Please give me some constructive feedback so I can make sure the final versions of both spells are the best they can be before I give them to that one Paladin-forever friend who's always wanted more Smites.
I like both of them! I think that the healing smite should be a higher level or deal less damage. Currently, the healing smite does the same amount of radiant damage as vampiric touch does total damage and you can heal other people with it as well. I would make it a 3rd level spell, and even then it's a bit strong. Maybe make it deal 2d6 instead. Additionally, make the additional damage for the striking smite equal to half of the lightning damage dealt, and probably remove the "plus your spellcasting modifier" because there's basically no spell that does that and it's kinda overpowered. So, overall, a power decrease is required.

I'm just your everyday dungeon master. Ignore that jar full of souls. And those bones in the corner are just props, don't worry. I'm definitely NOT a lich. Definitely.

Removing the Spellcasting modifier from Striking Smite is definitely something I was already considering since very few spells can do that.
As for Healing Smite v Vampiric Touch, I've always though Vampiric touch is way too weak. Like I know it's a concentration spell that you can use over and over without spending another spell slot, but needing concentration is still a huge ask. So I don't think it's a good comparison. I want the spell to be GOOD, and trying to make it equal to Vampiric Touch without the ability to use it multiple times for the cost of 1 slot would make it terrible.
As for the healing amount, right now at 2nd Level it's roughly equivalent to a Greater Potion of Healing when the target is Bloodied. Sure you get 3d6 extra damage on your attack, but you're still giving up your bonus action and a 2nd Level spell slot or higher on a Paladin who doesn't have that many.
What do you think about 3d4 with 4d4 being the Bloodied healing? That's an average of 10 HP of healing and 7.5 extra damage. Weaker, but not useless.

Fair point, I always forget that vampiric touch is able to be reused for 1 minute. You're right, keep it how it is.

We have a lot of Smite Spells, but we've always been missing two kinds of spells in this family:
It just feels wrong, even if WotC has a good reason. So I made them myself.
Healing Smite

Striking Smite
