I'm trying to make a magic item and I've used a boomerang as the base object, but I keep running into this problem of that this modifier doesn't work. At least not fully. I can change the type of damage the boomerang can do, for instance from bludgeoning to force to back to bludgeoning again, but not the number of dice and what kind of dice. Can someone help me out here please?
It isn’t. The modifier explicitly says “replace damage type” which it does. You yourself stated that it successfully changed bludgeoning damage to force damage. Neither that modifier, nor any other currently existing modifier can change base dice count or base die type.
ah, right. well i'm an idiot lol. thank you IamSposta
Not at all. This question comes up a lot. Apparently they are working on a function that will allow us to create homebrewed non-magical items which would by necessity require us to be able to adjust base damage like that, but no ETA on how long.
And as Wysperra mentioned, there is a modifier to add additional damage, but the dice roller is still in its experimental phase so it currently lacks the capacity to actually combine them into a single roll. The best you could do is have extra damage listed next to the base damage as a reminder for the player to roll that separately.
That sounds like a good idea, granted the things I make are just for fun and because I'm bored so not sure if they'll ever be in a game lol, anyways thank you IamSporta & Wsperra

It is not currently possible to alter base damage on weapons.

then why is this an available option in the modifiers list?

You do have the ability to add bonus to-hit and bonus damage - either whole numbers or added dice.

That'll be cool once it ever properly comes out.

This would be really nice. That is something I was trying to do as well, until I figured out it wasn't an option...
