I have an item I am currently trying to implement in D&D Beyond that does the following:
"You have a +1 bonus to attack rolls made with this magic weapon, and it deals an additional 1d4 fire damage on a successful hit."
I have the additional fire damage added as a modifier, that was simple enough.
However, I cannot seem to figure out how to add a +1 to attack rolls made with this weapon without granting unintentional bonuses in other attacks or damage. I see that all +1,+2 etc. weapons use the "Bonus - Magic" modifier with a fixed value depending on the bonus. I would use this, but it also adds a +1 to damage, which I don't want.
Is there a modifier that I could use for this magic item to give a +1 to attack rolls made only with this magic item?
There is not a modifier for that yet. The modifiers that exist are needed for official content. No official content has raised weapon hit or damage independently of the other (except spells which don't effect the character sheet).
likewise would be useful to have as playing with idea of "master crafted" items....so they give a bonus of +1 to hit due to quality of the craftmanship
I'd really like to have a few items that would require different + hit numbers and + damage numbers without having to tell my players "You need to manually subtract 1 from your damage" or "you need to manually add 2 to your damage".
The only way I found to work this...in 2020...is to click on the item when it is equipped to a character and select the drop down for "customization" and increase the "to hit" and "bonus damage" blocks to the desired bonus you want the item to have.
This is sad... ive been tracking issues like this since 2017.
Wanting to create a magic weapon that is +1, +2 or +3 that ALSO has 1d6 fire on it, is not this vastly uncommon concept. The fact that the creation tool doesnt really support this needs to be fixed.
I found a way that doesn't add it to the actions part itself, but it shows a +X beside the button for damage. Lets say you want to create an item that does +3 damage. Go into modifiers, then in the first slot do damage, then whatever type of damage it deals, then in the fixed value, type 3. It will look like this. [1D4 + 4] +3 piercing, finesse, thrown etc.

I just ran into this very same problem. I want to give the players some loot that's better than a standard weapon, but not a +1 magic item. After several failed attempts as finding modifiers for this in the Homebrew item creation, I found this post that confirmed that it does not work :(
I made a copy of Battleaxe +2 and looked at how the magic weapon was created. I added it to the character sheet and it added the damage and hit modifiers.
Using the same format on a creation of my own... nothing! It seems like you can only have 1 magic bonus from a homebrew item.

Am I wrong here?
You can definitely have 2 different +X weapons and both of them will get their respective modifiers.
To be clear: did you put a number in the "fixed value" field of the "magic" modifier? Did you equip (and attune if required) the second weapon? And you aren't expecting the magic modifiers to apply to weapons other than themselves are you? Because that is not what it does.
I have managed to create such item with 2 modifiers:
Bonus - Magic with Value 1 - This increases both attack and damage by 1
Damage - Melee Weapon Attacks with value -1 - this decreases damage by 1
Resulting item gives +1 to attack. This should work both on a single weapon or on a item that increases it in general for the character (which is what I did). I hope that is what you were looking for here.

Unfortunately, while that may look correct if you only have the homebrew weapon equipped, equipping it will cause any other melee attack weapons to do 1 less damage.

Sadly, the only way I could was to customize it once the item was created.
Add the item to your inventory and equip it.
Once equipped customize it by clicking on it and clicking the pencil symbol by the name of the item. You will see an option for 'To Hit Bonus', click in the box (the up and down arrow doesn't seem to work) type in one. It will add a +1 to attack bonus.

This is how I've been getting around it since posting this thread way back when.
The custom modifiers in the character sheet have been a godsend, but I'd love to see the homebrew system have more flexibility.

I too would like this as well to be added. Would also be nice to have the ability to change the damage multiplier as well for like a cursed item.

This REALLY needs to be added.

You can easily make a weapon that adds 1d6 fire damage and +N to hit and damage. It takes two simple modifiers.

This thread was asking about attack rolls.
But yeah, that works for damage.
oh, my mistake. I should have read it more thoroughly.

Hey DxJxC,
I went back to check it and it worked. Maybe D&D Beyond takes a while to get the item in the system before it will effect character weapon stats?
I am not sure, but it is now working!
Also to answer, yea - the value was in the fixed value box, the weapon was attuned and the effects were for the weapon itself.
Thanks for the reply!
