The Circle of Hedgehogs Druid Beholder/Animated Armor Level -20 Bardof the OIADSB Cult, here are our rules.Sig.Also a sauce council member, but it's been dead for a while.
Janek Whitmor was born in a small, somewhat remote village. He lived there with his mother, older brother, and older sister. When he was nearly two his parents left the village on a journey. His mother returned four months later, but his father did not. Janek overheard whispers from other family members that the father had disappeared in the Shadowfell. He never did get anything near a full story though.
Six months later, when Janek was still two, his younger sister was born. During the time since his mother had returned she had seemed different – quieter and certainly mourning her husband. Soon after the birth of baby girl, the mother suddenly fled the village. Rumors amongst the locals was that she had gone mad – tales Janek only learned about as he grew older.
From that point on, Janek and his siblings were raised by their grandparents. They had a modest home, but it was comfortable. The other residents of the town always had a bit of a bad impression of the family. People seemed to consider the grandparents odd. And this reputation carried on to the children as well. The result was that the family tended to be somewhat reclusive.
Growing up, Janek did not have many friends. In fact, other children were often unfriendly and picked on him. Even those kids that started to form a friendship with him would be steered away by their parents, concerned about this strange family. The situation led to Janek being rather close to his siblings. In time, as his brother got older, they perhaps drifted apart a little bit. But he was always spending time with his sisters.
Janek was always athletic, which served him well against anyone that might try to bully him. In fact, he often stood up for his sisters as well. He also tended to be rather proficient no matter what weapon he picked up. His grandparents encouraged him and so would spend a good deal of time practicing with a sword.
--------------------
In actuality, Janek’s grandparents were a part of an evil cult, followers of an evil god. The grandmother was a Warlock in pact with a fiend, while the grandfather was top leader of the group’s fighters. Their aims were generally to spread corruption and fear. Ultimately they had a long-term plan to take control of the kingdom.
His older brother started to get more involved with the group as he got older. And he eventually – in secret – became a priest of the evil god. The grandparents made a few attempts to get the older sister involved, but it was clear to them that she was too fixed to her good ideals, so they left her alone. Janek and his younger sister were considered still too young to bring into the group.
Janek was 13 when the village became embroiled in a regional war. A member of the royalty, a cousin of the king, was trying to take control of the kingdom. The country was not very prosperous, and the usurper accused the present royal family of corruption. He had a decent following and there was a growing sentiment amongst the populace. However, a few key nobles remained loyal to the king and the king held superior military forces.
The usurper was part of the cult. And much of the corruption in the nation was a result of their machinations. They had plans to overcome king’s advantage. A large portion of the usurper’s troops had retreated to an area near the village, and so the place was an ideal staging ground for the king’s forces. The cult summoned several powerful fiends to destroy the king’s army. And destroy they did – the troops, the citizens of the village, and nearly all the buildings of the town.
In the turmoil, Janek was possessed by one of the fiends. He became a part of the mayhem that devasted the town. Amidst the fighting, he was inside the town hall when it came down as it was consumed by fire. He has no real memory of how he got out, but he did. And was mostly unscathed while many others in the building perished.
His brother found him afterwards and for the first time his brother revealed his connection to the cult to Janek. His brother believed that Janek was saved as a blessing from his evil god. Janek was not so sure.
Along with the rest of his family he traveled with the tiny number of other refugees to an encampment outside a larger town. This area was still controlled by the king’s forces. In the coming days, Janek’s older sister started to piece together her grandparents’ involvement in the cult. Despite her loyalty to the people that raised her, she felt she had to report them.
Unaware that her older brother was also involved, she told him first. And from him, Janek learned of her plans. The fiend that possessed him again took control and led him to intercept his older sister and he killed her. Though not really in control, Janek still could see most of what happened.
It turns out however that she had already sent a note to the king’s officials in the encampment. No sooner had she been killed did the guards arrive. There was a bit of a fight but it was over quickly. In the scuffle, Janek’s younger sister was killed, even though she was not involved. Janek was taken into custody for killing his sister and the grandparents were captured as well. His older brother escaped.
The grandparents were tried and executed. Janek was found guilty of killing his sister, however he was however given some mercy due to his age. But he was sentenced to a long term in prison.
Nearly five years later, his older brother managed to arrange to have him snuck out of the prison. Janek was supposed to go to his brother. But not wanting to go back to the cult, he slipped away from his rescuers and went off on his own. He traveled far from his homeland, hoping to get away from all that happened.
During the time in prison, he struggled against the fiend that had possessed him. For now at least he felt like he has control of himself. Though some of the memories are foggy, he is still haunted by the memories of his older sister’s death at his hands. And he feels guilty that his actions led to his younger sister’s death as well. Now he just wants to move past all that has happened and find a new life.
--------------------
The war in his homeland has mostly ended, with the usurper now in control. In coordination with the killing of the king’s forces in his village, the cult had simultaneously assassinated several key nobles. They also managed to kill the king’s wife and injured the king. After that, much of the king’s advantage was gone. Though the new ruler is painted as having ended the corruption of the former kingdom, he is intent on making a nation to serve his evil god.
Hi, I'd love to be part of this! I have a halfling nature domain cleric in mind (so, worshiper of Rontra?) called Elric Greenbody; I started playing him in another game but it ended early due to DM's other comitments.
Premise for Elric in Forest of Celador: Having undergone training in the temple and then made a bright start helping the people of his assigned parish, Elric started to experience nagging doubts about his calling. He loves Rontra and all the beautiful creations in Her domain, but how can evil-tainted elements still exist in nature? He decides that he must do more than simply help a village grow bountiful crops; he must spread the word and influence of 'good' nature into the corners of Celador where darkness reigns.
(I hope I used Celador correctly in the last line, I'd love to learn more about the world. Either type of campaign suits me, personally I prefer a straight-line narrative rather than a massive choice of side missions for PBP)
Stat rolls in case I can get gooduns: Ability scores: 13151191210
Edit: Ah I think I'd use point buy if accepted! As for optional features, would I be OK to take the 'Extra Cleric Spells' and 'Harness Divine Power' please?

Hi I would like to join if it’s possible. I’ve never played before but I have started DMing a group of friends on roll20 during covid. I’m an older guy with a family and career so giving up another evening to play isn’t likely but a PBP would be perfect! I can play throughout the day.
My character idea is a human variant in his 50s. A bard with the courtier background. I wanted him to be a lecturer from a university or school for warfare and battle. He has studied weapons and combat extensively and has been allowed to speak to military cadets and noble households and instruct them on weaponry and training. He is a gifted lecturer whose words and instructions command the attention of all, dazzling them with profound insight and wisdom. Rather than using musical instruments as his focus and magic he has a gift for teaching and mesmerizes classrooms with his lectures and words. (I was hoping he could use a large textbook or some other teaching device rather than an instrument as a focus)
He knows the form and the skills of weapons and combat but has never actually been in a fight as he suffered from a childhood illness which left him physically weaker than others. So he has studied and knows how combat should be but has no practical experience in battle. As he his approaching retirement, he is suddenly realizing that he has spent his whole life studying and teaching something that he has never experienced himself. He has decided to take a sabbatical and explore the world and test his knowledge and mettle.

Ugh. I’ll have to do a point buy or standard array.
I have other ideas for a more complete backstory. Still working on a name but that’s the basic outline of the character.
As for the type of game, I’d like a little bit of everything since I have never played as a player before. I plan to go for an eloquence bard so chances for social interaction would be good for me.
edit: there’s so many posts here but it looks like there’s already a bard. I can be flexible and come up with any class if needed. I just really want to play.

Okay I'm changing things up.
1. I've decided to go with a exploration heavy hexcrawl-style wilderness campaign. Entitiled "Sic Transit Ozymandium", it is the exploration of the Desolation, a desert formed during a magical cataclysm many centuries ago, destroying the empire of Ozymandium, now almost faded to myth.
2. I'm going to ask anyone who wants to use rolled stats to reroll in the following manner. Roll 4d6, reroll ones on the first roll, drop the lowest die. do this 7 times, take the top six scores. Please do this in thread or PM to me if necessary. Ability scores: 14121310141615
3. Please think about why your character is planning on roaming the desert.
4. I am going to play with actually checking rations and water and ammunition. Be warned.

Why my character is planning on roaming the desert. I think Janek could definitely be drawn to the desert as an isolated place, perfect to get away from others. Also, from the few myths he's heard about Ozymandium, perhaps there is something hidden out there that would help him ensure he's free of the possessions that haunted his past. (Or did the idea come from something else?)
Is the idea that the group was somehow assembled by someone to venture into the desert? Or that somehow we meet in the desert?

Ollabar Has spent many years exploring all different locations, both above and below ground. From great continent spanning forests, to towering snow capped mountains, and the deep dark tunnels of forgotten dwarven kings. When a talkative peddler mentions the desert know as the Desolation and the lost empire of Ozymandium, Ollabar feels the wanderlust stir in his chest and he knows he must find this desert and explore its mysteries.
Nilvén went through martial training which is both physical and metaphysical in nature. It had stemmed from her belief that by practicing martial arts she would be successful to unlock a higher state of consciousness. An old scroll of paper made of otherworldly material had been considered as a proof of her belief which had gained a bold reality through her nightmares and visions regarding strange creatures.
She's often seen chanting gibberish words dictated from the scroll while roosting in solitude. If someone had decided to ask about the content of the scroll, she would remain silent or try to deny it's existence. She's indeed amused at the power of god Urian, and believes that the desert will offer something significant or a lost trinket of him that might help her to acquire further knowledge about her dreams.
Okay, I'm still working out the details but I'm gonna have the initial mission be a for hire mission to look for and explore a tomb in a specific area. It'll be some wilderness followed by a dungeon.
