"Governer Nightill you say? OK, I hope he's the kind of man to recognize civil service after the event. We're fine fighters indeed, is there an area you think needs our attention first, Captain...?"says (REAL) Cale, fishing for the guard's name.
As he steps away, Travis turns to look over his shoulder at the others, seemingly having forgotten about the whole ruckus of the identical men. "The name is Travis," he says.
He pauses to hear the guard's conversation with the others and looks to the woman. "I am on a sabbitical from The Ebony Company," he says. "But I'll offer my sword to Greenrest today."
Turning to Kirari, the soldier says, "Thank you, kind cleric. I was grazed by an arrow or bolt while investigating rumors of kobolds and some strange men in long robes hassling merchants on their way to Greenest." Removing her hand from her side, she turns to (the real) Cale and says, "...Swordhand, Beatrice Swordhand. Thank you, and I know the guards can use all the help they can get. Nighthill should be in the keep, and you can let him know I have sent you. Please hurry, and I will linger here to rest a bit before moving on."
Beatrice replies, "We got reports that there was activity from some strange cultists on the road trying to intimidate travelers and take anything of value from them. Then someone reported scattered kobold encampments not too far away from here. They must have been scouts for this raiding party. We have never seen a dragon come with kobold or goblin raiders before, though!"
Inglenook has kept walking towards the town talking to himself. "Here you go Inglenook. Dragons and fires, wagons and pyres. I'm sure there's some people you can help.... Hang on?! I'm walking into a town on fire with a dragon flying around.
Oh, but didn't you forget Mr Cogwell? You have protection now. The mighty Cale said he would look after you. And then there's your other friends, all willing to help the people in town."
He has a moment of realisation and stops in his tracks, and looks behind him, seeing that he is the only one striding towards town. The others speaking to someone else.
Inglenook tries to catch the attention of people who are fleeing town. "Excuse me!!..... Erm hey!......What's going on in there?" He shouts at various individuals fleeing, but no one shouts back or gives away any information.

Kirari will touch the area of the wound lightly, providing a prayer over it. "That should at least help some. We will do what we can to assist. Nighthill you said?"
Travis notes the various exchanges between Beatrice and the others, but says nothing. He tilts his head upon hearing a vaguely familiar voice in the distance. He squints and makes out the gnome in the distance. Figuring it is probably best to keep moving toward town, he strides forward, slinging his shield onto his left arm as he walks and drawing his long sword. If he's going to fight a dragon, he'd better at least be ready...
He catches up to the gnome's position and pauses. "A good deal of conversation back there," he says, indicating the others and the guard with another tilt of his head. "However, I do believe there may be some urgency here, so I am headed into town. You, Ingle...,uh, rook, yes? I do hope I have recalled your name properly, sir." After a moment for the gnome to speak, Travis will resume his march to Greenrest.
Beatrice smiles and thanks Kirari and wishes the group luck.
After a little bit of time to travel the rest of the way down the road, you reach the outskirts of town at dusk, but the sky is illuminated by the fires set in town. There are a few scattered houses on the outskirts of the settlement, and the keep is brightly lit in the center of town. Beyond the first few houses of the settlement, there is a small creek with shrubs growing on the bank.
The road takes you between a few houses before you get into Greenest proper.
Without warning, five humans dash out from between two buildings on your left. A limping man and three young children race across the street into more shadows, and a woman carrying a round shield and a broken spear turns and faces back in the direction from which they came. Eight kobolds stream out of the alley on the family’s heels and fan out around the woman, who looks determined to delay the creatures for as long as possible.

This spell sends creatures into a magical slumber. Roll 5d8; 9 the total is how many hit points of creatures this spell can affect. Creatures within 20 feet of a point you choose within range are affected in ascending order of their current hit points (ignoring unconscious creatures).
Starting with the creature that has the lowest current hit points, each creature affected by this spell falls unconscious until the spell ends, the sleeper takes damage, or someone uses an action to shake or slap the sleeper awake. Subtract each creature’s hit points from the total before moving on to the creature with the next lowest hit points. A creature’s hit points must be equal to or less than the remaining total for that creature to be affected.

Kirari's instincts have usually been good when faced with deceptive situations, she watches Willian's expressions as he enforces his claim. insight 22
She smiles feeling that she's sorted the two out, but will let it play out some before making any accusations.

Kiari gets the sense almost all of what Willian set was truthful and even the bit that wasn’t, was not far from the truth.
