Maudath clenches a fist, his first instinct to knock the look off Huarwar's face. Instead he flexes the fingers of the hand a couple of times and then turns away from Huarwar.
He looks down at Eve and the Professor through clenched teeth.
"I'm going outside before I start something that brings the garrison down on us," Maudath says. He starts to leave the room, but then stops and leans down closer to Eve and the Professor and continues in a quieter voice. "Cora said something about the black ice, didn't she? Maybe the kid knows more than he told his mom."
As Maudath walks past, Eve whispers, “Take Ipkiss with you”, exactly as the tiny, invisible devil perches on the goliath’s large shoulder. “If you need us, or vice versa, we can get word to one another. (I know what he knows)…”. The last bit, little more than a breath from her lips.
She puts a hand on Maudath’s arm as he passes, then turns to face the boy. In a conversational tone, she asks him in a light, playful voice, “What brought you here? How did you make the castle here your home?… We are just visitors here yet, but we.. like what we see so far...”.
Eve walks towards the boy, but meanders across and around the room, both taking him in, and her surroundings ((is there any black glass out on show or is he wearing it or any necklace?)).
"When I was back in Bremen all my life was is clean this, take this. That woman that used to be my mother didn't appreciate me but my family here sees me for what I can do. When Kadroth and Fel over there " he points to the other red tiefling that is now leaning against the far wall "came it was like I finally found my place, they understood the voice I had been hearing and helped me to find my place with the chosen of Lord Levistus. My life before this means nothing to me now."
He looks over to Fel standing against the wall and she nods so he pulls out a pendant, black as night and smooth as glass, from under his tunic. He doesn't remove it from around his neck but hold it out towards you.
He seems genuinely confused by your statement "Of course I'm here by choice. I would have died if not for Lord Levistus. He showed me the path and finally gave my life purpose beyond serving people at that smelly bar. I would rather die than go back to that. If you do return tell the woman that used to be my mother that her son is dead."
Maudath goes back out on to the wall and lets Ryhunis and Iris (can't remember if she's still with us) know what's going on.
"They all seem cheery and bright," Maudath says. "But the fact they keep the townspeaker hidden away somewhere, and that the servant girl is scared to death of them means they're not the heroes this town needs."
He looks around the walls and down into the courtyard and up at the other tower opposite the one they're staying in, looking for somewhere that would make sense to keep a hostage or two.
"Notice anything with those devil eyes of yours?" Maudath whispers to his shoulder and Ipkiss.
The boy makes a dismissive face. "That old woman means nothing to me now. If she sent you here you've wasted your time. My family is here."
Maudath clenches a fist, his first instinct to knock the look off Huarwar's face. Instead he flexes the fingers of the hand a couple of times and then turns away from Huarwar.

”Oh!… Show me the black glass!… I’ve heard so much about it. I have to see it!”. He black eyes shine with desire.

The Professor peers closer, mentally comparing it to the ones removed from the duergar corpses.

Professor: its appearance seems to match that of the one you took from the duergar, but its shape is different
He nods to you Eve
The Professor narrows his eyes at the fellow allowing Eve to touch it. At the first sign of it affecting her, he'll pull her back.

Professor you don't perceive anything out of the ordinary
Eve looks up from the gem to Huarwar, “It’s a beautiful piece. Very beautiful…”. She hands it back.
Then she looks earnestly into Huarwar's eyes, and speaks to his heart, “I’ve seen inside... I understand…”.
”I understand the need for like minded companions. For friends, and for support… For safety…”.
”Can you tell me honestly that you are safe and well, and here of your own free choice?…”

Then she asks, “What is your purpose, Master Huarwar?…”.

Eve nods and looks round to the Professor and the others with a slight shrug.

”Who are they holding??… The town master? Why do we think that again? Are they missing? Are they definitely… here?… In this castle?…”.
