You find a copse of trees near a rock formation, enough space to hide the horses and the company.
Even the less perceptive among you can make out the thud of hoofbeats and the jangle of gear, and it's not long until a company of heavily armored soldiers in full armor pound along the roadway on large warhorses. There's around twenty in plate armor, and they are trailed by a string of remounts and packhorses tended by hostlers. They wear matching tabards, gold and blue, and one of them towards the front carries a pike with a flowing pennant streaming from it, a field of blue rimmed in gold, with a serpent rippling as they approach.
Weaponry close at hand, though not drawn, seems to tend towards heavy crossbows, greatswords or longswords, shields and lances, though the latter are mostly being transported on pack animals to the back.
They are a few hundred feet from your position at this point, and don't look to be slowing.

You'd recognize the insignia and general outfitting as them likely being knights, serving under Duke Terthek. The Foundry has taken the field against them in the past, they tend to be well trained and professional. Given the destination in the letter from the Foreman, it seems unlikely that you are marching out to face Terthek's forces to the north.

Ayen obeys the commander's orders and waits at the side of the road, not trying to hide in the perfect spot he found. Just in case, however, he imbues his staff with magic. It won't hurt to be prepared.
As Storm had mentioned find a spot to setup an ambush and there was a decent copse of trees nearby, going along with my earlier statement about moving to the flank Bryn has hidden in ten copse but at the edge of the group.
((Ok, cool. I just wanted to make sure I had things clear.))
The first rider to crest the rise and spot the party stopping for lunch pull out a horn and sounds a few sharp notes, the company of knights slowing a bit. Three of them warily approach your unit's general position, but keep their distance, hands resting on heavy crossbows, but not pulling them free just yet. The rest of the company seems wary as they begin to cross where an ambush would spring, if you were to do so.

Patter's got his mental bond up with those hiding, as well as the Captain. "Let's hold and watch. No need to spring any trap unless they force the issue. Our business is elsewhere."
Storm nudges his mount out a few steps to meet the three knights as they ride forward. "Just travelers on the road today friends." Storm says as he gives them a nod of greeting. "Unless you make this something more, we have no issue with you traveling the same road as us."
Verne tends to the horses of those that have dismounted. It is a habit he finds hard to break. He was the Stableboy after all. He uses the mass of the horses to try and keep his blueness away from the eyes of the approaching knights. No point drawing more attention than necessary.
Storm gives a mocking bow as he guides his horse the few steps backward to his soldiers. "Wouldn't wish to mess with the Duke's business." He says as the soldiers and knights move pass them.
Your manners earn you a scowl, the spokesman for the knights looking between you and the column that is now past your position. He sighs.
"If you're headed north, you best know the Askfott have moved down on some of the homesteads and villages. We'll be driving them back to their hills, but there's like to be refugees heading for Hareford. Food and lodging will be in short supply in the area, if you don't have provisions. If want to avoid all that, best be heading south. Good day.", he says with a nod.
"Passive" History or a check above 12:
You're pretty sure the Askfott are giants.
"Passive" History or a check above 15:
The Askfott 'clan' are hill giants that normally stay to the foothills, but occasionally due to overcrowding, scarcity of game in the hills, or under the sway of a particularly ambitious leader, they have descended on 'civilized' lands. The Foundry actually took contract to drive them back, maybe thirty years or so ago, long before most of your time, but it's a campaign that some of the lifers would occasionally reference.
((Above 20 may get something further.))

Rusty grunts, and attempts to hunker down so he’s less noticeable. In fact, the difference is what’s not noticeable.

BB's position is front and center, but he doesn't want to get run down so he places himself accordingly.
"Hold." Storm whispers to the others. "Let them pass if that is their wish, if they turn to engage, then do not hold back."

(I thought those who were good at hiding were going to hide, and the others would stay with the horses and pretend like they were stopping for lunch?)
Keller definitely hides. Stealth: 24

"Halt. That's far enough, friend. Keep yours where they are and we've no quarrel. Interfere, and you meddle in the Duke's business."
They grip crossbow stocks, and a few is the others look in your direction as they pass.
