So, I set out to create a custom feat, simple enough. Just add a set of spells ala Magic Initiate. Awesome: the existing feat system by default has a "spells" section that specifically cites Magic initiate. Cool.
Order of Operations:
- Create custom feat
- Add each of the spells under the "spells" section of the feat
- Add the feat to the character
Then I discover that... They do not behave correctly. They appear in the spells tab on the character sheet, but clearly aren't counting as known spells, more like Warlock invocations, and do not use the standard spell slot system, and cannot be up-cast (the option does not display). Instead: each appears precisely at their level, and as an "at will" spell. Double-checking the individual spell pages; there is no way to set them to USE spell slots, or anything to that effect. I'd assumed that would just be default; since there's a different tick box that says "is infinite".
Am I just dumb? Or is there some sort of setting I'm missing here? Or is this feature just broken/badly implemented?
...
Also: why does making a copy of the Eldritch Knight subclass break all of its spell casting settings?
As for what broke on Eldritch knight: making a copy of it removed everything to do with spell casting from it so that would all have to be added back on manually.
Making a copy of subclasses that give access to another class's spell list (Arcane Trickster, Eldritch Knight, Divine Soul Sorcerer, Celestial Warlock) usually doesn't copy that over correctly. To fix your Eldritch Knight, make sure that in the Basic Information, under the Description box, that you set the following fields:
Spell Casting Ability - INT
Can Cast Spells? - YES
Additional Spell List - Wizard

Yeah, this. 👆Everything else should stay attached though.

You cannot add spells through a feat that use spell slots, it’s just not currently possible.
What broke on the Eldritch Knight?

Oh; funderful. Well that's incredibly annoying.

It shouldn’t, it never has when I’ve made something based off of it as a template.
