.g- chaos bolt) so players still known what they will have access to. Thanks to naruhoodie for originally pointing me towards this workaround.
I've had to make a lot of tricky compromises in my own public homebrew; usually it doesn't affect it too much as long as I can make the spells I really want available in the spell list, but it's still annoying.
Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.
