Apologies in advance, I'm quite new to homebrewing. I've done my best to read all that I can on the subject, but am hoping someone can help me with a nudge.
Context: Custom Subclass for Monks that's a bit of a stoner. A feature is called "Mystic Smoke Arts" which is a borrowed idea.
The first custom action within Mystic Smoke Arts is called "Bad Rips". It's an ability I want to do damage equal to a roll of the martial arts die. The problem I'm experiencing is that the attack roll is adding my proficiency bonus (which I don't want to do). Can my proficiency bonus be removed from the martial arts die roll?
The Martial Arts die, as implemented in DDB, only applies to attacks and overrides the attack's normal damage die with whatever your MA die is. If you want an ability that deals raw MA damage with no attack roll, that's gonna have to be a fixed-dice Custom Action that the player remembers to modify when their MA die improves.
So I unchecked the "Affected by Martial Arts" and set "Dice Count" to 1, "Die Type" to d4 (to simulate level 3). Oddly, the spell is still adding my Wis modifier in the damage roll.
Did you set it as an Attack or Spell action? Alternatively, did you select an ability score? If the ability is scaling off Wisdom that's likely because you selected WIS in a drop-down somewhere.
I have it set as a spell but I did not select an ability score. I believe it would naturally use Wisdom because it's a Monk. But you gave me a good hint there. I changed it from Spell to General and there's no longer a bonus added!
In summary, I had to:
1. Action Type: General
2. Set a fixed Dice Count and Die Type = to my martial dice
3. Uncheck Affected by Martial Arts
4. Set Level Overrides so that the Die Type will increase to match the Monk table
If you want it to require an Attack roll, there is no possible way to do it where it doesn’t add your Ability modifier to the damage roll. If you want the feature to require a saving throw, then you have a o set it as a “general action” instead of a “spell action,” and then it’ll leave the ability modifier off of the damage roll for you. It can still use the “affected by martial arts” checkbox.

I have the action set with the following:
- Action Type: Spell
- Name: Fat Rips
- Level: 3
- Affected by Martial Arts: Checked
- Activation Type: Action
I may have been mistaken...I believe my Wisdom is being added into it (not proficiency).
