A question was asked of me so I'm going to propose it to the group. Pending everybody is in agreement then we will take the next step. Other wise we will continue with what we are doing now.
First off does everybody have discord? If so then would you like to move the game over to a discord server? Then several other channels in the server can be utilized. As well as DnD Beyond.
(Sorry was offline for a bit yesterday afternoon and evening... Just read up on the thread, so will post here...)
Still unsure why he was here, Davis watched the others enter the tent. He stood rooted to the spot a bit longer, then walked in, in time to hear Everett Blackheart speaking. He stood near the tent entrance, just inside of it, listening.
"I too would like to know what exactly happened to your first team." Davis says in a soft, but carrying voice. His gray eyes are calm and even as he looks around at the few still here, aftre so many just left. Then he glances back to their host. "Also, what sort of group were those you sent previously? If an experienced group, with solid members, then what do you expect to go differently this time around?"

I am good with staying here or moving to discord, either works.
We could create an OOC chat group message thread here on DnD beyond, or have the chat channel on Discord. I’m ok with either, but it might be nice to keep the chat portion out of our IC thread.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
He studied the crate at a distance and as minutely as he could. The vials had each a blue liquid with the hint of a sweet smell surrounding them - a familiar sight to someone who aided in the brewing of so many potions. Those were healing potions, of the most basic sort. And I just though about them, the hexblood said to himself smiling at the coincidence.
But a moment later he decided to take place close to the smiling dwarf and the elven men that he saw at the entrance. They seemed quite approachable, both of them, and that is all Velan could ask in that moment.
“Pardon me,”he starts talking to the duo. “I fear I have been too distracted with the crate on the left. Have I missed something?”
Before any of them could answer a finely dressed man makes his entrance, taking little time to address his potential new employees. He barely finished talking when most of the presents started to leave their seats and the tent.
“I do share the interest that our firbolg and our warrior friends have in the fate of our predecessors. Information about the skills and what is causing these mutations initially attributed to Chardalyn would be certainly useful.” Said the wizard, still well seated in his chair. “But my first questions are: what does this mission of utmost importance entail exactly? What supplies will you provide and how much will pay for our services?”
@DM, I'm fine with either the game going to Discord or staying here, but I do think DDB offers more advantages. While Discord give us a natural way to discuss the game OOC this is something that we can easily accomplish by having an OOC chat through PM. By comparison DDB allows the inclusion of "descriptive links" (like Fire Bolt) for actions, spells, conditions, items, monsters and senses and a easier track of IC posts.

Same. I know the Avrae bot exists, but I'm not sure how many of those functions it covers. I think just adding a group private message thread here would work fine, but I can work with either one.

Avrae can do that. You can do separate channels for ooc.
But I actually wanted to come to the forums because I'm looking for steady pace. With discord it can be a bit more bursting with whoever happens to be online. It's a different experience for sure.
Mr. Blackheart's eyes swivel around the room as he focuses on each individual asking their question(s). His head lowers as he looks down towards the top of the podium. Then raises as he takes a breath.
"Have any of you ever had a family member or close friend or even a pet that you cared for more then anything? If so Then what would you do to save them? Anything and everything you could right? Well, this is why I am doing this. This is why I'm recruiting individuals such as yourself to take on such missions. Since I wasn't blessed in the ways of combat this is why you are here. You will be hired for the job I couldn't do."
He pauses for a moment looking around the room at every individual. The tent around you starts to wave a bit as you can only assume another strong gust of wind must of hit it causing it to wave like that.
"I would like to think each and everyone of you has a kind sole and a understanding heart. And would generally want to help do what you could for your fellow neighbor in their time of need. But the world especially down here in the North requires some form of monetary payment. And I'm here due to my gift of business from my Goddess to supply that."
He scans the room once more looking at every individual awaiting a response.
"Now as far as the group that was sent previous to you, I took what I could get at the time. Mercenaries and thugs that didn't care nor have the passion for the job and was only there for the money. So accordingly the job consumed them all. And left me back at square one. With that being said I'm not going to make the mistake I had with the previous team. And I'm going to have each and every one of sign these wavers. The wavers indicate I'm going to pay you for each and every job that get's completed. Not a partial job or a half job but a fully completed job."
He eyes turn slightly thinking of what took place before as he closes his eyes for a second to refocus. The tabaxi woman moves over to the keg and fills up a cup then moves toward Mr. Blackheart.
"This is the North and the North requires special clothing. I will provide everybody with winter cloths to fight off even the coldest of the days. A complementary trinket to indicate to anybody you come across that your working for me. Majority of the people in the Far North know of me and have me in high regards."
He clears his throat as the Tabaxi lady hands him the cup. He smiles warmly towards her accepting the cup as he takes a big gulp. She nods as she moves back to the other table full of stuff.
"Now for the payment. This first job Is to take that crate full of potions from here to the Town of Kleine. At Kleine find the inn. And deliver the the potions to Mrs. Goodwinn. Mrs. Goodwinn Or Granny Goodwinn as I came to know her as will pay you for delivering her the items she requested of me. At that time she will take over my responsibilities and assign you jobs in my stead. She will be my eye's and ears as I have other duties to take of over here."
A third stronger wind hits the tent once more and starts to wave the sides of the tent on a more constant basis. Mr. Blackheart looks around the tent as it starts to wave.
"Maybe it be a good time to put on those winter cloths hu?"
As he chuckles as you see one of his servants from the back come forward with a stack of papers giving it to the tabaxi lady
"Now any questions? If not then please come sign the waivers and let's get this started."
Her questions answered, Spix steps forward to read and sign the waiver. “I am called Spix. I am pleased to be of service in a good cause, and thank you for ensuring we are well equipped” she says to their host.
Blackheart’s rhetorical question was enough to bring him many of the memories he so desperately tried to suppress for so many years. Bitterness, rage, sadness and myriad more emotions swirl into his thoughts. To the keener eye his discomfort was noticeable, if brief.
So you just were exploited, huh? Velan thought listening as Everett told of his previous employees. It seemed plausible enough for a desperate man to pay the wrong group for help. The task was rather strange, though. To deliver potions? That seemed too simple. And to a woman called granny? That didn’t sit well for him. Sure, Goodwinn could just be an old lady doing business with a merchant, but he would never be comfortable with the mention of a granny or aunt. Never again.
“How did the job consumed our predecessors, exactly?” He asked reaching for his quill and ink. With both in hand he approached the tabaxi lady, expecting the papers to contain further specification on how much Blackheart is intent on paying them. The need for coin was his reason for being there, after all. Those dammed material components, he thought. “Hope there is no problem if I take a read before signing. I won’t be delaying anyone.” He concluded showing his own writing tools.
@Gorgogi
Din't know Avrae could do that much. My discord playing experience is rather limited.
@DM
Does the waivers tell how much Blacheart is willing to pay for the delivery or Velan find any kind of irregularity/abusive clause on it? Would Velan have heard about about the city of Kleine in his history studies?
Spells and components. I'm glad that you brought it up. As I have experimented with various ways to handle this. I think or at least for my games that unless a component(s) have a monetary value is when you will need to worry about casting it. Example: take the spell Revivify. It requires diamonds worth 300 gp. which the spell consumes. That is when I would require the spell caster to have it. Other wise I assume your focus or component pouch will have the necessary requirements.
And as far as leveling is concerned I do it by missions. For example: Since you all are level one. Then you need to complete only one mission to move to level two. Then complete two missions to go to level three. It changes slightly after 5th level but I'll explain once we get there. Now mind you this works very well on table top. But since this is play by post I may need to adjust slightly. But it should still work the same I think.
As other things arise I will address them accordingly.
In the back, sitting in his chair, Zin pulls out his viol and starts to sing a song of inspiration for the group as volunteers are mulling this over, moving forward and signing. He sings the following song :
Risin' up, back in the woods Took our time, took our chances Went the distance Now we're back for the goods Just a band and their will to survive So many times, it happens too fast We trade our brain cells for glory We rush right in to take down those drow Never seeing the eyestalks of terror
It's the eye of the beholder It's the thrill of the fight Risin' up to the challenge Of our rival And the last known survivor Cuts his prey down tonight And his fortune must always be Eye of the beholder Face to face, dwarf all alone Hangin' tough, stayin' angry The thief’s a corpse And the mage turned to stone He's gotta kill with some skill and survive
It's the eye of the beholder It's the thrill of the fight Risin' up to the challenge Of our rival And the last known survivor Cuts his prey down tonight And his fortune must always be Eye of the beholder
Risin' up straight to the top Spilt the guts, got the glory Went the distance Now we're not gonna stop Just a band and their will to survive
It's the eye of the beholder It's the thrill of the fight Risin' up to the challenge Of our rival And the last known survivor Cuts his prey down tonight And his fortune must always be Eye of the beholder
The eye of the beholder
After he finishes, he slings his viol over his back and walks up to the table. “I’d like to join and lend my services to your cause. My name is Zinhorn Kote, where do I sign?” He nods and gives a thumbs up to everyone, trying to inspire courage for their mission.

Thank you for the info, DM. As per my previous questions and post #77 I will try my hand at rolling:
Would Velan have heard about about the city of Kleine in his history studies? (History check) - 16

Considering Kleine is not known for a major event, a historical figure, a major turning point in a war or some sort of lost city your studies would have simply missed it. Plus you have just barely been sent to the northern region yourself so I would have to say no. Despite you rolling very well, You figure you simply over looked it or it's one of those city's that's not really a city but some hole in the wall village/place not mentioned on any map.
On the 3rd page It states For the first mission any recruit will have a option of taking either 50 gold or one regular healing potion at the completion of the mission. Room and board will be supplied by Mrs. GoodWinn at the INN in the town of Kleine.
For the most part you feel he is telling you the truth. But when he joked about wearing your winter wear for what ever reason sticks in your mind.
