Everyone will have a long rest over night yes.
Cool. Didn’t really think another battle with 4 HP and no spell slots would go well..
Merai smiles as the sun starts to emerge in the morning. She has mastered some more spells and finished recording them in her book. Furthermore, she realizes that she has unlocked some arcane secrets- an insight into the nature of reality itself..
Pendergast awakes as daylight rolls through the mouth of the cave, he stands from his bedroll and dons his scale mail. He gathers up his things neatly and sits back down as he retrieves a small pouch of dried berries and jerky from his bag and begins to eat. When he's done eating he grabs his axe and begins polishing the blade against a small leather strip fixed to his pack, then proceeds to do the same with his javelin and all of his arrowheads. He then gathers the bizarre apparatus he carries with him and starts fiddling with the several nozzles fixed to the stomach of the instrument. As he does so, he turns to the others, "I don't suppose you would enjoy a morning song before we venture forward?"
Merai, having finished her morning prayers, says “Thank you- that would be lovely.” She gives him a warm smile. “ I think we are just going to be waiting here near the gates for our guests, so we have time”
Millet sings from his scriptures for nearly an hour. The familiar sensation of divine energy originating from Oghma as he increased in his devotion and strength to his clerical vows.
Offering additional healing where necessary (OOC if anyone needs healing I will perform that before long rest and again after if needed) Little Iron tends to his traveling companions.
Upon the arrival of the new comer Little Iron allows Meria's jubilance to take the lead. The dirty man was off putting, not just the nature of being dirty but that it was clear that the man made no effort at basic hygiene. He could smell him from across the chamber. Taking out his pipe and packing the bowl with a fragrant combination he lit it with a small ember allowing the smoke to wreath his head. That would help with masking the odor.

(OOC Cool! One nice thing about 5e is healing on a full rest is pretty effective at getting everyone up to full, and a short rest also can give partial healing and some recovery of powers.).
Once breakfast is served, Pox says to Pendergast, again in his quick, moderately high pitched voice, “Merai wouldn’t want me keeping everyone awake last night with my story, but I’m a forest gnome. We’re around, in the woods in many places, you might not see us much! I came to the library to learn magic to help with my…ummm… other skills. I was borrowing a book from a section of the library they had put a big cage around, with warning signs, traps and locks —to keep other people out, when Merai came across me. She told some people she needed my help, and Ive been her best helper ever since! (You might get the impression there’s another version of that story)
“I’d like to see what we can find in this place- want to help? Maybe there’s something hidden here- I betcha the builders of those statues knew about this secret cave.” He searches the cave thoroughly with help from Merai or others (advantage on investigation check)
Merai tells the group now they just need to wait- hopefully Cadderly will return with Danica soon, and the entourage they are waiting for should come in a few days at most.
to Pendergast she says “we would welcome your continued company- we could clearly use another strong arm if those bandits return. If you help us well, The library will doubtless pay for your services, and if they do not, you may have half of Pox and My share”. (here Pox looks up in horror and disappointment but says nothing)
”it is supposed to be a quick mission to escort the guests from the gate here to the library. We didn’t expect an ambush- inside library grounds no less! So we don’t know what exactly to expect.”
She keeps the alarm refreshed on the area around the gate to ensure no surprises, and her little owl who she calls “Quill” frequently makes flights and rests on top of one of the statues to watch for anyone approaching . (It is an elf owl- about the size of a sparrow)
You have a peaceful night in the cave without incident. The morning sun cast a myriad of dancing rainbows across the cave walls as it filters through the falls.
Pox - With your investigation Roll of 21 - you find that a small stone embedded in the wall catches the light in a certain way. It looks like the seam to a lid - upon a closer look you are certain it is a well disguised chest. The Holy symbols of Ogmha and Deneir are etched into the lid, nearly invisible due to wear and age.

Pox and Merai work together to discern what they can about the strange stone chest anchored into the wall of the cave. Merai - you detect that there is magic in and around the small chest and that there is an abjuration effect on the lid.
Merai and Pox combine their skills to determine that the box is magically trapped, however, you have a certain feeling that Little Iron or Merai (clergy of the Librarie's orders) could open the lid without triggering the trap.
I assume that Merai opens the chest once realizing this.
Inside are three small scroll tubes - the symbol of Deneir and Oghma etched on each. The containers looks to be at least a century old - the ravishes of time clear on them. 3 Days will pass uneventfully while you are camped out in the cave.
OOC- Everyone let me know when we are ready to move the story forward after the 3 days of camping. I want everyone to be able to catchup, Post and role-play a bit before the story progresses to the next chapter. So feel free to explain how your character will use this down time.
Merai's alarm spell is triggered a handful of times by simple passerbys or woodland creatures. Her owl notifies her of the comings and goings from its perch on the statue head. At one point a brown bear and her cubs pass the mouth of the cave, but continue their way upstream in search of fish.
The area around your camp is dense and moist - the Spring melt contributing to new streams crisscrossing the paths and game trails.
Ash you find the Tome that Cadderally had brought about Dragons had been left behind in his hasted departure. The writings appear to be in different dialects of Draconic that you do not yet understand. A piece of parchment is within the pages with Cadderally's inked scribbles in attempt to decipher the writings.
OOC: Wow a lot has happened. I need time to catch up on it all so going to wait until I can sit at my computer and read through it all. Was trying to quick post but there’s a lot to respond to while at work.
Pox spends the time practicing maneuvers, trying to get faster, sometimes using a sparring partner and sometimes on his own. He also attempts to learn some arcane magic from Merai, but his attempts don’t seem to be progressing much. Merai is studying an elvish book she borrowed from the library (on the nature of fate and theory of divination magic.) She keeps recasting alarm regularly and ensuring the owl is patrolling.
Pendergast is excited to join in your journey, in hopes that there will be new animals and beasts to encounter and hunt. He spends his downtime making snares and tending to his weapons, occasionally taking out his bagpipe to play traditional songs from his clan. He would also take some time during the three days to hunt some small game to keep everyone fed and doing his best to earn the favor of his new allies. He doesn't seem to take notice of any apprehension caused by his squalid demeanor.
"Something tells me that this mission you have been tasked with will take longer than expected", Pendergast says to Merai, "But that being said, when are we due on the road? And what is the destination?"
Ash had been holding her two hand axes at the ready upon Pendergast's entrance, and the tall Dragonborne went as far as to snarl at him. She'd had enough of new people lately, and didn't think their party needed any more mouths to feed. Upon seeing the offered catch, she lowered her handaxes and held a more neutral posture. He'd not come empty handed. In her culture a gift of food was to never be turned down, and so she took a step back and allowed him entry.
Ash was very tall, with clawed bare feet and beautiful red scales that reflected in the light of the camp fire. Upon her head was an iron crown, with valueless pretty stones imbedded into the metal. Her eyes were reptilians and yellow in color, and her arms were covered in black tattoos. She wore no armor, and only the simplest of garments, revealing a strong frame. Leather straps were used to hold many weapons, her two hand axes being complimented by a greatsword slung across her back, and a greataxe resting on the cave wall near her. Her mouth was a sea of razor teeth and her voice a surprisingly pleasant, velvety contralto. Pendergrast heard her speak for the first time when directly asked who she was.
"You can call me Ash, but as I told the others my name is my own," she replied. She was cautious of the hunter, but Merai and Pox seemed to like him, and so that was good enough for her, at least for now. She kept quiet most of the night, watching the hunter for signs of betrayal and sleeping near Pox, as if to protect him should anyone try to harm him.
When the morning came, Ash helped Pox spar, eager to train the gnome to defend himself, and would've assisted in the day's hunt, a survivalist herself. Strangely, she could be heard growling when distracted, and she looked to her rump with confusion at multiple times throughout the day. When the secret library stash was found, Ash chuckled for once, and said to Merai, "told you there was a chance the library knew of this place," proud her instincts had not been dull.
The Dragonborne was very quiet, and after finding the book that Cadderly left began to study it in earnest, trying to make out the symbols using Cadderally's scribbles. She sounded out a lot of guttural sounds, mixed with more beautiful and delicate syllables. It was a strange but interesting tongue. She wouldn't dare ask for help, but certainly looked like she might need some. After the three days, Ash was restless to move on, and seemed on edge as she nursed sore hands, a sore bum and sore teeth. Something in Ash was changing. To Pendergast's question, she answered unhelpfully, "To pick up important cargo and take it back to the library. We're going to a gate." With that, she would guide the horse out of the cave and onwards to the road. (Ready)
Merai replies to Pendergast “ we are waiting for the arrival of two important guests for the library- the elvish Prince Ebberon of Shimistra and the Druid Newander. They should be here in the next day or two. Our task is simple- make them comfortable from their long journey-and then once they are ready , escort them to the library. “.
Pox seems to be quickly becoming a huge fan of Ash. He tries to impress her and bring her food and is generally extra polite to her, listens to her stories, and he really enjoyed the sparring practice.
Three days after making camp, Merai’s alarm spell is triggered just after nightfall. The alarmed telepathic messages from her familiar, the owl Sparrow, tells her this is not a false alarm. Assuming the owl shares it’s sight, it’s keen eyes show Merai the following:
Goblins! Five of the vile filthy creatures hooting and hollering at the gates of knowledge. A pair of them drop their possessions and start fornicating at the base of the statue of Deneir. The other three relieve themselves in the road and toss their feces at the pair of statues, defacing the Allied Gods with their excrement. Their beady eyes and gnarled features lit with excitement of their vile pleasures. Their twisted laughs cut through the night air.

The most striking of this goblin is the long Sapphire encrusted, silver hilted great sword - clearly of elven design.
