As far as I know you can't. For example I wanted to homebrew a chain whip. I wanted to use the standard whip as a base. The standard whip being slashing but wanting a chain whip to be bludgeoning. Tried every modifier but after some research they don't allow it so I used a club as a base and just added the reach and other properties.
Also. There is an official sword, I think called the sun sword. I think it may also be radiant. See if you can use that weapon as template and reverse engineer it, seeing how the devs created it to now use those modifiers for your own item?
Also.. following just in case someone has another suggestion
so, were you able to change damage type? I can't tell from the post. I think you don't need the apostrophes over dismissed.. The game uses the term exactly as you do without them, think familiars or bonded weapons (like warlock pact of blade) that does the same thing. Usually adding apostrophes means your indirectly implying something else. More over, most dismissals are usually done as a bonus action (or even other features. A lot of magic swords give off or extinguish a magical light as a bonus action too). You simply state that it's a command. Does that mean it's a free action or should it be a bonus action in line with similar features?
Also, I think a 'year of training' may be really, really, really long. If your character finds or obtains an item they'll be antsy enough to wait until a short rest to attune to it (at most).. To now wait a year? excuse me, but that actually sounds a bit absurd.
Also, based off of your base weapon, all this homebrew weapon looks like on the surface is an auto rifle +1 that can be shunted into another dimension. Your write some lore about it being some sort of outer dimensional crystal that shoots multiple laser.. What does that mean exactly? More so, what does that mean mechanically?
If you wanted to make the player able to choose what damage type, what would you do?
Ask them what damage type they want and make that one. The only way to actually give them a choice is to make one version of the weapon for every damage type and let them choose the version they want when adding it to their character sheet.
Making a magical weapon and want to modify the damage type from piercing to radiant. Currently using longbow as base weapon.
Any way to modify this?
Thanks.

Thank you for your suggestion. Here's the link of the weapon I made - https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/594799-korosintl

Add a modifier to the weapon. Under the "modifier type" dropdown, pick "replace damage type."
Oh nice. How would I also turn it into a Monk Weapon? (Allow it to scale with unarmed strikes?)
I don't know that you can make it a monk weapon, unfortunately.
Add a modifier to the weapon. Choose the "damage" modifier, then choose the "unarmed strike" sub modifier.

Trying to make a halberd that does 1d12+str damage of any type selected after a long rest and struggling, how would I do this if it is possible?
I've edit the modifier to "replace damage type" and it still won't display properly. Am I missing something?
Did you list the preferred damage type as the Modifier Subtype? Did you re-save the base item after adding the Modifier?

Yes, I have. I've been trying to modify a heavy crossbow to have 3d10 piercing versus it's original 1d10. However it won't display properly
Oh, ahh. You don’t want to replace the damage type at all, you want to change the weapon’s base damage. Please see the Homebrew Items & Equipment FAQ, question #1: (https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/131411-a-homebrewers-how-to-faq#HomebrewItems&EquipmentFAQ).
