Elyria the Giant Owl watches as Flynt the Giant Owl takes off and flies after Aurelius and the dragon, waiting herself to follow Rahkeshi the Giant owl.
Giant Owl Rahkeshi flies after Flynt, though not quite as fast as he is moving. She keeps low, and tries to keep Aurelius in sight, but isn't really trying to catch up. You can see that you are traveling northward from Lailatha's fortress, over much of the terrain you had previously traversed.
Aurelius continues to follow the dragon. You can see a high mountain in the distance - the same one you had approached before on foot. Surrounded by storm clouds and ice, it would appear this is the dragon's destination. (This is starting to become clear to the rest of the group as well.)
Aurelius' doubts about the wisdom of his "plan" are growing. What had initially begun as a half-baked thought of diverting a dragon from attacking his friends has apparently turned into now facing both a dragon of unknown type and the leader of the hag coven by himself. Not that he isn't up to the challenge, mind you, but he'd hate to deprive his friends of the joy of fighting alongside him, plus if he fights alone, there is no one to witness the mighty deeds of valor and martial prowess he would surely accomplish. Also he is slightly worried about falling back into the thrall of the white-haired witch.
Aur-eagle-us will feign an injury, as if he pulled a muscle or somehow hurt himself, and will descend to the terrain below rather than proceeding to the mountain. Does he see any potential cover there?
Deception 20 (I used Aurelius' stats for that roll, let me know if I should use Eagle stats instead)
As you get farther and farther into more mountainous area, there is less and less cover. But it isn't so high that there aren't trees. Eagle Aurelius can choose to time his faked injured descent to coincide with a convenient stand of trees to try to take cover in.
It takes the dragon a moment to realize that his following traveler has fallen off. You have a bit of a lead heading into the trees before him, as it seems he is turning to follow. It appears he believes you're injured.
Flynt, Elyria, and Rahkeshi are flying lower to the ground, so they make up a little of the distance as Aurelius falls. You cannot reach the trees before the dragon will. But there are other patches of trees that you could try flying through to conceal your approach. You would definitely lose sight of Aurelius doing that, but you probably will anyhow as he flies into the trees.
Aurelius will land on the ground and hop, dragging a wing, into any cover he can find, preferably an area of tightly-packed trees that might limit the dragon's maneuverability.
(Aurelius needs a Stealth check as you try to get into cover.)
(You are all fairly similar looking owls. There are differences, but it would probably take others quite a bit of effort to really pick them out. At a glance, you could be confused for each other. You don't think dragons would have any particularly strong ability to distinguish between giant owls! Strangely, you all seem well aware of who is who though.)
The group of Elyria, Flynt, and Rahkeshi lose sight of Aurelius (probably - unless he gets a really really bad Stealth roll!) Rahkeshi too dips down into the cover of the nearest group of trees, continuing to fly on to close the distance to where Aurelius went down. (Is Flynt landing on the ground and stopping movement? Rakheshi continues, but would probably notice he stopped in a moment.)
(Flynt is trying to get close to Aurelius but with out an exact picture of the terrain I didn't know how close I could put him. He'll perch in a tree close to Aurelius to assess the situation.)
(Aurelius, you are correct for Druid's wildshape. The spell is not exactly the same wording, but to make it simpler I'd just say this is a mass wildshape. So you are correct.)
The group is still more than 500 ft. from where Aurelius entered the forerst when the dragon would arrive. You cannot really see Aurelius but have a good idea of the direction he had gone.
Aurelius for the moment feels like he has hidden himself. He can hear the dragon following but cannot see him yet. He is able to find an area where the trees grow closer and there are many branches. "Where have you gone strange eagle? Were you hurt?" you can hear the dragon calling out.
(Presuming the group keeps moving through the cover of forest to get closer to Aurelius. Feel free to correct me if you just wanted to stop.)
The group of Flynt, Elyria, and Rahkeshi continue to make their way through the forest, weaving between trunks and branches. You can tell you are closing in as you can hear the dragon calling out to the 'strange eagle'. Now and then you catch glimpses of the blue-colored scales through the brush and leaves. You are not sure where Aurelius is at though.
Aurelius, the area where you are is clearly thick with branches, vines, and other plant life. It would clearly be difficult for the dragon to maneuver. You are not positive you are completely hidden if you just stopped here. (You may make another Stealth check to try though.)
Flynt toys off at top speed after Arelious.
