Hey Guys! I have a cool idea for an Astral Self Monk, but I read online that this subclass is rather subpar. So I came up with a couple of buffs that might help it. I just wanted to ask if these are reasonable, or if they would make the subclass suddenly too strong. These are all in addition to everything the subclass already gets.
Level 3: On a successful save, the creature takes half damage. When you attack with your Astral Arms your Martial Arts dice increase (Lv.1-4: 1d6, Lv.5-10: 1d8, Lv.11-16: 1d10, Lv.17-20: 1d12)
Level 6: Your Astral Visage also grants advantage on perception checks
Level 17: the Ki Consumption features from the UA content is returned to the subclass
Again, I don't know if these would be reasonable, maybe you could let me know :)
I’m not sure what you mean by half damage on a successful save since there’s no saving throws for anything. Having the arms damage die be bigger doesn’t make any sense. The advantage is that you gain reach, and can double down on Wis for everything.
Being able to see through magical darkness for 120 feet is no joke. And the communication options are super useful too.
When you bring out the arms creatures within a certain radius of you must succeed on a dex save or take a certain amount of force damage.
Yeah the reach is one thing, but it also said you could wrap those spectral arms around your own, which then would (logically) barely augment your reach at all. So maybe you could have the choice of attacking at reach with the arms or wrapping them around your own arms get a damage boost at normal range?
I'm unsure about your last point? Is that towards the Ki Consumption part? That would let me gain Ki points back, no lose them. Whenever a creature aroud you is reduced to 0 hit point you can regain Ki points equal to your Wisdom modifier.
Ahh. I missed the Dex save or Force damage. That’s not so bad.
Whether or not you wrap the spectral arms around your own arms is just a flavor thing, either way your reach increases.
But then you’d have to go back to the 10 Ki cost to activate the feature or it wouldn’t be balanced. That makes it way, waayyy less likely you’ll ever actually use the feature at all.
