Hey all I am looking for help on an idea I had. One of my players is a Kalashtar that has had their memories erased. During this process the connection to their quori spirit was severed and since they lost their memories they don't understand why they have the powers that they have (they are a sorcerer). Unfortunately there isn't a ton of information to pull from. I want them to eventually merge back together and give my player access to powers they haven't had in awhile. I was thinking of giving them some of the quori's abilities but the only decent one I could find was this monster:
Following that link to the kalaraq quori, if you read the description below the statblock it talks about how the quori can’t really travel the material plane easily, and usually possess someone. That person then becomes inspired. The statblock for the inspired shows what powers it gains from the possessing quari. If you read the description for the inspired below its statblock it even describes variants for it and details the wire powers as well. Check that out and I think you’ll find what you need.

I saw that, and I took a look at the variants and the one I was looking at they already possess arcane eye. I was going to use that idea when they merged back to have the spirit say something like "you have had a piece of my power the whole time" or something along those lines. But my party is a high level party (level 16). None of those spell I think would be effective at this point in the game. I was thinking of maybe unlocking features like the all seeing which basically was the alert feat but I was thinking if adding a little more but not sure what.
If you say so. 🤷♂️ I mean, gaining a free 1/day use of charm person, distant whispers, and hold person that they don’t need to spend any spell slots on is greate, especially for a sorcerer since it means being able to trade those slots for more sorcery points. And since they already chose arcane eye for their spell list themselves you know they want access to it. So gaining 3 free castings of that per day means not only do they not have to spend their 4th-level slots to cast that, they can also swap that spell out for something else if they want to when they level up which means gaining access to essentially whatever they want (within the scope of spell levels they have access to of course). Seems like a win-win. Plus, they would gain mage hand for free, so if they already have that they could swap that out too for something different upon leveling up, and they would also pick up vicious mockery, hex, and mage armor too kinda like little jimmies (or sprinkles depending on where you live) on top. (If they are still relying on mage armor then that would better another spell to swap out, and if not then whatever.) I mean, if you don’t think that’s enough, you could always do something different like you suggest like a feat or something, or just add to the list of what the inspired get. Up to you.
Lemme ask you two things:
When “the connection to their quori spirit was severed,” did they loose any of their Kalashtar racial traits? If not, then they truly “have had a piece of [its] power the whole time.” So whatever they get is just extra stuff above and beyond what they would normally have.
Assuming that this is gonna be extra stuff for them, then what extra stuff have you given or will be giving the other PCs to make things fair for everyone…? Because whatever it is, the extra stuff they all get should all be roughly around the same power level. So if the others have already gotten their extra stuff then keep whatever you give the Kalashtar PC about the same in terms of power. And if you haven’t given the others anything extra like this yet, then whatever you give this Kalashtar you’re gonna hafta match for the others, so keep it reasonable so you don’t set too much of a precedent that you’ll have to match a few more times. See what I’m sayin?

The connection wasn't severed completely she had her kalashtar abilities but didn't know why. The story is that she was experimented on by this vampire to try to make her into a true vampire. During the process she died and the vampire left her there thinking that the experiment failed. Days later she awoke with 0 memories of who she was. She adopted a temporary name was able to survive on powers she didn't even understand.
In terms of weapons others have gotten most of the party has legendary grade items or artifacts at this point (mostly homebrewed by me). One has a great axe that has a hammer on the other side that when they swing it it can cast dispel Magic based on their strength. Another has a sentient sword that levels up as they find missing pieces to it. One has a dragon Halberd that absorbed magic from a dragon hoard. Another rolled so high that they managed to get the parts to craft a belt similar to a belt if storm giants. So they have some fun stuff.
I'm thinking the way to go might be feats like you suggested. Other than alert what great do you think might work here?
I'm an Eberron DM, the setting where the Kalashtar and Quori originated from...
I would think that you might create custom feats that enable any power that features (soft) mind powers or dreams. This may include:
dream travel
dream shaping
various emotion control
psychically resistant mind (resistant to charms/fears etc)
telepathy
psychic or dream scrying
charm
fear
ability to possess a body (this is a special ability that would require psychic contests or battling. An inspired body is specifically groomed to be subjugated by a quori and are vulnerable to possession but they also are possessed so much that they share the same world view as the possessing quori...so resistance is non-existent. I can see where you may create an adventure around finding former inspired hosts...can you imagine your player being able to jump from body to body like in Quantum Leap)

I like the resistant mind, but I especially love the dream scrying especially because I pictured her Quori to have a lot of eyes but not be insect like. Would you think it would be too much to modify the possession ability to be rather than possessing another creature my PC could give more control to the Quori so that their powers merge more and she can use some of its monster abilities for a round or two?
They all get innate psionic spells, resistance to psionics, and the possesion ability.
I would consider starting them off with a more psionic feature (subtle spell for the sorcerer), later let them develop resistance, and finally at higher levels get a possesion type ability.

That would make sense.
Alright I made a monster version of the creature for the party to fight. This will be so that the creature (in the story will be called Pamelk) and try to awaken some memories from the PC through combat. The reason is because when they were as one before the incident, they were a part of a secret faction called the Shadow Walkers who's job it was, was to protect the city and its people from behind the scenes so that people didn't know what was really going on. During that the PC went out on their first mission and succeeded, but a vampire took advantage of her tired state and captured her turning her into a vampire through experimentation (true vampire not a minion). Thinking the experiment failed they left her there "dead." When she awoke she had 0 memories and lost contact with her spirit (with her memories gone she lost her connection to it). Without her knowing the spirit was still helping her by providing her with spells and abilities that she "naturally" learn on her own (she is a sorcerer).
There is one thing I am thinking of adding in that I didn't really think about until as I was typing this out. She has a thing for fire based abilities and I didn't put any fire abilities in there like dark fire or sunburst. Do you think that would be worth putting in there as a 1/day spell on the monster for when the party fights them?

Well, if you want to go with feats, the Telekinetic and Telepathic feats come to mind.
