Mhurn and Atala look at each other uncertainly. Atala then replies, "I suppose we could help you, though I doubt we'll be very useful in a fight." They follow along behind the group.
OOC: The river is south of the back door. There is a wall which could be used for cover, and the smoke would make it hard for enemies to notice people approaching. The second group is patrolling around the building.
Valas suggests to the newcomers "the smallest of distractions against a foe could prove helpful, whether it be a feint with a weapon or something as simple as a toss of a stone." "The different between a proper strike and a parried attempt is that of a blink of one's eye."
(OOC: Roughly suggesting the Help Action if they are sub par statistically.)
"Yes, good thinking Kosef and Valas, perhaps you two..." turning to Mhurn and Atala "...could make a flanking maneuver to the east of the temple and draw their attention? There is obviously townsfolk trapped inside the temple. We should strike fast and hard against the group by the back door and try to get the townsfolk out that way and escape the way we came back to the keep. Any questions?" Evendur looks around the companions for agreement or other plans, which he would happily go along with by the way. Evendur initiative:19
Atala and Mhurn nod in agreement with Valas and Evendur's words. "We can makes distractions for you," Atala says. Atala and Mhurn draw their weapons, waiting for further orders from their new allies.
OOC: They will help whoever follows them in the initiative order. I will make it clear who that is when everyone has rolled initiative.
"I hope we can get everyone out before the patrol comes around again to the back door of the temple," Kosef says, "but I don't have any better ideas myself. The distraction will help. I say we make the effort, keeping our promise to the governor." He is ready to attack those trying to get in the back door of the temple, once there is a consensus. He also wonders about Leosin. He could be inside. Another ally would be a good thing.
"Agreed, I think that would be best Kosef," Kipio says with a nod. He readies his scimitar rather than a flame to keep away unwanted attention. He would prefer that none of these cultists and kobolds leave the town alive.
When everyone seems ready Evendur quickly hops over the wall and, as silently as he can, strides into the group of raiders by the back door, swinging at the closest kobold.
Athletics to climb the wall if needed:18
Longsword:23 Damage:9
and then tries to swat the closest raider to the ground with his shield for Valas to take advantage of:23

Kendes focuses once again first on the kobolds that he can reach if possible, deeming them to be the greater danger in numbers than their human counterparts.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kosef joins the attack, aiming for necks. He will follow Kendes's strategy and start by attacking the closest hostile kobold.
Attacking with surprise:18 to hit for 13 damage (GWM BA if necessary, targeting the next closest kobold in range: 17 to hit for 10 damage.
First round after the surprise:25 to hit for 9 damage (GWM BA if necessary, targeting the next closest kobold in range: 7 to hit for 9 damage.
As he attacks, he suddenly wonders how they will convince those inside to let them in. Hopefully someone they know is inside . . . Or maybe Atala can vouch for them . . .
Valas moves in towards the nearest foe, flourishing his sword with another boom of magic. He gives a nod of appreciation to Mhurn for the help by the time he makes a second attack.

Round 1: Booming Blade Attack: 12 Damage: 11 Thunder damage if he moves: 6
Evendur presses on to the back door, a bit unused to being able to keep up with his swift companions, and thrusts his blade at a still standing kobold.
Longword:20 Damage:11 and then strikes the closest standing raider with his shield:25
Confident in his companions ability to finish the battle without him Evendur then moves close to the back door and speaks as loud as possible without alerting the other raiders.
"Listen townsfolk, I am Sir Evendur Archebolde and I have been sent here with my companions by mighty Torm and your Governor Nighthill to take you and your priest safely back to the keep. I know you have no reason to trust me, but I can only hope for a leap of faith. Please make your decision quickly as I am afraid the raiders will launch a counter attack against our position by the back door before long."Persuasion to convince people supposedly inside the temple to come along quickly:15

The raiders fail to notice seven people approaching them through all their smoke. Evendur quickly deals with one kobold, while Kendes takes out two. Kosef beheads one kobold, but his second target is quick, and ducks beneath the sword. Valas attacks a human, and swiftly ends his life. Kipio slashes at a human.
Attack: 22 Damage: 9
Evendur slashes at a kobold, and it drops limply to the ground. Valas finishes off Kipio's wounded foe. Kendes is able to take down another kobold with his spear, but only manages to injure the human near it. Kosef gives Kendes a hand though, and removes the last raider's head with a powerful stroke.
Time Elapsed: 24 seconds (2 rounds of fighting + talking to the door + debating at the door)
Mysterious Number: 25
Evendur (and others standing near the door) can hear voices inside. They sound nervous. One says "He said Torm. Kobolds don't worship Torm." "Maybe it's a trick", says another. "He could be a raider. A lot of them are human." A third voice says, "He used the governor's name! The governor probably sent him." The voices seem uncertain. Finally, someone opens the door, and Evendur is able to see a group of about thirty scared humans, and one calm half-elf who is speaking comforting words to a terrified human child. The people are nervous, and seem unwilling to take action. The sound of a battering ram can be heard, coming from the front door.
OOC: Someone can say something to help Evendur out.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
A sigh of relief when the door opens, and then Evendur continues.
"Now please follow your priest in an orderly fashion over the wall and down to the river, follow the river due west and turn north by the keep and we will lead you to a secret tunnel taking you safely inside the keep. Go quickly, I will hold them here and catch up later, now go and Torm will watch over you" A new persuasion to get people going:11 (OOC: Meh, sorry, more help please)
Assuming his companions help with convincing the townsfolk to get moving, Evendur then moves inside the temple looking for a way to block the front door buying the townsfolk some precious time. Perception to find something to block front door:22
Valas steps up and proclaims "I am Valas Tethras of House Tethras of the elven realms of Cormanthor, and I assure you I am no ally of the chromatic wyrms! Sir Evendur speaks only truth, and this is likely your only chance to get out of here. Eadyan, the Governor has need of you at the keep as well."
Panting from the fight, Kendes approaches the door. "Please," he tells the townsfolk still milling about. "You must flee while you can. They will break through the door any minute now, there is no time to waste." He looks behind him at Atala and Mhurn, and gestures at them. "Some of you might recognize them as traders who come to your town regularly. Please, we're here to help and can lead you to safety."
(help action for persuasion no. 2)
After he says his piece, Kendes puts himself between the frightened townspeople and the door, pulling out his crowbar and wedging in between the bars to provide additional resistance.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kosef sees Kendes, Valas, and Evendur effectively gather the people in the temple. He remains outside it, watching around the corner or curve that the patrol is likely to come from.
"Yes," he says, "you must must hurry now. Now," he says. He twists his hands tight around the pommel of his sword, listening for footsteps from the direction of the patrol, Perception: 18. He hopes an ally is close. Kipio?
Kosef does not hear the sound of the patrol. They do not seem to be nearby. The townsfolk start to move towards the exit, finally convinced that the strangers are there to help them. When Valas says the name Eadyan, the half-elf gets up and walks over to him. He holds out his hand and says, "I'm Eadyan. I appreciate what you are doing for us." He then beckons at the others and proceeds towards the back door.
The door is starting to break. There are cracks large enough to see through, and the excited voices of kobolds can be heard. Kendes' crowbar helps hold it together, but it will not last forever.
