Hello. I'm a fairly new player to DnD and this is my first time posting to this site. I've been really interested in the Phoenix Soul UA class ever since I saw it, but was always super underwhelmed by it, particularly the whole "You get to have a subclass once per long rest" aspect of it. For this homebrew, I asked a friend of mine with much more experience in this sort of thing for help, and combined a bunch of different bits and pieces from different revisions of this class I found across the web. This revision as a whole had two goals in mind:
1. Make the subclass feel like a real pyromancer, with full control over fire, and not just a caster who shoots out slightly stronger fire spells every now and then. 2. Rather than focusing on making the Mantle of Flame available more often to resolve the "You only have a subclass once per long rest" issue, I tried to focus on giving the class some utility outside of mantle, and then focused on making it stronger so that the rare uses of it feel much more impactful, and make the feature feel like a real "Super Mode" rather than just an arbitrary buff (though I still bumped it up to twice per long rest). 3. Play up the "reckless firestarter" aspect of the flavor, and create a sort of "Suicide Bomber" playstyle, built around setting yourself on fire, running into a pack of enemies, setting them on fire, force them to focus on killing you to make the fire stop, burning themselves in the process, then when they finally kill you, you explode back to life and run away while your party cleans up and heals you.
Also, I should mention that this subclass was made with a specific future character in mind, which is meant to be a 19/1 or 18/2 Sorc/Fighter mutliclass, so while I made an effort to make the class work as a pure single-class build, certain aspects of it will probably work better on a gishy character.
It's a really interesting idea. what race were you looking to pair it up with?
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
" The Shadow Monarch is the ultimate expression of a "One Man Army" even in a team Setting his minions would act as meat shields for the allies while going on the Offensive, maybe in future version I will develop tactics and formations for the minions so the minions and party won't easily be decimated by random monsters or even the character's current enemies."
My only suggestions are to make the damage to a creature damaging you a reaction –otherwise, I see that as an ability that might overshadow other players– and when you say “you can add your Charisma modifier as fire damage“ you should say “you can add your Charisma modifier to the damage roll.”
"The relevant equation is: Knowledge = power = energy = matter = mass; a good bookshop is just a genteel Black Hole that knows how to read." - Terry Pratchett
That bit about rolls was actually intentional, because the idea is that at level 18, the damage boost would be added to the class features (most of which happen not during your turn), but none of those actually use dice rolls for damage.

Instead of “to the damage rolls” perhaps “to the damage” it’s a small difference but the fire damage is already implied when the spell deals fire damage and the phrase “as fire damage” feels clunky.
You could also do “you deal additional fire damage equal to your Charisma modifier.”

I welcome any feedback or criticism on this.

This a wonderful revision of the subclass!

@Astromancer
Thanks a lot!

@HaseoYamazaki
Current idea is an elf or half elf because I wanna use the Double Bladed Scimitar
