"I can help with the doors. It would not be prudent to try to sneak a look simply to have whatever is on the other side burst out." Loa moved to help Gareth clear the pews and then stood beside him to help hold the door shut if needed.
While the pews are being moved, Rattinger will do a couple of things.
First, he will go back to his torch on the wall and grab it... sticking his head out the exterior door he will look down with the torchlight to see if he can spot the halfling's tracks and note which direction he ran off in - for later. (OOC: Let me know what to roll, if appropriate)
Last, he will return to the interior, hang the torch back on the wall and take up a position with his shortbow covering the barricaded door and wait for the fireworks... muttering a quiet prayer to Pelor that whatever happens, let it be over quick.

"How do you propose we shift this barricade and allow Arthos to look in without causing the barricade to fall apart and release Highhammer? The priest is obviously undead as my divine sense has told us," Longshadow explains unrelenting in gripping their blades. "I understand your caution but diplomacy as I said was the order of the day with the alchemist but...Highhammer isn't going to respond to words," they add.

Investigation 23. For now, Rattinger is just interested if he can see what direction Sebastian was running (deeper into town, off into the woods, down the road, etc.). If necessary they can try to pick up his trail later. I just want to see if there is a trail.

"Longshadow it's a plan, remove the barricade, then use live bodies to keep the door mostly shut, try to see what we can see before swing it all the way open. But its a plan, and they done last long, so being ready to fight would be improtant." Thordilgon answers, pulling on his beard with one hand and adjusting his cannon with the other.
Rattinger agrees with Thordilgon. "Gareth and Loa prepare to hold the door while Arthos readies a spell to web up the interior of that room. If something takes the opportunity to force its way out..." He pauses while he draws down on the doorway with his shortbow, "... then Thordilgon and I shoot it in the face." Without taking on eye off the door, "Not a particularly complex plan, as plans go, but its a plan."

Preparing to brace the door so it only slightly opens, Gareth tries to use his physical prowess and leverage with a pew as a backstop to limit the door’s opening distance.

Rattinger spots a trail as well as light about Sebastian's height weaving its way toward the other side of town disappearing into the ruined tower!
From inside the temple there's a flurry of activity as the party prepares to open the priest quarters door easily moving away pews working together. Gareth has leveraged a Pew as a doorstop as he and Loa attempt to hold it. Loa however is too large to aid Gareth in the space.
"I hope you're right! Pelor protect us," Longshadow replies with a frown as they remain 25ft away from the door between it and the shrouded figures.
Arthos takes a quick look around. He snaps his fingers when he sees what he is looking for. “Ah!”
He moves to the end of one pew and wipes a cobweb from the inside corner. Rubbing the sticky mass between his fingers, he closes his eyes, waves his hand and takes up a chant. Nearing the end, he pauses before speaking the last word and opens one eye to prepare to throw the mass into the room. He nods at Gareth and Loa, signaling that he is ready but careful not to interrupt his focus on his prepared spell.
(OOC: readying an action to cast web into the room as soon as I can see into the room. I would like to place the area of effect entirely inside the room, but in a place where anything leaving the room has to pass through the web, creating a webbed choke point if that makes sense…)
OOC: Gareth can open the door and try to stop it quickly as part of that Athletics check.
OOC: I'm going to say no. The roll was, as you said, to control the door opening. You have other party members to help. My NPCs are never going to take point FYI. Arthos once the door is open you'll need to roll a perception check to see inside. *Spoilers* they'll be no light source in there so you'll be shooting blind, disadvantage.
As all but the pew barricading the priest rooms are removed the party hears a bone chilling moan from the door as a thud rattles it bowing it out slightly echoing in the temple.
"If this is to be our fate let's put this follower of Pelor back on the path of light," Longshadow growls holding his blades aloft gesturing at their companions towards the door.
OOC: Who is quick? Gareth has the stop and Arthos has the trap. Anyone else?
Loa tried for a moment to find a way to help Gareth with the door, but the space was too small. "I guess I will take the front line then,"he says to the others as he steps up to open the door. People clearly knew their roles so there was no point in delaying further."Whatever is in there, once this door is open, we need to move quickly. Gareth, get ready to hold if needed."
Loa took a depth breath, both to calm himself and to help sync everyone's actions. Then, he yanked the door open, about halfway, allowing Arthos to see what is inside. Once the door is open, Loa takes a small step back and faces the entrance with his sword ready to defend.
((Is it still with disadvantage if you are shooting at an area with an AOE spell, not trying to target anything specific?))

As the door creaks open, Arthos squints into the gloom, trying to take a measure of what he can see inside.
"Don't let whatever it is out of the room, I cannot see in yet and I dare not risk friendly fire."
(OOC: DM, I'm not sure how you want to handle the perception Check, is this something that prohibits me from casting into the room completely, or do I need to wait for my eyes to adjust? Can I finish the casting regardless, and if so, what are the risks?)

OOC: apologies my goof "You conjure a mass of thick, sticky webbing at a point of your choice within range. " I thought it said 'a point you can see'.
Loa yanks the door open and shuffles back but before Arthos can get into place a short dwarves corpse rushes the opening moving towards the light it's gnarled hand outstretched reaching towards Loa!!

OOC: RP is key. Please remember to add it to all your posts not just rolls/attacks. Thanks! Trying to get together a decent map. Hang tight. But I imagine the room is difficult terrain nearest the door due to the barricades etc... Loa is right at the door. Longshadow was 25ft away and Gareth was 6ft away at the left holding up the pew as a door stop. Arthos was nearby to duck in. I imagine everyone else kind of fanned out semi-circle outside the door but y'all tell me your distances.

((Isn’t it still Loa’s action? I just needed to know what was happening with the dexterity role before I could role-play anything.))
The dwarf rushes out of the dark room, straight at Loa. Desperately he tends off the dwarf, hoping that physical touch alone would not be enough to get him sick. As he continues to swing around he bellows in rage at the thought of a servant of Pelor laying waste to so many people. (Rage - Wild Surge 8)

Until your rage ends, you are surrounded by multicolored, protective lights; you gain a +1 bonus to AC, and while within 10 feet of you, your allies gain the same bonus.
As his rage grew, Loa thought he saw swirling lights around him. This sensation had happened before but he didn’t understand it fully. Undaunted, he struck out at the dwarf with his rapier. Attack: 11 Damage: 9
