My character just got her vestige exalted, and its a homebrew item based off of the Dragon Masks from "Hoard of the Dragon Queen" or "Rise of Tiamat". The item gives a legendary resistance once a day, as well as damage absorption ("You have damage resistance in line with the choice of dragon currently attuned to. If you already have damage resistance to that damage type from another source, you gain immunity to that damage type. If you already have immunity to that damage type from another source, you regain hit points equal to half of any of the damage type you are dealt.") but I cant figure out how to add these features to a homebrew item. So is it possible to add these features, and if so how?
If you have access to the masks on here you can create a copy and see what modifiers they use for those features and then replicate for your homebrew.

So I know that thread is really old but instead of making a new one, Im having the same issue. I even 'reversed' engineered a dragon mask. It just grants resistance. Theres no modifier or conditional modifier. Do you know if there's a work around or possible way to get it done?
Temporary effects and provisional effects are not supported on DDB. The reason the mask only has the resistance is because it’s the only permanent buff.
For something temporary like a Legendary resistance, all you would do is add the number of charges equal to the number of Legendary Resistances and explain the rest in the text. All the player has to do is check off the charge to track the use and not record damage. Nothing here is automated or anything, and nothing anyone does anywhere else can directly affect the character, so there’s no need for any actual mechanics to prevent said damage.
For something provisional, like “if you already have X you get Y instead would require two versions of the item, one that grants X, and the other with Y.

So thats what I did for legendary resistances.
The stacking elemental resistance is what I'm trying to achieve. I mean there is a precedence, I dont remember exactly which but I remember a (sub)class feature or feat or something granting expertise in a skill OR proficiency if you don't have it yet. (unless I'm remembering it wrong. I could've also sworn there was a ring or something that stacks poison resistance. Don't get me wrong, the simplicity is amazing but the lack of stacking certain things can be underwhelming.
There are no homebrew modifiers that stack resistance into immunity, which is why the masks don't do this. They could have masks just add the immunity, but this isn't done because immunity will be much less likely. The idea is the masks give resistance and if you already have it you can give yourself immunity as needed by just customising your sheet (click under defenses, then customise).
