I don't know how to set this Trait to work easily.
The Idea of the Trait is that:
I get Mushroom Charges: You have a number of mushroom charges equal to your Wisdom modifier + 1 per 2 levels.
Then I can do this:
Mushroom Growth: As a bonus action, you can expend a mushroom charge to cause mushrooms to grow from your body. The mushrooms can be any size or shape you choose, but they must not exceed your height. The sizes of mushrooms can be small (1d4 necrotic damage), medium (1d4+2 necrotic damage) and large mushroom (1d4+4 necrotic damage).
The necrotic damage is self-damaged as I rip the mushrooms from my body. Recharge: You regain all of your mushroom charges when you finish a short or long rest.
I don't know how to make the Mushroom Growth use the mushroom charges as a resource.
PS: The idea was to make this work similarly to how Symbiotic Entity (from Druid Circle of Spores) uses wild shape as the resource.
Well, I’m not entirely sure what the point of the trait is, but you would implement that all as an Action attached to the trait, and give it Limited Uses. Those would represent the “charges,” and then, presuming those charges could be used to do more than that you would attach separate Actions for their uses. Whenever the player would use one of those Actions, they would simply need to manually check off the charges. You can learn all about how to set up the Action with Limited Uses in the Homebrew Subclasses & Species FAQ, question #4: (https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/131411-a-homebrewers-how-to-faq#HomebrewSubclasses&SpeciesFAQ).
